  1. Thank you guys. Since the old E6 is in such bad shape I would love to use this opportunity to upgrade to an E7 if possible. I just don’t know much about interchangeability
  2. Thank you. I wonder if it would be much trouble to replace the EM6 with a E7 engine? If it’s not bad can a 1996 E7-454 be converted to a mechanical without breaking the bank?
  3. Got around to pulling my heads. Appears to have small crack fro injector to intake valve on a couple cylinders and number 4 liner is cracked at the top pretty bad. Are these EM6-285’s wet or dry liners? Any help is much appreciated
  4. Thank you guys. The heads I was considering are 4v E6. Going on a E6 that is 2v. I don’t have any E7 parts at all. Just some E6 stuff and old 237 stuff And thank you for the specs Joey I’ll save that.
  5. Engine was originally a 1980 EM6-285 I think 20 bolts? Not positive
  6. Have an E6 2v head I believe has a head gasket leaking compression into the coolant system. I might have access to some 4 valve heads. Could a person put 4 valve heads on my old 2 valve engine? If it’s going to have the heads off anyway I was curious of the differences. Thank you all in advance.
  7. I believe that is correct b was for dynatard as I understand it
  8. John d I didn’t mean to hijack. I will say that part number I shared while ago for the turbo comes up as a replacement for the E6 350
  9. I hope that doesn’t happen to mine but I also doubt mine is putting out over 350 hp. Mine was absolutely a dog before no pun intended. Lol. It was a 285 and the pump was in bad shape according to the pump shop. I also did away with the tip turbine which I don’t know if it was working right either. Anyway My pump has the stock 11 mm barrels. My pump guy said the 350 pump is 12 mm. ?? He set mine at the 320 or 325 hp calibration and gave it 10-15%. He seemed to think it would be good. I’m happy. I read of hot E6 engines running with big cats. Mine will not. But it’s much better than it was. Much. Glenn you are probably familiar with the folks at Thompson diesel. I trust them as I have always had good service from them. I hope mine lives but whenever it does give up it the E6 will probably be retired and I’ll fit an E7 in its place. For now I’m satisfied with it though so hopefully it lives a while. It’s also a low mileage use truck. I’m not in it every day. I do dirt work so it’s an equipment mover and dump trailer for my jobs. Not many miles a year. Josh
  10. Forgot to add, I don’t have the ambac. My pump and injectors are Robert Bosch. Not that it matters but there it is. Lol. josh
  11. I have a EM6-285 that I just recently had the pump shop rebuild and recalibrate the pump and injectors and bought a new turbo. Like fjh and many others have said I wouldn’t try to get too ambitious. Having said that I wish I had done mine a long time ago. As for the turbo I went with a new holset part# 3580251. It was recommended on this site by another member for a E6 350. I think I paid around $1150 through the pump shop I use here. I did also call Antrim and he strongly recommended a turbo used on the E7-427 that he said made great results on the E6. However it was a couple grand and had to have a 5” to 4” exhaust downpipe. And some modifications to the air to air plumbing because that turbo outlet comes out at a angle as opposed to the straight up on the E6. I went with the holset and I’m happy. Of course fueling plays a part in boost too. But I was seeing 22-23 lbs of boost before and now I see about 28 loaded in a pull about 1600 rpm. Had some good advice from good folks here. Hoping to pass it on. good luck josh
  12. My understanding is that the dynatard equipped engine actually has a different camshaft. I do not know if it will interchange without a cam change but I’ll bet someone will be along that will be able to tell you for sure
  13. Any leads on a complete or mostly complete used set up? thank you. Josh
  14. Do you happen to know what is considered earlier or late years? Like possibly what year the break is? I’d like to find some jakes for mine and it’s a 2 valve and I am thinking the engine is a 1980. Was originally a EM6-285
  15. I never served. Both of my grandpas were in Europe for the duration of WW2. my dads dad was a mechanic and drove a tow truck over there. My truck and equipment interests I’m sure came from him. My moms dad had five major battle stars. Started in North Africa where he was pretty seriously injured. Later He landed at Omaha beach on d day. Was in the battle of the bulge. Crossed the Siegfried line and the Rhine River and was in Germany when they surrendered. I am proud of them. And very appreciative to all who paid for our freedom. This is a great bunch of people and I knew you would appreciate it too. Josh
  16. So just an update in case anyone is interested. And thanks again for the members for info and help. Moved a D5 Friday and a PC-200 yesterday and after the pump, injectors and turbo upgrade and going from tip turbine setup to cac, the results are pretty awesome. Truck pulls really good. So much better. And no high egts. Coolant temp stayed 175-180 and it was sun and mid upper 90’s. im very pleased. Should have done it years ago. josh.
  17. I don’t know if this is the right place to post this but Aug 7 is Purple Heart day. Just want to say a special thank you to those who were were injured in the service of America. And a thank you to all of our service men and women. Hats off
