  1. Waiting to see this one, very interesting. Personally I think the Ford V-10 would be a good gas option too.
  2. I really hope the Marines have better luck getting parts from CNH than I do for Ag equipment
  3. Ok, so this is LNG without the super high pressures of the CNG tank systems on some US trucks with the huge refueling times to compress CNG into the tanks? Just curious, Got a friend that runs garbage trucks in Portland Oregon on CNG and they have had to install 2 compressor stations to fill 10 trucks overnight.
  4. I bought a '94 Dodge Dually with the 12V Cummins and the sucky 48RE trans from a guy that replaced it with an '09 with the 6.7L Cummins and the Aisin 6speed. He wasn't impressed with the fuel mileage (13) and found out that huge horsepower could only be used for short periods before things got hot. He wanted to buy my '94 back and make a deal where I bought his newer truck... take over payments. He was hauling cars on a 53' wedge trailer.
  5. I really hope that turns out better than the Cat/Navistar Joint venture. I know of one owner that has 3 "Cats" and is less than enthralled with the value he has now. Lucky for him the nearest Navistar dealer does their best to keep them running. Cat just gives him a funny look when he says "Truck". "Watchu talkin about Willis" seems to be their reply.
  6. Anybody notice that red car in the pic looks like a crossbreed Mustang/Fairlane ? Kind of cool looking.
  7. I do see these trucks being very popular as service trucks for the equipment dealers, locally the Ford 550 and Dodge 5500 are the kings, 4x4 and a lower profile seem to be what they are after. There are a few of the older 5500 Chevys here but most of the Mechanics that drove them didn't care much for them, way too tall as a 4x4.
  8. In my opinion, the General was a nice truck to drive... til the interior started to fall apart. They did ride a bit harsh too with the short front springs. The one I got to drive for awhile was already falling apart, maybe if it had been maintained better things would have been different. It does remind me of something my dad said about trucks "If they build cars or combines... I don't want their trucks".
  9. In the early 80's I hauled grain in eastern Washington with a GMC 9500, used to run with a guy that had a 92 powered Superliner with 5" pipes and no muffler... That thing sounded so nice leaving the elevator yards. He was a progressive shifter and never ran it to the governor unless he needed to make a run at a grade. ran with another guy with a KT powered Freightliner Powerliner that made nice music too. Funny thing was, when I got to the river elevators they were both sitting in line ahead of my old 8v-71.
  10. 53 series jakes shouldn't be too hard to find from truck recycling out fits, He's going to need one Master (with solenoid) and 3 slave units. Finding the rocker cover extension will be the hardest part. I'm looking for a set myself, a friend is dropping a 4-53 into a '96 F-450 as a fun project using a Clark 5 speed and a small under/direct/overdrive auxiliary trans. And yes I have some experience with 6-110s. haven't seen one in more than a few years.
  11. I think if Ford thought they still had any US heavy truck market share, they would still own the Louisville plant that they pawned off to Daimler for the short lived Sterling experiment. For that matter GM could probably beat Ford on a heavy truck and don't see much of that happening either.
  12. The black one? I recall a discussion about that one.
  13. I have heard of a few Superliners here in the states with the 12V71 engine. Not sure if they were offered from the factory or installed later. Plenty of room to do what you want under those hoods.
  14. Much better looking than the sorry things Peterbilt and Kenworth put their names on.
  15. I was thinking about pre '76 machines. even back then some of the single engine 24's were turboed. The later "Loadrunners" with the new style sheet metal were turboed. I never got to spend much time with them. I think those 24's still had a 6V71T in the rear. I nearly bought one at a Ritchey bros auction in 2003 just because it was cheap, like $3500 bucks. That was the price of one tire.
  16. Those would be TS-24's, the 32's had a turbo 12V71 in the front and an 8V71 in the rear. I think they were 44 yards heaped. Got to run one for a couple hundred hours against 657 Cats, the Cat guys hated being lapped once or twice an hour. 😃
  17. I remember Newco now, they remanufactured a bunch of TS-14's in the 90's, they may have done some larger ones too. I think I have one of their brochures in my files at the office.
  18. And they baked your feet because the only place for air to escape on the left side was under the floor. I think you mean TS-32? The TS-36 was a one off prototype with a 16V71 in the front.
  19. Euclid? That was the forerunner to Terex before the company was broken up and the Euclid name was sold off. General Motors got to keep the scrapers and dozers under the name Terex.
  20. Wabco and Terex are far from the same... Worked on both breeds . They both had good and bad points.
  21. Oh sure...😀 One of the Cats I don't have much experience with. On the C-15's Cat recommended 30-40K miles on the first reset, 100K after that, if the hydraulic valve actuators didn't break first. It's been my experience that the overhead cam engines got tighter as the wore not looser, I think the Valves and seats wear faster than the rockers and rollers.
  22. Used to work on a lot of 12v71 powered Wabco scrapers and drove a few trucks with them. I would love to have an older truck that would hold one as a toy.
  23. I recall an article in Wheels of time about how frugal UPS was in the early days and would rebuild/repower everything they had. IIRC there was a pic of a step van with a Diamond T center cap on the steering wheel from the 60's but it had been repowered with a ford 300 six. Those 931's were probably in really good shape.
