  1. When I was growing up in Stamford CT, the Hoffman Fuel co. had a whole fleet of those Whites with Tanks on them for home fuel delivery. Theirs had big 6 cylinder flathead gas motors in them.

    Those white flathead gasers were the coolest sounding gas engines I ever heard. They had a really throaty ocilating sound when starting up from a dead stop with a full load. Sounded much better than the Mack gasers. The IH red dimond 450's were a close second. Spector freight out of the midwest had a whole heard of

    White 3000's with Cummins diesels and the radiators in the back. The good old days when trucks sounded like trucks.

  2. Just the facts printed on the Brockway web site, if you look at the Brockway proto-type tractor it looks just like a Superliner! I'm sure Mack did make some changes, but the fact is Mack had no truck on the drawing boards that looked like this one. An with all the R&D that Brockway put into this design? Mack was not going to scrap the idea. So AGAIN this is what the guys who worked at Brockway at that time tell us, the fact is Mack stole the idea from Brockway. An again I'm a Mack guy as well as a Brockway guy, but I agree with the Brockway guys on this one.

    I went to the Brockway web sight and found the seven pictures of the Brockway Superliner. I don't see any resemblance at all to the Mack Superliner except for the CA47 cab. Maybee I am looking at the wrong prototype. I must admit that it seems as though Mack may have pilfered the Superliner name. Then again Mack used the liner term long before Brockway. They used to call the early H models highliners. I think the liner term even preceded freightliner. :rolleyes:

  3. WOW!! what nice stuff!! I hope my RL700L looks as good as those! As much as I like a 762 Brockway V12: I still think the R700's are nicer trucks, I like em even more then the Superliner's. The R model Mack is all Mack where-as the Superliner started as a Brockway. I don't want to go to the mattres's over this POST now guys!!!! caus I own an LOVE both Mac & Brock two of the greatest trucks ever built!!

    Explain how the Superliner started as an idea from Brockway. The picture Iv'e seen of the prototype Brockway looks nothing like the Superliner. Mack already had a long nose conventionals prior to superliner. Aka LT/B-71/73/R-700.

  4. I checked with Don at the Museum, there is not a file specifically on dealers but there is a file that pertains to Mack Factory Branches. I will look through it when I get a chance. If there is a specific branch or area that is of a particular interest, please let me know. Doug

    Question. You said you will look through it when you get a chance. Is the public allowed to look through records at the museum? :rolleyes:

  5. i'm running a 500 pulling 80 to 95 thousand pounds in oh and pa im averaging 5.8 i dont go faster that 60 unless down hill. just wondering if an mh would get better mpg, had an mh v8 years ago all turned up by antrim was young and drove it like i stoled it it got 4.6, so i what im asking is if a rw and a mh were the same witch would get better mpg. thanks

    5.8 seems like great mileage considering the weight and the hills. It would seem that the MH would get less mpg considering the frontal area. :rolleyes:

    Yesterday Volvo and the other remaining four heavy truck manufacturers were served at the Louisville Truck Show by the Justice Department's Antitrust Division. We're still reading through the lengthy court papers, but it appears that the Antitrust Division has ordered that to increase competition all mergers in the heavy truck manufacturing industry since at least 1981 be undone. Thus Volvo will have to give up Mack and White and re-establish them as separate manufacturers.

    As always, Volvo management saw this coming and was well prepared. Much as Apple secretly developed OSX operating systems for both PowerPC and Intel processors, Mack has been allowed to develop their own powertrains in parallel with Volvo's powertrains in preparation in case their was a need to spin off Mack.

    So today Mack Trucks is again unmuzzled. The Mack inline 6 and V-8 engines are again available, fully EPA compliant with new overhead cam cylinder heads. This is a positive development for truck users- the 16 liter Volvo inline 6 was too bulky and difficult to fit into todays tight chassis spaces. And as Mack has known for years and Volvo ignored, 2 liters per cylinder is the ideal size for a diesel engine, and Mack's 12 liter inline 6 and 16 liter V8 are precisely that size. Thanks to continuing development and the new overhead cam heads, the Mack inline 6 will offer up to 600 horsepower and the V8 up to 800 horsepower with more to come as development proceeds.

    Backing up that "best in class by a country mile" power is the new MACK 500 Series Maxitorque transmission, carrying on from the devlopment of the Maxitorque 400 that was suppressed by Volvo. Quite honestly we don't know the torque capacity of this transmission- we broke a locomotive dynamometer testing it. The 500 Maxitorque combines all the best features of the legendary Maxitorques- multiple reverses, splitters, and low holes- with full or partial electronic shifting that you can turn off when you want to "shift for yourself".

    Carrying this new legendary mack powertrain is the new "Maxiframe" chassis. Taking advantage of the full 102 inch width allowed by the STAA, the frame rails are 6 inches farther apart than before and a full 12 inches deep. With this new Maxiframe come a host of benefits- more room to work around components, lower engine mounting for a lower center of gravity, and a wider spring base for less sway around the corners.

    That's just the beginning of the unmuzzled Bulldog's bark- we'll be announcing new models today also... Stay tuned for further details!

  7. This is my thinking why they came out with the medium duty granite. To make it less exspensive for poeple that cant affrord the hd grantie and can buy the md grantie and have the same looks. Thses days its all about the price so they can sell more. Less is more! Does anybody know on here if the mack Grantite sales went down? Also will this sleeper be avialable for the HD grantie? Also a two piece windshield for for the Titan? Why this option and what is the purpose of a two piece windshield for the Titan? Maybe mackpro can shed some light on this post. Thanks.

    It is all part of the new world order plan and our traitorous politicians are in on it and have been for a long time. At the very least they should be put away for life. We have one more chance to stop this movement in 2012. Throw the bums out(democrats/socialists/communists

I always heard S*J was a good outfit to work for,my buddy's been there almost 20 years,started with one of the other south jersey "big 3" all those guys started in the trucking business about the same time, S*J (Sam jones) KMT (Mike williams) M*J Catalano farms (Mike catalano) they all used nothing but Macks at one time.They usually worked their way down from Sam,and ended up at M*J farms. Been trying to get Mike Catalano to join here,he owns the first truck i ever drove,1963 B-61T, been trying to get him to sell it back to me for many,MANY years! he also has a B-75, R-401, F-797,and several other classic Macks....Mark

    Just saw a S&J Mack vision or pinnacle yesterday on I95 in connecticut. :banana:

  10. Yes, I remember it- I wrote the press release. Problem was, the story got out too early and Volvo killed the new B model before it could enter production. From what I remember, a near 7 foot tall Swedish Volvo executive was going to take the B model for a test drive. He was so scrunched up in the cab that his knees were interfering with the steering wheel, and he had to lean so far over to keep from bumping his head into the roof that it looked like he was driving from the right seat. So a stop production order was issued just as production started... If you see an unusually well preserved B model with an E7 engine, there may have been a few of these new Bs built before the stop production order made it to Macungie.

    Of course, the dream of a new B model never died at Allentown. In the past few years a lot has been learned about "explosive expansion" from the MRAP truck project. The original B model cab was rather narrow, having been designed when some states still restricted truck width to 90 inches.

    That's all I can tell you for now.

  11. That's a seperate model called the "BB" for "big B". Just think of a B cab and hood expanded by 10% or so... The new model announcemnt will be on 4/1/11.

    I remember about three years ago on this site there was a post about a new B Model test unit spotted on the interstate. Then there was mention of Volvo taking a B model and putting it in a wind tunnel and low and behold it was the most aerodynamic design ever produced. This entry went on and on about the revival of the B Model. They had me hook line and sinker and I was all pumped up as I read the entry. Towards the end it started to get a little far fetched and at the very end it was noted that it was APRIL FOOLS DAY. Does any body remember this post and where is it on the site. :rolleyes:
