  1. Thanks Rick&Ron-something to consider, the laws of thermodynamics teach us that the heat that is used to spin the turbo-will heat the compressed air& it would sort of like be blowing exhaust heat into the main heat exchanger-probaly would have to upsize radiator-Kevin
  2. thanks Trent,I believe this thing has plenty of room(think it was intended or set up for the optional 4valve engine) how come the 4 valve engines I've been around dont have a pyrometer?-Kevin
  3. Thanks Trent, but I really would like to convert to air to air-however that vin number has given me an idea. All I have to do is open the door on a truck set up like I want it & get the the last 6 digits( Macks are great) nothing wrong with tip turbine power, we have one that does great-but getting hard to find these setups. Thanks again -Kevin
  4. Can someone please give me the part number for a charge air cooler to fit a 86 or so R-model in the 300HP range, thanks-Kevin
  5. Guys I used to work for used Cat equipment almost exclusivley and the 33 series is a fine engine,Bulldog is right on 32 series not so great-Ford used to be blamed for 3208 shortfalls ( made to Ford specs) but I really dont think that was the problem. You will be happy with a good 237(Dogs have big Horsepower)I believe I've only seen one DM 400 and it sounded like it had 2 cycle power.I believe the 237 fully dressed weighs about 2300#-dont know about the 3208 or space considerations, with air compressor ,the 3208 is pretty tall-Kevin
  6. Yes by all means , put a 237 in if possible-the 13 speed may be overkill with the torquey Maxidyne -The Max is heavy duty-while I would consider the 3208 a medium diesel-Kevin
  7. Bravo Sierra! enough is enough-I'm not a big proponent of conspiracy theories, but have noticed the Feds have realized that Joe Average was starting to get too properous-Theres major items now cheaper then in the 70s in puny dollars-and in adjusted inflation money some have went down .Ex-Fed Alan G overheated economy BS! Well now we have to keep the poor man poor-its getting to the point you cant be independent. The Imperial Federal Govt can come cart you off-if caught misbehaving-Taxes are ethically wrong-I'm Libertarian-If you use it pay for it,dont make everyone suffer. The small gain this horrendous regulations will ensue are not worth it ,in construction I cant see any substitute for diesel power. Ol' Henry Ford was a friend of the Farmer-Joe Stalin sure wasn't . Topsoil and Freshwater will run out before Petroleum-Modern Diesels and Autos are clean enough-Diminishing Returns has caught up with the EPA-Kevin
  8. Amen brother( used to bleed for others till I wised up -that one tale brings to mind when a couple of jerks got behind a stout superliner I was riding shotgun in-they had some lip- but they werent hauling near the load, besides didnt hold the AH's up 5 min-Kevin
  9. There used to be places to have it done- if it basically non structural- not to hard;ie-water jacket we had the a block fixed on a super A Farmall between the cylinder liners[the block was structural-the weld held] I believe the block was heated-if you have a small external freeze crack try sealant, know guys that have ran power units for years like that-Kevin
  10. 2. 22.5's are tubeless--but sometimes you can get a good set of 20's someone took off to changeover (probaly best deal- advertise for em)3.local dealers are hands on 4. tubeless are safer( been hit in the head with a ring) always chain or make multi piece rims safe when you work on em, never stand over or near a tire when inflating it& run correct pressure. Never use regrooved tires on steering axle. in Va. 4/32 legal on front-2/32 on rear-good tread makes the truck per form better-Kevin
  11. 13/80 R OR 14/80r-do you really need tube type? tubeless is a upgrade if you have the the rims-Kevin
  12. In Bath county . Va in the Millboro Springs area-havent heard anymore from bowtie bulldog -kevin (send me a link and I'll send you a picture rebuilt 5th wheel good chrome and glass)
  13. Well my brothers put about 5K in our R model camelback last summer counting the springs-sure made VDOT happy and it off tracks a fair amount doesnt seem to hurt anything-its 38ks with no diff lock and it will hang up with 1 wheel in the air-however my exboss had 2 -88' r's with bronze bushings &38's +no diff locks& will pull both axles and these things would shed rubber rather then offtrack and yes they pulled tags and spent most of the time offroad overloaded[ didnt like the 300L's but those things sure had some grunt] one school of thought around here is dont tight turn if you dont have to[but who doesnt run lock to lock?-Kevin
  14. Bet you light the night sky up -Kevin
  15. Keep at it, you will figure it out-these things are tough-just remember these things are designed to pull & last-just use low range in bad situations -dont buck jump her-these are not the fastest trucks in the world but you sure can make money with em.If you mess up dont cram start over-Kevin
  16. Great mileage! ol' dogs just get better-Kevin
  17. Howdy any engine brake is better then none a proper Jake really helps you may have to downshift though-this area has a lot of steep grades and my brake life exceeced 200k on a rd690 back dump with a 2stage Jake mostly shorthaul stop and go-we werent always legal either. Some of the the rest of the guys had problems getting good brake life-a few high speed stops really shortens brake life you can run sensible & have the same load count.Yes retarder restrictions in town are very annoying-but shoot DOT got pay the the salarys someway-Kevin
  18. Anybody wants this cab frame and front axle can have it[just leave the rear axles and tranny] may even throw in the old 237-its a sleeper cab also in pretty fair condition-Kevin (540-996-4165)
  19. thanks L mackattack-we have decided not to mess with the 283 but may add a charge air or tip turbine setup to the 86-if it is a 237-however when we bought the truck the dealer told us it was a 250-if so it must be a thermodyne with less torque then a 237.Thanks for the honest mpg numbers-some are clueless when it comes to mpg and 6+ aint bad Kevin
  20. Thanks Bob-I Believe you are right -but I believe sometimes its a matter of efficiency this engine seems to consume more fuel then the 283 hp tip turbine in the 84,of course this old truck weighs 25000 empty.Would really like to reduce the tare weight by about aton or so.If the fuel hasnt been messed with all these Maxidynes and econdynes seem to be pretty close on fuel consumption-provided they are doing the same thing. It seems that 6 mpg isnt hard to achieve-Kevin
  21. Did Mack make a 2 valve 250hp engine in 86? the engine was remaned and had the original engine spec plate removed-did these thing s have non aftercooled turbos? any hope for this thing?I did notice it wasnt painted gold or turquoise-Thanks Kevin(our old 237 looked sort of turquoise)
  22. can anyone tell me how to get more go out of a E6-237? thanks, Kevin
