  1. Hello and welcome aboard. I would like to make a suggestion...Get a 237 Maxidyne engine and a 5 speed Maxitorque tranny if your gonna swap out the drive train. That way she is still all Mack and the 237 Maxidyne will out pull that detroit all day. Maybe not out run it just out pull it. That sir is what a Mack likes to do. Good luck.

  2. First things first, I would hate to see anyone lose their job over something such as a stupid e-mail..so I hope the lady in question doesn't...ok got that out of the way. Now concerning OUR culture....We the Customer are MACK sir. We the customer are Volvo. We the Customer can make or break a company. Not the other way around. Not a threat just a fact.

Brand loyalty...let's talk about that. This week alone I have seen brand loyalty demonstrated for the Volvo brand. The company in question is U.S.xpress enterprises out of Chattanooga Tn. I do not work for them so this is only speculation on my part but I noticed on my trip out to Colorado this week that they are buying new Cascadia Freightshakers and International Prostar tractors. Another company that is abandoning Volvo is Swift tranport out of Az. Wonder why?????

Well it all has to do with fuel milage not ride.

Fact number 1 Volvo has the worst resale value in the market....maybe they can sale their used trucks in europe.

Fact number 2 Volvo trucks are ugly.... this fact is more of a percentage lets say roughly 95% of American truckers think this. I know cause they call me Motor Mouth and I talk to a lot of drivers...you know what we call the" End User"

    .

Fact number 3 Volvo is destroying the Mack brand and has nothing to show for it. Definatly not market share.

Fact number 4 Volvo Does not listen to it's customers. If they did they would have had a Titan with a sleeper on it from day one. Peterbilt and Kenworth and every other truck maker who competes in the Heavy haul market do. Duuuuuuuhh.

Fact number 5 Mack is 5 times the truck volvo is. Even with out all the chrome and bells and whistles they routinly bring as much or more than all the "LARGE CARS" on the auction block.

Fact number 6 Volvo shot itself in the foot again by taking the Cummins option away and only using their engines in titan.I have always thought that if Mack had had more engine options they would have had more market share.Volvo does why not Mack.

Fact number 7 America is a nostalgic place and American are a nostalgic kinda people. Just about everyone on this site either owns an old truck or car or tractor or hell maybe even an old Singer sewing machine. So why Titan???? Why not Superliner? Dodge is making a killing off the Charger and chevy the Camero. Once again volvo shot themselves in the foot.

Well enough for now. Got to pay some bills with the money I made with my Mack truck.

  3. Hello eveyone, I have noticed that alot of members are restoring or have restored older trucks on the site. However not many put descriptions along with the photos they post. I'm not gripping after all the goal is to get the truck up and running. However I and alot of the other members would LOVE to know HOW you did it. I myself have never rebuilt a vehical from the ground up or any other way. I think it is cool watching the progress and I would enjoy commentary on the work as it progresses. Now days there is YOUTUBE and Facebook and all kinds of other sites for sharing our passions with the world I think it would be great if we could do that here.

I know if my dad were still alive that I would record every little project we did together so that I could enjoy it for years to come. Any way I hope to read all the stories everyone has to tell.

  4. Well Ihave always been over the road and have always had to have the D.O.T. physical. As a matter of fact I got a notice that my 2 year runs out next month and I had better get it done. The company automatically starts sending these little reminders out about a month before they are due....I'm glad they do because I might forget and Pappa bear may not be to happy with me. :( Doom on you D.O.T.

  5. The only time my 01 Vision has ever run that hot was when I pulled 47000 pounds of copper up an 8% grade just south of Globe Arizona. Later I had to replace the oil cooler and the dealer said there was an upgrade kit I needed to help keep it from running hot. here are some pictures compare to your truck...mine is an E-tech 427 econodyne. Good luck .

P.S. everything without paint is new. The oil cooler and the metal pipe plus the blue silacone hose is the add on parts. my truck does not have a water conditioner filter I have to add conditioner packets to the water.

  6. I feel for rowdy wasn't long ago that I replaced my clutch too. While I was at it I also had the rear main seal replaced, the flywheel resurfaced, new pilot and throw out bearings installed ,as well as the clutch dog and the clutch cable replaced. The bushing where the pin for the cable attaches on the clutch dog was completely wore out and the spring broke when they took it off so I had them replace it all. I would have them check the cluth dog arm and spring. The cable looked fine but years ago while I was helping a buddy put a clutch in a very old "R" model and while adjusting it the cable let go so I had it replaced simply as a precaution. Good luck.

  7. Well I do care what Mack Employees feel concerning my comments...I do not want to make thing worse for them. However I have sent several E-mails to volvo and have Never received a response...and yes I can write a respectful letter ...even to volvo. They do not give a damn what the customer wants or needs unless it concerns a volvo truck. Many options that come standard on volvo over the road tractors you simply can not get on a Mack. They can't stand the competetion even in their own company.

I saw brand new Mack PINNACLE TRACTORS pulling for Tyson foods this week ...I haven't seen that in years. Maybe Tyson realised that the volvos are junk. First volvo talks Tyson into a sweet deal if Tyson buys volvo for their O.T.R. fleet and takes one of Mack's biggest O.T.R. customers...Well now we have come full circle and Tyson has come back To MACK after being conned into buying that junk. Let's all hope volvo hasn't screwed MACK up as bad as their junk.

  8. Guys last year when I was trying to spec out a new truck the dealer couldn't get the truck speced out the way I wanted because the factory wouldn't do it that way. I wanted a 70 inch highrise sleeper with the stack on the side like the ch Rawhide..no go. So I said how about the midroof and side mounted stacks but I need double bunks ....and again they said no (Remember this factory rep was at volvo's New River Va. plant) However I could buy a vulgervo mid roof with double bunks they said. I told them I would rather have a Mack daycab. Hell they tried to get me to change my mind on the total Mack drive line...I said no Mack Drive line no sale. I wanted the Maxitorque 18 speed and the S440 rears with 3.63 ratio. Plus the Mack AL-40 airride...and I suppose unless I got a glider kit I would have had to put that P.O.S. vulgervo motor in it.

Thank god I didn't get it. With the way freight is right now I probably have lost it.

  9. Well fellas I clicked on the first link that Mack 3P put up and I left a comment. I think that the PEOPLE of MACK need to know we the customers of Mack Trucks think that volvo's stupid move has not gone unnoticed and that we do not agree with it. Of coarse the people of Allentown, Pa. also need to know that We the customer don't agree either.

    Matt :SMOKIE-LFT:

P.S. Make that two comments, I had to clarify to some folks with short term memories that Mack Trucks was at the time volvo bought them a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault of France andalso the the president of Mack Trucks is Dennis Slagle former C.E.O. of Volvo's construction equipment line. In other words a volvo drone. NOT A MACK MAN...A VULGERVO DRONE.

  10. I think both guys are right, if you have a good reliable truck I would stick with it. I have talked to alot of Mack mechanics at differant shops when I,m getting my Vision serviced and they all say the same thing. ANY of the E.G.R. Mack engines are junk......that hurts to say but the truth is the truth. 03 and newer have the E.G.R. (exhaust gas resurculation) B.S. installed. Good luck. I am thinking of just having mine rebuilt before she gets to long in the tooth.

  11. Hello everyone been a while since I've been on. I wanted to tell everyone that I have several articles on the Mighty E-9 Mack engine in my galleries that I scanned from old issues of The Bulldog mag.The last E-9's built in Australia were factory 610 hp@ 2050 pft. Awsome..To see the articles just click on my gallery and look for the E-9 gallery..enjoy.

    Matt

the article on the 610 hp E-9 was from the fall 1997 issue and the marine E-9 nad the army E-9 both appeared in the summer 1997 issue of the Bulldog. Sorry it took so long to respond beeen out on the road sometimes working sometimes sitting around waiting for the next load.

I was actually trying to reply to heavyhauler....I'm not sure I know you can only go back to 05 at mack.com..

  12. JerryB I heard that the Horton fan clutch for the later model Macks were p.o.s. be careful. Horton started using china made bearings and the increased heat load on the E.G.R. engines caused alot of problems. I saw for myself one come apart on a peterbilt out in arizona while it was parked at the Petro in Eloy AZ. Went through the guy's radiator. If the behr isn't giving trouble I wouldn't mess with it.

  13. How tall is the truck? I have been getting up to Ct. alot here lately and have friends who work with me who have step deck trailers and I maybe purchasing a new one myself in August. Currently I have a flatbed that stands 5 ft off the ground. AS long as the truck isn't over 10 feet 6 inches one of my buddies could haul it. However it would have to go through my company Cardinal transport out of Coal City IL. because of insurance and of coarse the D.O.T. I would love to help btu will warn you ahead of time Cardinal can be a pain in the butt. Best of luck.

  14. Did any one see the Rawhide? or notice the modified bulldog on the hoods. bulldog body with alien face on it. I want one! I counted 5 diferent macks in the movie, and some one behind me said that optimus prime was a bad ass mack truck (stupid people)

Maybe they are dummies but atleast they Know The Greatest Name In Trucks . Built like a Mack truck means something weeellllll unless your a v##?? executive....... Well morons come in all shapes sizes and pay grades.
