Can a Scania V8 be put in a glider? What tranny would be needed?

Im sure it could be done but wiring would be a nightmare plus cost of the engine probably $40-50k .  I'm sure a fuller or mack 13 or 18 speed would bolt up to it . Probably cost you 180to 200k to build one . The best thing would be for someone that had a good mack superliner,CL or MH that needed a new motor and buy a Scania v8 so the cost would be reasonable to do such a project .

Many customers also used their Macks all year round and they lasted over 30 yrs. One of the problems I experienced was that not only was the replacement part for the 10 yr old truck overpriced, even though it was 'genuine' Mack parts it didn't even last half as long as the original. I once had an embarrassing situation where I bought some parts at a Mack dealer for someone over seas. He emphasized that it had to be Mack original which I did, it even had the Mack logo etc engrained on them. Not long after he questioned if I had really bought the original Mack parts because they were wearing out already. I felt embarrassed because I didn't want him to think I had got him expensive fake parts.

That's normal you install new parts in a old truck they never last as long , that was happening 20 years ago. It's just how it works

  3. If you pause the video on the white truck towards the beginning of the video it looks to be a set forward axle reminiscent of a r model or RW even it has no fairings, square fenders maybe I'm wrong but looks promising . Also another spot in the video shows drawings of a vision next to a rep model so I'm thinking they used the r model for inspiration.

i ran a 05 granite triaxle with the 427 an 8ll trans for two years. great truck, and it would outrun the 05 kenworth T800 with 470HP C13 and 8ll trans.

only issue with the granite was highway gears. it would do 90+ on the road, but was no good offroad.

i would not go any newer than 05 if replacing.

if you repower, you will love the way the truck runs with a 4 valve 350 or 400 with a 8ll trans.

I had always heard the 04 thru 07 granites with the AI motors were under performers power wise but reliable. I never drove one so I was going  on here say.  My friend is looking at buying a 06 that was a 370 but turned up to 427 now.

  5. IF it was me I'd buy a mid to late 90s RD or CL with a e7 350 non computer .if you prefer or 427 -454-460 electronic. If you get into the granites I'd try to find a 02 or 03 without the AI engine. If you go newer I've heard good things about the early mp7 model year 06 and 07 engines with out the dpf, def, hope this helps.the 04 thru 07 granites with the AI engine are ok bUT are known to be underpowered unless you modify them.

I don't see the gigantic problem for a truck to deliver some X-15's to the Mack plant. It was good enough with the CL trucks and would give us the same choice everyone else in the industry has. I asked this question at MATS after being told they were working on a longer hood/cowl. I got the company line about the MP8 being enough. Our CHU does just fine but add another 40 tons.

Ask International/Navistar how the removal of choice worked for them in their 13 litre program.

What's the longer hood /Cowl for ? New model ?

  7. Here in new England you can walk into a freightliner / Western star dealer and see several DD 16 powered tractors and straight trucks on the lot with 600 hp really popular here.  NOW THE DD 13 is available 505hp and 1850 torque in the small freightliner and western star 4700 . So macks heavy hauler mp8 505 is comparable to the smaller western stars . They have nothing to compare to a western star 4900 , or Coronado SD 122or a W900 . It's sad IMO.

The Mack MP8-505M is an 1860 torque engine. The Cummins 605 is a 2050 torque engine. For nearly ALL applications 500hp is more than necessary to move nearly anything with the right gearing and transmission selection. Years ago I used to move nearly everything with an R model Mack with a 300 and a six speed and a 3 axle lowboy. The small number of truck sales per year with the larger MP10 versus the massive costs of engineering and support just do not make sense. Right now the MP8-445 is our best selling engine across the board with the M-Drive or M-Drive HD.

I agree to a point but what mack is saying is if you want a bigger motor go elsewhere because we don't care about you . That's what we did.

I could see me using the mp10 in the future if they'd make it available. Europe is going more liters and more horsepower and we're cutting back. Total BS

That's why we bought a kenworth with a cummins 605 hp . Sick of mack telling us we don't need the power when every other company makes a 600 hp available. Screw mack .

  10. The problem with Mack is they don't offer something for everyone. They tell the customer what they should buy, not the other way around. Paccar offers something for everyone. If you want a modern styled aero truck you can get it from Paccar, if the customer wants a traditional long nosed conventional they will make it. Mack won't make what the customer wants unless the customer wants what Mack currently makes. It wouldn't be hard to make a retro styled R model on a Granite chassis and a stretched rawhide CHU with a retro superliner type hood.
