No pics of the R600 guy said it was in pretty good shape without a fifth wheel well it was rusty and did have a fifth wheel still on it I didn't take any pictures of it though it is black with twin chrome stacks on it. I really didn't spend much time there the place was locked up but the guy told me park on the side of the road and walk in didn't want any hassles with the local law seeing me marching around in there while the place was closed.

Went and checked out a 1970 R600 with a V8 too another hour and a half further away wasn't worth the trip guy wanted 4500 for it but it had a lot of rust turned around and finally got home at 9 PM I started out heading to look at the R700 at 1 PM after working six hours it was a long day.

I figured 8K Im good with that as long as my military deuce sells or it might be a tough sell to get the wife on board.

I have been looking for the right truck to buy today I may have found it a RS700L straight five speed I believe it has a 237 under the hood I pulled a lowboy with one just like it in the early eighties. Its a 73 single frame very minimal rust I started it up and it ran like a champ looks like the original interior is intact looks like it had new door gaskets put in sometime recently has 670 thousand miles on it hauling grain owner was very meticulous with maintaining it whats a good ballpark price to pay for a truck like this? The best part its very close to home the first thing that will go is the spoked front wheels and a set of aluminum beds will take their place doesn't have power steering but my old lowboy tractor didn't either..

Wonder if it was always a single axle too.

I spoke to the owner about it he says he doesn't have a title for it and bought it years ago at an auction which does me no good in Illinois no title no license plates.
-
Not anymore with seemingly unlimited tax dollars and not much oversite they are not afraid to spend big anymore.

Bet that box culvert came from us over at welch brothers.

All that water goes down the roof pillars and after filling up the lower parts of the cab it freezes in the winter and splits the cab open in spots.
-
Being a six wheeler the hoists always leak and make the perfect frame oiler preserving the metal and here in northern Illinois most excavators do not work all winter after the big freeze up saving the truck not running on salted roads the thing that does bother me is the roof rusting out like it has.

Don't have any more information on it right now the owner was not present when the pics were taken and I didn't want my friend to open anything up with out them present they park in the same yard. He took the pics today when he got back in he said they have not moved in years there is two B models sitting there too one has a cummins in it and one is a gasser but they are true basket cases.

Doubleclutchinweasel you misunderstood me your truck is great a bit out of my price line because you have done lots of improvements on it I read the ad you have you have a ready to work truck jump in and go needs nothing to improve it. I may see if the one I have pictured is for sale it needs a new cab its a 73 looks like it needs a bit of fiberglass work Im no stranger to that either but depending on price the cab may be a deal killer its local though and for the price of shipping one from another state it may pay to buy a cab.I will get rid of the box and hoist and just redo the cab and chassis it looked older than a 73 but it has a brown interior either way buy it or not I have begun the search the biggest problem with the local trucks is the rust jacking of the double frame rails.

Im looking for a fixer upper not a basket case I need something with a decent running engine and good trans a ready to work truck is out of my budget I might sell the military truck to fund this project then I could buy a better starter truck. Im not afraid to dive into a project truck either I work at a company with 40 macks and we have a huge shop and the head mechanic is a good friend who looks forward to assisting me with any problem that may arise.

Thanks.

I have been driving mack trucks from my teenage days which by the way is a LONG time ago I have been restoring and customizing military trucks for a while and I restore and drive early to mid seventys chevy trucks. Time to move on to the next level I want to find a decent B model or a 66-71 R model to restore and use in the many parades I do for the veterans. The last military truck I customized which I still own is used to do parades with the vets the older guys who cant march anymore are loaded into the back and ride along waving to appreciative crowds I included a couple pics the truck went from a really beat up fire dept brush truck to the finished shorter version on which I did my first digital camo paint job. I drove a nice 71 RS700L for an excavator years ago pulling a lowboy I would really like to have that tractor now the last two years I have been driving an RB model pulling a dump trailer until this spring I was moved to running a loader loading semis with gravel and other yard chores its nice to finally get out of the nasty traffic problem we have here.

Keith if they want the truck enough to buy it out from underneath me more power to them I like it and want it but don't need it enough to go to the lengths some do to get what they want.
