  1. Oh. I thought this was about the trucks ATHS " own" or wanted to sell.....I left that organization after all the trouble they gave the message fourm participants and political issues.

I have never been able to log onto there forum

  2. It is a common conversion on trucks with a spring suspension.

I am just finishing up one on a ford F800. We searched and found a rear clip with the same axle, better ratio, and where the new bolt holes would miss all of the old bolt holes by inches. We redrilled the old frame and bolted the suspension on. We did replace all the bushings in the process.

What ever you do you will be drilling a lot of 5/8" and or 3/4" holes in the frame. You will need a bucks drill, magnetic drill press, and plenty of drill bits.

If you keep the existing rear axle you will need to add the track arm bracket to the axle.

Have you tried lowering the tire air pressure?

Have you tried removing some leaves from the rear springs? Rust between the leaves causes them to ride a little stiffer.

There is a guy around here who has a flat bed on the back of his tractor made out of a trench plate to add some weight.

My other truck really rides a lot better with 5,000 lbs on the back.

  3. I have a 94 ranger with about 180 on the clock and it is still going strong. It is the perfect size vehicle for what I use it for.

I wish that ford would sell the 4 door ranger in the US.

A few years ago I saw a V8 powered one on the freeway and a week later my commercial dealer called me to ask if we were looking for any vehicles and I told him to find me one, but he could not.

    Sad

  4. Use your tach, speedometer and GPS to determine which axle appears to have the correct ratio. Them look a the other axle to see if there is any evidence that it has been apart or open it up and check.

Probably one was replaced at some point in its life and the case is not stamped correctly.

We always match parts and do not assume that the VIN or tag is correct.

  5. The axle is a Metitor RS23-160 with the driver controlled differential lock. It looks like the previous owner engaged the lock while the truck was still moving. We found metal in the magnets in the bottom of the axle housing and the ends of the locking splines are rounded off.

Is this an issue or is it common with this type of air locker?

  6. How are you planning on mounting it?

The box is almost 2 feet long then you add the length of the drive shaft and work to get it mounted and the shifter working it becomes a project.

I was going to do the same thing but decided to convert my MT643 to a MT653, this added an additional granny gear, and change the rear axle gear ratio to effectively give me a .80 overdrive.

Actually the new gears came with a rear frame clip I bought for the air ride suspension.
