Pack bearing, wheel and cover as original,,  as per manual you will not be sorry..

how old is the truck ?

have there been any wheel problems ?

get the Idea that I have ?

if it works why change it now..

It's a '60. No problems with the wheels, it sat for a number of years and I was getting ready for the show season (Macungie).  As usual I did the job and then checked the manual. It won't be a big deal to go back and do it as described.  I'll have to buy some more grease to fill those large cavities.

  2. When repacking the bearings I noticed the hub area between the inner and outer bearings was full of grease and also the screw on outer cap. It seemed like an excess of grease but the O & M manual says to pack them that way. I don't know if that is because of the quality of grease back then or if that is still the preferred way to do it. What do y'all think?
