  1. Anyone know what color Mack painted their engines back in the day? I have a 1961 B61, but there is no trace of what color the engine use to be when it was built. Now it's just surface rust, dirt and oil.
  2. Any one got a couple of orginal B Model 5/8's wheel lug clamps they can spare? I don't think anyone sells them anymore. When I bought my truck, a couple of front studs were broken off and the clamps were long gone. Picture of one attached.
  3. Thanks for all of the feedback on the tires guys, since this is my first restoration, I'm not ashamed to say I have lots to learn on the old B Models.
  4. My B Model was in just as bad condition, but I'm restoring it. If you can get it loose from that tree and get the engine running, I know someone out there will want it.
  5. When I bought my 1961 B-61, one of the front lug nuts was broken off which means I'm missing the original rim clamp. Anyone got one? The rim clamp is 5/8". Pictures of it included.
  6. Hey all you B model owners, I'm restoring a B-61 and am just starting to look at new front tires for it, and have been told by a couple of tire guys that putting radials on the front with no power steering is not a good idea. One guy even said "you won't feel like you have full control of the truck". I'll be making the conversion from 10.00.22 tube tires to 11R24.5 tubeless and wanted to get some feed back on this from everyone. I won't be hauling loads with this truck, just fixin it up and showing it off! Also, anyone have any suggestions on a good low priced tire? I know they can be expensive.
  7. My B61 stock lower exhaust pipe that runs under the passenger side cab is rusted out. Anyone know who might sell one of these?
  8. Would love to have this truck, but I'm right in the middle of a B-61 rebuild. I hope I can find an F Model a few years down the road.
  9. Thanks for the info guys, I enjoy learning from the best.
  10. For all of you guys who have pulled an old rusty Mack out of the field that has been sitting and rusting for years. What is the best way to remove the rusty lug nuts that haven't been taken off the truck in Years? I can probably get them off, but I figure why not ask someone who has done it before and save myself a little time and grief. Thanks
  11. Hey guys, I'm restoring a 1961 B61 and will eventully need to do some work on the floor boards. I know the center floor boards are removable, but since this is my first restoration, I wasn't sure if the 2 outside floor baords next to the doors are removable or are welded in place.
  12. Any of you old crusty Model B guys know what size the round convex mirrors on the fenders were? 6", 7", 8" ?? I have a 1961 B-61 that had the rusted brackets when I got it, but the mirror heads were gone. Watts B Model store has them, and they look to be around 6", but not sure. I can get them cheaper online else where.
  13. I don't have much information on this truck except that it's a B-67 concave cab wrecker, and it's someplace in Iowa. I believe the owner wants $3000 for it. I've attached a photo. You can contact him at his e-mail of: dentonjulseth4@gmail.com
  14. My 1961 B-61 didn't have a bumper when I bought it, so I found a factory bumper, but I don't have the brackets to attach it to the frame. Looking to buy, or perhaps manufacture if someone can send me a pic of what they look like.
  15. They were missing from the truck I bought, so it looks like I'm going to Watts.
  16. Yeah, I just can't believe how much they charge for stuff.
  17. Looking for both Thermodyne emblems for my B61 if anyone has a pair in good shape. Also looking for 1 B-61 emblem.
  18. Thanks, will keep my eyes open on ebay
  19. Anyone know where I can get some new windshield wiper arms for my B61? I know Watts B Model store sells them, but $175.00 per wiper arm sounds a little steep.
  20. I recently bought a 1961 B-61 single axle, and was unsure of the condition of the starter (24 Volt) when I bought it because the batteries were gone. The previous owner used a tractor to pull start it when he used it. He said the starter worked, which it did when I finally got some batteries and cranked it over. However, the starter sometimes would not engage and made a grinding sound. So I took the starter off and had it rebuilt. Mean while, I got under the truck and rotated the flywheel, and noticed that 2 diffrent spots on the flywheel have 5 or 6 teeth ground down and mushroomed. I filed the teeth the best I could so the starter could engage, and re-installed the starter. Although the starter is working good now, I hate the thought of the flywheel having bad teeth, and was wondering if anyone has ever changed one and how hard it is, or has any sugestions to make me feel better about it.
  21. I'm restoring my first B61 and was wondering if any of you old mack owners know what the quarter sized hole in the middle of the cab roof was used for.
  22. Anyone out there with a B61 know of a place to buy mirror brackets that fit on a B61?
  23. If you don't have a mig welder, get one. I bought a lower priced one from tractor supply and have been grinding the bad metal away on my B61 and welding in new metal patches. Its working good, and saves on body fill. Just have to set the welder on low so you don't burn through the metal. Tractor supply also has small sheets of metal that work perfect for this.
  24. Looking to buy B Model windshield and rear window rubber seals. I know places like Watts B Store sells the seals, but the prices seem a little high, so if some one out there has the seals for a reasonable price or knows of someone who does, please let me know. Thanks!
  25. The vent window handles on my B61 are broken off because they were rusted thru, but I still have the handles. Is there any way to repair these? The vent windows are still good, no need to replace them.
