  1. the crane rental guys we deal with have the air over walking beams front and rear on most of the bigger units.  the operators love them.  all that i have spoken with say they ride great and still have the travel/articulation of rubber block/spring walking beams when the pavement runs out.  they also have retrofit kits for Haulmaxx etc rubber block walking beam equipped trucks.

  2. every truck ive ever driven (yep....all three of them lol) have been set by (but not exclusively) by turning the cruise on, using the foot throttle to attain the revs, and hitting "set"

the volvo feed truck would grab 1400rpm if i was off the clutch and brake and hit "resume" on the stalk.  thats what the visor said was the operating speed of the blower, it was a bulk feed blower truck.  1650 for the transfer unit operation...

  3. Sad news.  My condolences.

its been law in ontario for a few years to slow down/move over for Police/EMS/Fire (red and blue or just red lights) with the lights on, and just recently updated to include Tow trucks/road crews (amber lights)....but people still dont get it...

while i dont do it often, there are times i have to drop machines on the road because i cant get into the site, or need to use the street to switch bins, due to lack of space, and it scares me....not much spooks me, but emerging from between the front of the bin and the back of the truck does it....i always peak out first, but the speed some of these cars means its clear when i look and they come flying out from behind the bin as i step out to go back to the cab.

I learned one day a few years ago that i could jump from the ground to the fender in one move...caught that fucker out the corner of my eye, had i not made it up there, he would have taken my legs...the guy running the kettle for the roofer saw the whole thing, and took off after the car...

Mack "fixed" my truck but I still have only 5 MPG and low power, truck starves for air near 1600 rpm. Starts skipping and missing until I let off the gas and mash it again. 28 psi is the highest boost gets.

Use the hand throttle to wind the motor up to 1200(ish)rpm and soak all the intake hose connections with soap and water mix.  Best bet would be when it's doing a "passive regen" (?), not sure if the MP8 is the same, but my MP7 runs about 5 psi boost when this occurs....

  5. ^^ what he said.  You should be able to see fluid in the housing of the thermometer with the box down.  Both my roll offs have the sight glass with no thermometer...keep it above half when the frames down and the cables all the way out.

also, with some lifting/turning/tilting all at once, the strainer should come out.

    :)

  6. All of the plows (big trucks) in the county have wings, a few have mid-mount scrapers.  They use pick ups for small spots and loaders when the p/u won't fit lol. It's also not uncommon to find a grader plowing a back road.....likely a "make work" deal.  There's a lot of two lane country Rd around here they can plow the lane and most of the shoulder in one pass.  We also have a few tow plows.

Long ago one of my clients had a car with carburator. He had it loosing power when accelerating. After couple of weeks of search he got to the issue. Someone before him fitted the rubber fuel hose to the carb inlet pipe. Making that he cut a piece of rubber from the hose's inner side by sharp end of the inlet. So something like a small flipper was formed. It didn't block the line completely but moved when the fuel stream was increasing and shut down the engine. Who would have thunk thought...

Nah, you had it the first time lol

It is in Kingston, MA., the man who ended up with it was a customer of the previous owner (Rudy Taylor) who passed away a month or so back.  I shared a few stories i remembered about Rudy and we had a laugh.  He was a unique guy for sure, very mechanically inclined.  The current owner said that it wasn't for sale, but he thought I should have it.  I'm giving him what he paid for it, and he seemed happy that I want to get it back on the road.

At the moment I plan on doing an extensive service, fix some of the cab and fender rot.  It's in tough shape, I need to make sure the frame is sound as well.  Long term, from a practicality standpoint I should put a fifth wheel on it and keep it as a long wheelbase tractor with the winch, but it will probably stay as is for this year at least.  I believe the stick with the glitter shift knob is for the winch, so I believe it is a 5 + 4 trans combo.  I'm gonna have to learn quick to get it home!  Any tips for a first time twin stick driver?

Pick a a range and stay there.

    :) subscribed and good luck

  9. I always had an interest in trucks and tractors, but after a ride to Wiarton, Ontario with a friends dad in his Pete 5 axle roll off and 6 axle wiggle wagon, I was hooked....

This is what I want to do...that's why I do it.

What am I missing? Wouldn't 7 forward gearsX3 ranges=21 plus the 3 ranges in reverse for a total of 24 gear changes not 16?  Just curious if it was a typo or for example creeper range couldn't be used with gears 5, 6 and 7?  Good read at any rate.

The article said that it would equal 21, but in practice there are some overlapping of ratios between ranges. Leaving a distinct 13 speed
