  1. Mike,thanks for posting this picture! i grew up/lived in South Jersey,the LoBiondo Bros. trucks were a familiar sight to me,i don't think after these,and the White Road Expeditors,they EVER bought any new trucks!..............................................Mark

    I too, remember the LoBiondo Petes, they must have been to the moon and back! That one still has the old Bridgeton address on the door. They are in Rosenhayn now.

  2. "This is a 1950 C90D. It has a 501 Blue Streak gas and a 5 and a 2. It has a hydraulic lift tag axle. The drive axle is 8' 6" wide so it would have needed a permit every time is went on the road until the width law changed. It was built in Ardmore, PA before White bought Autocar in 1953 and moved the plant to Exton.

    I remember seeing the '50 A-Car at G.L.Sayre IH in the early '90s. Was it still owned by Frame's at that time?

  3. I used to see them in Brick all the time when I was in high school. As I said in a previous post they had those funky stacks that came out towards the front of the cab shield. They were heavy trucks. Probably the heaviest specced GMC's I've ever seen.

    My friend Danny kept them running. I'll ask him for the specs when I see him. Yes, the stack did the funky forward bend. I remember moving some around the yard and recall the 9 speed shift pattern being kind of weird with 3rd gear being on the bottom right. Did I mention that the color was awful.....? :whistling:

  5. I met him at the Diesel Drags a few years back when he had the IH. He and the truck were both a class act. I don't recall his name but he was from Braddock, NJ down near Hammonton. He was dressed in white shirt and tie with pressed trousers and he had a plaque on the side of the truck proclaiming his prestigious award. His son had an equally nice long-wheelbase daycab Pete.

    OK, I remembered the driver's name and did a quick google search. It appears that he and his truck were featured in a paperback book called Custom Semi a few year back. I screen-capped a few shots from the Amazon webpage.

Took a ride with my Dad one saturday morning,when he was looking at new trucks (did'nt have to ask me twice) thought we were headed to Trenton Mack,but all they had in stock were daycab conventionals,we did look around this lot for quite a while! these were taken at Central Jersey Kenworth (now gone) and all brand new,approx. 1976/77.............................Mark

    Mark, was that the dealership on RT130 South right near the RT195 ramp? IIRC, they were only there for a few years then the place turned into a H-D / Buell dealer which is also shut down. I go by there every day to and from work. The place is still vacant BTW.

  7. There use to be Cardel Paving they had a bunch of generals and paystars with bristol donald bodies

    My dad was the plant foreman for the asphalt operations at Cardell in Keasbey. He ran two Barber-Greene batch plants simultaneously during the busy season. I worked there between semesters running a 966 Cat loader feeding the concrete crusher.

    Cardell ran a bunch of short-hood Generals when they first came out as It think the owner was in real tight with the GMC dealer at the time. The trucks were spec'ed heavy with 6V-92s and 12:00-24 rubber on spokes. They were beasts. Some even came with pit fenders which I've never seen before on a General. I must say, they were painted the ugliest shade of light grey. I'm gonna guess they had about 20-25 of the Generals, the newest probably being a 1980 model. The dump bodies were J&J out of Somerset PA. They ran them hard up till they shut down in 94-95. One General that stood out from the rest was their lowboy truck with the 475 HP 8V-92. That one hauled the pavers and the Wirtgen mill to the jobsites with ease. Good times!

    Oh, and they had two Paystars in the same ugly grey. Both with Rockwell top-loader rears.

    My good friend Danny who ran the shop garage may have a pic or two of the Generals. I'll have to pay him a visit soon.

  8. This truck belonged to a guy named JT. He was either from Philly or Jersey. He died of a heart attack about 10 years ago and wanted George to get his truck. I have a picture of it on the trailer heading north. It was claimed that IH did not make sleeper V model's, but here is one. I have seen other pictures since I heard that claim so they obiously did. It just isn't available in the surviving paperwork from the period.

    I heard the same thing about the sleepercab V's.... how it wasn't or couldn't be made, but they are out there.

    I always liked the V models and I found it interesting that IH would change sheetmetal for a truck built around a V8 motor. Really no likeness at all to the then-current R-Series.

    I drove a Fleetstar stakeside with the 549 for a farmer and that thing was a real brute.

    Mark, you are correct. I recall a crap ton of those all over Camden/Pennsauken area. Mostly 9000's though for me. I seem to remember Reisch and Stech from that time period. Funny thing about Stech.....I know Frank personally as he is a BIG Mopar collector. His brother still runs the company and keeps a vintage 9000 w/ a 335 Cummins that comes out every now and then.

  10. This is the first time I've seen this beast. It's an army surplus White 666. It was at a little car show in Roebling NJ this past summer.

    I hope they don't touch it.......just leave it the way it is.
