  1. You would probably end up money, and time ahead , not to run it anymore at all. You can fix it at home a lot cheaper, than on the side of the road. Especially if you have to factor in a tow truck. When splines are worn enough to strip, they will usually let go starting off, or on a rough road when the wheels bounce, spin, and recontact the road. The best course of action would be to take it back to whoever balanced it, and ask them to apply your original bill toward replacing the spline end and yoke. I would argue that they should have caught this before hand.
  2. The most puzzling part of this problem, is that it smooths out at speed. One clue is that it has been apart for balancing, before further disassembly make sure that yoke timing is correct. 90 degrees out looks right at first glance, but if you have any hair left at this point, it will make you pull it out.
  3. All you need now is a handle for that hammer. Did your Mom gift wrap those loads for you? You might make a hand yet. I always like to see a well tarped load. I don't miss having to handle them though. Especially in the winter, when you roll them up wet they are slicker than snot on a door knob when you have to use them. Have you ever noticed, that every winter people have to learn to drive all over again.
  4. Check Albany Craig's List item #978392693. Best Price I've seen on an IR 2135. I think I gave about $240 for mine. They don't weigh much, and with 175 psi it would be dangerous.
  5. An IR Titanium is hard to beat period. The key to performance and longevity is a good air supply. None will work well or last long without a good volume of clean dry air. If the IR seems to be too pricey, check out what Air Cat has to offer. I have one of their 3/4 drive models that I use for tire service. I chose it, because at 1340 ft.lb's I could use it for tires and brakes and other maintenance as well.
  6. Rob, You are a man of wisdom and understanding. LOL
  7. Reinstating your class A is the best plan. By doing so you eliminate any Grey area. A word to the wise, concerning registration, if Colorado wont let you register it as a historical vehicle, at least register it under 54,999. Above that you become liable for Federal Road Use Tax. Like the man said, every state is different. My state, Georgia, has a cut off limit of 14,000 lb. for historical plates.
  8. This is spot on. The only thing he left out is that our founding Fathers did not give us a Democracy, or Mob Rule, but a Constitutional Republic. Which is in essence, a system of Laws and absolutes, which apply to every citizen. We need to get back to it.
  9. No trick candles, in fact no candles at all. I couldn't have got them all lit before some burned up. My friend did suggest that I just put 11 candles on it and celebrate my shoe size instead of my age.
  10. Thanks Rob, I have actually had a good day. The house was filled with children and grandchildren, and we were able to share some good food and fellowship together. That's all i would ask for. I am looking forward to a good year. That would be my prayer for you and our other friends as well. James
  11. You can probably find what you need to know in the Bendix air brake handbook. There is a link posted on page 3 of the Air Systems and Brakes forum
  12. Thanks for your clarification, they did indeed pay pay $9.00 each $8,33 to the motel and $.67 to the clerk for a total of $27.00.
  13. You may apply for a Class A at age 18, but it is only good in state and you can"t transport hazmat until age 21. You also find anything on line including a down loadable CDL manual by doing a Google search for "New Jersey Commercial vehicles".

  15. Amusing. How dare you, it"s been hilarious. It would have been even more fun if those guys could have seen this thread, and participated. LOL
  16. Yes you did in deed. and red as a fox's a$$. My best favorite color. Wow, what are you going to pull with it?
  17. Once, during a DOT exam a nurse asked me to jump up and down. My reply was, do I look like a damn athlete. Nothing else was said.
  18. You can access just about any thing you need to know online. Just do a Google search for Colorado DMV. There are loads of information available.
  19. Physically a 6V53, 71,or 92 are not exactly light weight, neither is an Eaton Fuller trans. Together they would probably be a pretty good load for a pickup. Someone recently posted some pictures of a 453 in a pickup and it seemed to pretty much fill the engine bay. I like BIG engines myself, so let's talk about why and what you want to accomplish.
  20. Sure there is, the assumption is that is a dollar missing. Not so, to simplify the managers instructions, he should have taken a penny out of the penny box near the cash register and said to the clerk " take this $5.01 down to that room and give each man $1.67" He didn't, and the clerk being somewhat of a charlaton put $2.00 in his pocket, thereby shortchanging the three men $. 66666667 each. The motel is not missing a dollar. And the guests are not missing a dollar, collectively they are missing two dollars. Which is not actually missing, but misappropriated by the clerk. When logic fails, numbers don't lie. The motel has 25 the guests have 3 and the clerk has 2 that's 30. When the clerk took the $2 that left $28 of the total. split 3 ways it became $9.33 . Returning $1 each it becomes $8.33 which is the shared cost of the room $25. That still leaves each guest $.67 short of their $10. You can see first hand, any day that you choose at any McDonalds that you choose that no one, kids especially is required to learn to make change.
  21. Do not assume" facts not in evidence", CSI NY. fact #1, cost of room $25.00. Fact#2, clerk collected $30. Fact #3, Manager instructs clerk to return $ 5.00. Fact #4, clerk puts $2.00 in pocket. Fact #5 clerk returns $3.00. The actual cost of the room $25, + $3 which the clerk returned = $28 not $27, not $29. $28 + $2 which the clerk stole = $30. At no time, as per the original question, was the clerk instructed to equally divide the refund. Might he have had an accomplice to split with, also not in evidence. Conclusions, splitting anything including firewood is risky. Never under any circumstance pay for a Motel with an ATM card. Logic is not always logical.
  22. lost logic is particularly hard to follow. It's their own dang fault, they should have stayed at <The Auto Affair>, they could have shared a delicious road kill casserole, some equally confounding conversation and you can be sure that the manager knows how to count money properly. Anyway what does leap year have to do with this.
  23. Yes indeed, you are somewhat off. But, I am still glad that you managed to pass.
  24. Rob, this has all been good information. Now let's take it a few steps further. The starter is hung up, or the electrical system is otherwise shorted out. The battery is gassing, or smoking. The battery cables are melting. The insurance premium is past due. The truck is parked between a new Lincoln Navigator and a day care center. From past experience I know that touching a melting electrical cable bare handed is bad, bad, bad. If the melting insulation doesn't stick to your skin, the red hot copper wire will burn the piss out of you. Very calmly taking a combination wrench and removing the positive cable, can, and most likely will cause a spark under these conditions. Past experience again. The resulting explosion will be very loud. Having these thoughts seared into your memory, a simple stationary panic, becomes a modified full blown panic. Hopping up and down from one foot to the other and yelling real loud probably wont help. Considering this to be an emergency, what would be the best course of action?
