  1. For some reason my truck has spot mirror beside the headlights and added chicken lights. I guess this is just for looks but I have never seen it before
  2. They only have six axle bolts. The 50,000 rears have 8. Looks like 44's to me. Nice looking truck
  3. Well got her rebushed and but a spring on the passager side and all new pads and the old truck runs good and straigth down the road, but i only put one spring on it because the other side was good and had not been on it long, the one i got from a mack junkyard a county away is a 10 leaf anti-sway, the one on the truck is a 13 leaf regular spring, i thought it would be ok but now when you load it it sets down on the drivers side. O well live and learn, i will be looking for another spring i guess, but she handles alot better.
  4. Thanks! i like the paint to, but it needs a new paint job, the paint is chiped on the hood and faded bad on the cab. I was thanking of haveing it painted this summer when i got done with the haul i am putting it on, same paint scheme put instead of white i thought about silver and red.
  5. yes i really need a overdrive, i was running back empty the other day and i got it to 58 for just a secound that was everything it would run, i thank that a overdrive would give me 10 to 15 mph on top and that would help calm her down at highway speeds.
  6. Ok so from what i understand my trans is a dirrect six speed with mutiable reverse gears, so i can swap a 12 speed or a mack 9 over and get the rpms down at highway speeds, and sorry about the pictures every time i send them from my phone that is what happens, havent figured it out yet, so thanks for the comments

  8. If it is not a overdrive i would like to change the tranny out for a overdrive, it runs the engine to death out on the road, with the 5.13 rears, but i would have to find a trans that would work good with the little engine. The engine runs like a top, sweet running 237, i found the tag above the bosch pump that says it was built in 10 mouth of 84 so it had the engine replaced not the original. Also it has a oil bath breather, is it easy to change it to a element style or do i have to find a whole breather off a later model. I have thought about putting a 15 speed over in it or a mack 9 speed, if the tranny does not already have a overdrive, what do you all thank, i could change the rears a good freind of mine has a set of cut off 55 with 4.17 ratio that i could buy and drop in my carriers but it may kill what little power i do have with the six speed, i thank that would but the truck up around 70 or 75 mph.
  9. The best rideing truck i ever drove had springs and a airride cab with a 215 ince wheel base and a national seat, nice ride, one of the roughest rideing trucks i ever drove was a air trac peterbilt with 44,000 rears and about a 195 ince wheel base. i thank a longer wheel base will ride better than a short one any day. But when you load it tall and heavy, air ride may make you sea sick on these rough old county roads around hear, nothing stands up like a good set of walking beams or anti sway camel backs
  10. Hauled with the old truck this week, i have a broke spring on the left side so i only let them load it to the top of the stakes, been hauling 20 ton a trip and about 3000 feet of logs with it. It is slow 48 is a good speed the tach don't work so i don't know what the engine is doing but at 55 mph it sounds like it is screaming. I do get down to 3th gear and about 8 mph on one hill on hwy 297, that is called hells point, but for a 36 year old truck it does ok i just wish it had some more speed or just run 55 at a lower rpm. I still have not took any pictures sorry guys i will try to rember tomarow to snap a few i downed the rear suspension to change the spring and pads when i found a bad truion bushing, and the pads did not have the spacers in between them on the sides. while laying under the truck i notice the trans looked biger than the old six speed in the floor of the shop, and i found the i.d. numbers in a diffrent place, it has x107 on it does any one know what trans that would be and the ratio, i am thinking that it may be a overdrive because the guy i got it from told me he thought it had 4.50 ratio, but it does not i cleaned up the carrier and it says 5.13 and the model is a c 113, any info would be great, and i will get some pics as soon as posible it is just hard to rember when i get in the truck at day light and get out at dark, but i will be putting it back together so hopefully i can snap a few with my i phone.
  11. Yea let me get her back together and cleaned up and i will post a few, got to get her dressed up for a photo shoot!! LOL
  12. Well i had no idea it was a love hate kind of engine or i would not have typed a word!!! from what i can tell from everyones response i will either love it or hate it no in between.. I still have not had a chance to load her down but the thing really runs sweet, and started right up at 28 deg. the other morning. I have still got to do some break work and get the doors letter, then i will put her to the test. While cleaning her out i found some scale tickets were the guy had hauled some pulpwood and i seen one were he had hauled 26 tons on it now that was grossing 76,000 lbs on a tandem, thats pretty good out of the hills around here but it could be that he never got over 40 mph either but i am prepaired for the worst so we will see.
  13. Went and got her today, took it on a little joy ride and then to the shop to do some work on her and get it ready for hauling, got to put a alt. on it it's not charging, and going to put some tires on it, its a dm685sx and i got it for 7 grand. The old truck is in good shape and the 6 speed shifts great. The truck also has 55 rears with anti sway springs with 4.52 ratio, i thank it is 4.52 that is what i can make out on the rear end. It tops out at about 58 mph, i was thinking of swaping the 6 speed out for a 15 over but the six works so good i hate to take it out and they hardly never give any trouble but the overdrive would be nice get her up around 70. I drove a early 80's r model with a 350 2 vavle that had a 15 speed in it and it would cook down the road it would run all over a 425 cat, but the 237 is no 350 but it would help it out on the top end. I will have a load on her in a week or so after i get done straighting her out and then i will let you all know how she does.
  14. Dang i feel alot better about what i paid for my dm now!! them trucks will never bring that kind of money, i hope they were betting on letting some one jew them down on the price!
  15. Yeap, and getting there is were the money is, i will upgrade if i need to in the furture, but for the money i can not pass it up at this time.
  16. Well guys i have made a deal and will be taking ownership tuesday, i drove the truck and i thought it was a very peppy little truck, it drives very good and shifts smooth, the truck also has a very strong jake. I have been hauling wood with a e7 454 and it does a good job as long as you keep it under 92,000 lbs but it is a tractor, and i know the 237 will not run with it but i tell you bobtail it would give it a run for its money till you hit 55 mph, lol thats about it with the 600. Now i have not had a load on it but i will tell you the truck will get up and get gone even with the six speed and it may just be the gearing in it but it does not feel week empty but i guess when i get her loaded i will find out, i thought it was cool looking in the mirror on the pas side and whacthing the black smoke roll out of it when i shifted and got on it, i also thought the truck has a very loud turbo for what it was, it doesn't sound as good as the tipturbine set up but i realy liked my frist impresion of the truck, but we will see how it goes but i am expected to crawl up the steep hills around here like most trucks, but maybe it will do a little better then i think it will
  17. Oh and i used to drive his r model with a 300 tipturbine and i did like driving it, i also drove a lowboy truck with a 350 2v and a 15 speed fuller trans with 4.44 rears and it was a good running little truck, i just have never drove a 237 or a e-9. if i had my pick i would be driving a e 9...LOL!
  18. Thanks guys, i still havent made up my mind. The truck does have a jake, and the previous owner put new cab mounts in it and a new drivers side floor pan because like you said 607, the salt has got to it. As far as me being happy with the 237, i will probly wish i had a 350 but for the money i can upgrade later if i was to buy it. So you all think it is a pass, and try to find something with some more hp.. i just keep thinking of the old timers that used to drive them trucks hauling coal, i had a guy tell me he hauled on a truck identical to the one i am talking about from the pit to the coal washer and he hauled 35 ton on it, i will not be over 25 ton so it should not phase it. We will see, i still can't decide but what i thank would be wrose than crawling up the hills is the 58 mph top speed of the old truck.
  19. Hey everyone, i am thinking of buying a dm 600 from a guy that has a 237 and a 2 pole six speed. Now the truck has a nice log bed on it and will haul around 3500 hundrend feet of timber and more if the wood is good and he claims the truck will run about 55 mph he said maybe 58 and that it is alot cheaper on fuel than his 300 r model. the truck is in good shape one spot of rust on the cab in front of the drivers door, the frame is very dry and needs some paint. The truck feels very tight and drives good. The only thing that bothers me is the truck has always smoked very light when warmed up going down the road, blue haze come out of it not bad smoke but a light blue smoke. What could this be the engine is smooth and starts right up. I will be useing it local to haul about 25 miles one way, i do wish it would do around 70 so i could get on the free way coming back but it doesnt take that much longer to just go the old road. Also the truck has what i call a belly frame it is very tall till it gets about a foot behind the cab and it is double framed that looks good but it does need some paint and primer because the old paint is almost gone and the surface rust is getting bad on it and it has the 55,000lbs rears with 11r 24.5 rubber. He is asking 7500 bucks for it and to me it seems a little high but i would say the bed woud cost around 2500 to build not counting labor so it's probley about right, so what can you all here tell me about these trucks, he has used it off and on for about 7 years and sold it once for 12,000 bucks and then got it back from the guy, so i am thanking it is a good truck but would i be better off to find a r model and pay a little more, and are the 237 realy that much better on fuel than the 300, i used to drive for him with his r model and i usally filled up twice a week maybe 3 times if we hauled alot, so any info would be greatly apperciated.
  20. Been the same hear wet and cold, but i have been busy haulin wood, thats one reason it's took me so long to get back up with the guy, i thougth i had him about talked into selling just the rear then i seen him at the mill the other day and he said he would rather sell the whole truck.
