  1. I watched BJ too. Stuff was selling strong. I've been to the Palm Beach auction and the Vegas one. Still haven't made it out to Scotsdale yet. My shop just sent 14 cars to Mecum in Kissimmee for this weeks auction. Should do very well down there. All of them are star cars and will be going off TV time.

  2. I'm trying to figure out what this is. Looks like a car carrier rack but what's the bed? Is it a rollback or straight flatbed or some kind of utility body? Any side pictures to show it?

  3. My father purchased a 944 in 1984. We used to get this Porsche magazine from them since he got the car new. When the 959 came out and they ran it at the Paris Dakar rally, I was hooked. I try to catch it on TV back in the day and now I try to remember to find out info on the web. The worlds greatest off road race. Besides watching the 959's, my favorite class of racers was the truck. To see this behemoths barreling through the desert at highway speeds over some nasty terrain was always entertaining. Thanks for the update! Now I have to catch up on the rest of the classes.

  4. There isn't a AAA for trucks. Simply because a service like that really doesn't pay the towing company anywhere near a good rate. When you are paying $70,000-$100,000 for a single piece of equipment, it will take a lot of $25 tows and service calls to make those payments. Now bump that to a $250,000-750,000 single piece of heavy duty equipment, you need to charge accordingly to cover those costs. That's not counting insurance payments either. A national roadside trucking assistance program is a good idea but you will only have poorly equipped and trained companies doing it because of the minimum rates they will pay.

Best bet is to shop around or call the repair shop and ask them who the most reasonable company is to haul your rig.

  5. When my General took a dump 1/4 mile after fueling I called around to a bunch of towing companies before I got someone to do it for less. I had to go 2 miles. Everyone wanted $300-350 just to show up + either mileage or hourly rate with a minimum of 1 hour. I called these guys and they said $275. When we got to my shop he said It was an easy hook up and tow so $225. I really appreciated it.

I almost dragged it back with a tow strap behind a pick up but God forbid something happened, it would have cost a crapload more to me. Plus being a former towing operator and WreckMaster certified, morally it made sense to hook it.
