to pull dump trailer or low boy local. Its single framed and the frame is cracked on the top right behind the fifth wheel rail mount on the drivers side, not sure if it was a heavy trailer or that the fith wheel frame is damaged and jamed. The cracl appears to to go to about where it starts to roll down.
I thought it was alot of miles on the drive train and due to be redone, just cant afford to due all at once.

I am still looking for a newer truck to work part time and restore. I found a 87 R688ST, E6 with 9 speed, unknown over all miles but supposedly engine was rebuilt and clutch done about 750000 miles ago, transmission and rears never done. Some frame cracks. Fifth wheel needs replaced. Drivers seat is worn out. Most of the tire it is being sold with will need replaced.
Cab and hood is in good shape a little surface rust, brakes and front end are good and brakes were done about a year ago. Interior is worn but complete. Runs and drives and passed DOT inspection this year.
Am I looking at money pit? I dont want to put more into it than it would be worth as it wont be considered a hobby truck but needs to earn its keep.
All opinions appreciated. Thanks
Rob

Yard drove a B61 tandem dump at my uncles was 6 +/ -, he had 3 or 4 of them, I used to ride sometimes with him in an R model in the winter sitting on a milk crate full of coveralls and rags. We would haul tatermeal out of Presque Isle, ME I remember I was glad that I got to set in front of the heater.

welcome back, now would be a good time to cut down the trees you need an act of congress for to get that equipment out!

yes it is safe, the lug nuts have nothing to do with the rim. The tire/rim combo is safe as long as the locking ring is properly seated and undamaged. The clamp/wedge portion holds to the main part of the rim not the lock ring.

Sounds like politicians and unions are CYA for the clean up.

Its a 59 , when I took the fenders off I left the inner fenders and the head light panels all togetther and after fixing them boltes them back as tthe way I took them off, the rad shell has two 3 or 4 inch long flat brackets bolted on the bottom. Also what is a good shim for the radiator since the original bolts with the bug head and spacers are broken or missing.

I just got my wife talked in to helping me put the painted fenders back on, I have not painted the shutters but the nose is done in the same color as the fenders.
My question is can you put the fenders on and after I paint the shutters put that and the nose cover on? Or do I have to put the nose cover on before the fenders?
I need to get parts put back on so I can make room in the shop as I get ready for cold weather.

I agree with Dennis M, also check the front pillers for rust and missing interior parts. I would say even less if running condition is unknown. It will be at least $1000 for 6 decent used tires if its been sitting for awhile and transport costs. You will need at least a 14,000K trailer and 1 ton to haul it home.

I know that area my wife is from just south of there. I would be leary of the bill of sale as Michigan issues titles for large trailers. Small trailers under 2500 lbs actual weight are issued perm tags and the registration is the title. http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1585_1587---,00.html
I have had several trailers and vehicles reigersterd and titiled in Michigan, in fact I still have a trailer I bought new in 2004 with michigan perm tags on it sitting next to my pole barn. If I was you get the vin and call the Michigan DMV. I would think there is a reason the seller does not have a title, its not like its a 1960's Mack that was found on the back forty of a farm.

Will he ship or is it pick up only?

Ran into similiar with some old crawler manuals I would bet all those books are public domain with no longer being under copyright Take the copy right numbers and search them in this data base. Even if you did find one that was somehow renewed all you have to do is get written permission to copy it for forum members.

Low pressure air should unblock the ful line/ pickup tube/ sock. The fuel line may also be broken so it can not create sucktion to draw fuel from the tank. Blowing air into the line should help determine if that is wrong. If the line is split or if the tank is dirty that will need to be taken care of or every time you add fuel or get the tank sloshing you will have problems.
You answered your own question with hooking th portable tank to the fuel pump, just because it the pump is rebuild does not mean it is working.

This is the measurment of the studs I have, inboard thread .870 x 1.743 shoulder thru hub .939 flange measured on flat sides 1.152 outer thread 1.112 x2.114 , needs to be 3/4 inch longer Thanks
So if i have figured it right 7/8" x 1 3/4 long then the flange and 1 1/8 x 2 9/64 but you need an additional 3/4 inch so over all length to be at 4 7/8 to 5 inches.
Based off that description of the original stud it should be a euclid E-5922-L /R, there is not a stud that is that size 3/4 inch longer

I have a contour cab too, and need both the windshield and back glass someone posted a while ago that watts have the gaskets so I checked out their website the windshield and back glass gasket is listed I should probably order them before the prices go up. Remember you need to also get the locking strip.

looks to me like it had a dumper or flat bed with a towing receiver hitch that was torched off, the frame ends did not look cut in the pictures.
also looks like it has tube less tires
1987 R688ST is it a money pit?
