Youtube

Well,I posted my first youtube video. Not much to it really, and kind of shaky-you know how a cement mixer rides! This was taken after I left the stoplight at Concord,Va. headed west on rt. 460,and passing by Litchford's garage. I'm only about a mile from the shop here.

Yeah...what Paul Said

Got another week in the bag-went back to Neville Island, Pa. with a load of beams in the Conestoga, just 30 footers, after I got the truck out of the shop. Then I loaded at Butler of course and went to Chesapeake. Stayed at home Wednesday night, then went to Orlando Thursday. They had loads going to Pittsburgh and Butler loads back to Chesapeake, but I opted for the Orlando on my flatbed, even though it's a long ways on Thursday, rather than a Conestoga and another load out of Butler. Workin' Like A Dawg

Well,I thought I had an easy run for Friday, but like the song says "there ain't no easy run". I left here at 4:45 this morning and got home at 7:30. All I had to do was take a load of pipes to Durham, then load something for Monday delivery. Only thing is there were 7 trucks at the same job,I was number 4 in line, and the loader operator looked like today was the first time he'd ever been on the machine. The loader was big enough to unload the whole stack at one time, but the forks weren't long eno

What's Up ?

What did I do this week ,if anything?...oh, I remember- I went to Negley, Oh. with a van load because my return load from Follansbee,WV to Richmond had to be in a van. Didn't have any 48 footers at the yard so I had to pull a 53. Tight spot at N.B.Handy in Richmond, got to blind side back to the dock, and it's much easier with a 48' trailer because it's so cramped in there. The windows in the sleeper and motorized mirrors really come in handy there. Then I went to Seneca,Pa. with a load of treated

What's New?

Geez, what did I do this week,if anything?..oh,I remember-left Sunday (4th Sunday in a row I had to go out,and I hate having to go on Sunday!) for Chester,W.V. After I unloaded in Chester Monday morning I went to Macedonia,Oh. and loaded coils going to Roanoke. First time i'd been to Macedonia to load for a long time.Good place to load, nice people, Rachel ( )in the office looked good as always . Unloaded in Roanoke Tuesday morning, then went to the shop and fueled and dropped my trailer and pu

What I've Been Doing

Haven't been blogging much lately...probably people don't read it much anyway, it's harder to find. I have trouble finding it myself, and I cain't put pictures on it. Last week I went to Orchard Park and unloaded in the wind and rain. I left there at 10:30 am and had to be in Warren, Oh. by 2 o'clock to load. Pulled in at exactly 2, with an average speed of 59.4 mph. When I got loaded in Warren I had to go outside and tarp the load of plates-in the pouring rain. I brought that load to Lynchburg,

What I Saw This Week...

Only made one round this week. Thought I was going to Lisbon, Ohio or Mercer, Pa. with treated lumber Tuesday, so I lollygagged around here in no particular hurry to leave, but when I got to headquarters I had a load going to Roxana, Il. WTF?!! If i'd known that I would have left 2 hours ago! Brought lumber back to Moneta. Some of what I saw along the way- some trucks on rt. 60 in West Virginia this used to be known as "dead man's curve" on rt. 60. Used to be a lot of truck traffic on this

What An Idiot!

I'm home today so I could go to my brother's wedding. I'm still loaded for Roanoke, but I could have gotten somebody else to deliver the load tomorrow while I took a van load to Georgia tonight. And we had some really good paying loads of 55' piling going to Chicago, to deliver at 3:00 Monday evening. But I had to go to the wedding-Ma wanted me to take pictures. Only thing is, I found out when I talked to her last night that the wedding's not 'til NEXT weekend. D'oh!!!

Weekly Update Of Events That Transpired During The Previous Routine Work Week Driving A Truck Across Our Nation's Highways

OK, enough of the nonsense,it's time to be serious. I've got a 'chicken on a can' cooking in the smoker oven too, always tender, juicy, and most delicious! Very easy to make too. I had to start this all over just now-it's very windy here and the power went off just for a couple of seconds, long enough to shut the computer off so I lost everything and had to restart it and start all over again. A big deal when you type with one finger. I left Sunday going to Fremont,Oh. When I unloaded there

Weekly Report,with Photos

What's left of the garden looks pretty good, lots of squash and onions, more tomatoes than we can eat,egg plant, and the hot peppers are loaded! I've been freezing them whole, and when they're all harvested i'm gonna put them in the blender, liquify 'em with some vinegar and salt, boil it for a while, then pour it into bottles-home made hot sauce! I've got ecoli-free jalapenos, tabascos, hot cherry,New Mexico Big Jims, and a Habenero.Thought I had some cayennes, but they turned out to be more jalapenos. Ha

Weekly Report

I don't know if there's any dead rats in the mixer cab, but they had definately been into the d-con I left for them. I didn't have time to check yesterday because I got back from Florida around 5:30 and had to get to the bank before they closed at 6:00. Wonder if a rubber snake would keep them out? I went to Neville Island with a load of beams Monday, then reloaded in Sharon, Pa. back to Lynchburg. Turns out the coils were the wrong size , so I dropped them at the shop and took a load of beams t

Weekend's Over

Sure was nice to get a whole weekend for a change. I just about got the garden finished, planted some corn, pole beans, green beans,16 tomato plants, some green peppers, hot peppers,a couple of squash, and one eggplant. Already had onions, cabbage and garlic planted. Also got the aluminum cans bagged and loaded on the pickup so Jobyna can haul them to Cycle Systems. Weekend Wrap-up

Short week, long weekend. Had the kids over-all grown, but still the kids. Jo's son Billy got here Friday and left Saturday afternoon-he's 38. My son T.J, 32, and his wife and 2 children came yesterday, and my youngest son Morgan and his girlfriend got here soon after. Then Karla and Daniel came, and Jeffrey Moore rode over too. I fixed them up with grilled ribs, chicken, hot wings, and a squash-gotta have your vegetables! Actually, the grilled squash went over pretty good. I sliced it and marin

Week's Recap

New battery,I should have said, not batteries. They only replaced the one that was bad,so now I've got one new and three old ones.Should have replaced them all in my opinion with winter coming. But I did get 8 new drive tires too. They put Generals on it-had Michelins before-and boy did they feel funny at first.Went to Dillwyn to load and thought I'd hit A patch of black ice in the first curve, but it was 85 degrees. Went to Fremont then Macedonia to Roanoke and thought I might be done for the week,

Wednesday...still At Home

Crap!..This week ain't going too good so far- I was supposed to deliver that load of beams in Birmingham tomorrow, but I went to the doctor today and he told me to come back tomorrow (again!) so he could look at it and change the bandage (again!). So, I finally had to give the load up. The doctor couldn't believe the amount of stuff he got out of it today-it had filled up again. He said it had to be a golfball sized amount of nasty stuff that was still in there. He said maybe tomorrow I would be

Vacation,day 1

Well,my first day of vacation is about over-i'm ready to go back to work. Got up at 3:30 this morning, for no particular reason. Climbed up onto the roof when it was light enough to see and fixed the shingles that the wind blew off earlier this year. Used a homemade ladder I built out of some treated 2x4's I brought home. Weighs about 9,000 lbs. but it worked OK. I didn't replace the shingles, just put a lot of tar on it. Then I went over to Wal-Mart and got a weedeater and a sprayer,so when we go

Tuesday...at Home

I was supposed to deliver that load of beams in Birmingham today, but I went to the doctor yesterday and he bladed that cyst and stuck some kind of drain in it, then told me to come back today so he could look at it and change the bandage. So, I tried to get the delivery put off 'til today so I wouldn't have to give the load up, but they said to bring it Thursday. Worked out real well because the doctor told me to come back again tomorrow. I think he's gonna pull the drain thing out and I should

Truckin' Around...

Well it's been 9 days since the last cigarette...but who's counting,right?.. and that was an ultra light-only one all day, while I was fueling up before I left for Orchard Park. Went to Zelienople and Fremont this week, loaded back to Roanoke out of Macedonia both times. Yesterday I went down to Petersburg and loaded 60' piling going about 10 miles North of Portage, Wisconsin for Monday delivery. Already got a load back to Norfolk out of Crystal Lake,Il. We had about 18-20 loads going up there,

Truckin' Again Again (recycled Title)

I've been to Brook Park,Oh. and back. Unloaded in Roanoke last night and came home because the phone has been out since Monday night. Had a thunderstorm Monday night and lightning struck a big chestnut oak tree about 20' from the end of the house-too close for comfort! there's still bark and leaves all over the ground. The lightning struck the very top and peeled a strip of bark all the way to the ground, going around the tree like a corkscrew. I'll get a picture this weekend. The truck ran fine

Truckin' Again

Well,I got in one trip this week anyway.Went to Export,Pa. with a load of beams-that's near New Alexandria, but I didn't have time to stop and see Barry.Or more likely,he doesn't have time to fool with me. I had to get over to Malta,Ohio and get a load of cement mixers and everything that goes along with them. Had the trailer loaded from back to front, front to back, side to side-had 2 stacks of plastic bins piled up in the middle to 13' 6",a couple of wheeled carts, and the rest mixers. Unloaded

Truck Shows

Why am I up at 5:00am? Just can't sleep...except when i'm supposed to be working! I think if I had the walls and ceiling in the bedroom painted to look like the inside of a truck cab I could sleep fine. Might be the excitement-i'm planning on making the trip to Troutman,N.C. today to the ATHS show. Got my cameras ready! Speaking of shows,Truck Enterprises (the Kenworth dealership) in Lynchburg is having a big truck and bike show today. It's sponsored by channel 13,the local tv station and it's t

Too Tired

I left Sunday and went to Cleveland, brought coils back to Roanoke, then loaded treated lumber at Moneta and went to Seneca,Pa. and finally went to Kent,Oh. and picked up 2 new 48' aluminum Fontaine trailers. They bought Ravens trailers,so you can't get a Ravens anymore, but I suppose these are the same trailer, just different name. They came from the old Ravens factory.Just got in with them a little while ago,so i'm too tired to write anything tonight. Maybe later...zzzzzz
