I've never delved too deep into the ESV, so this might be a struggle...

I see i posted on this thread, rather than another thread.  Anyway,  not gray wires... If you can find the 9-2 code svc. bulletin, it has a good procedure.  Of course, Heinz can find good info as well..

grounds in the cab are behind the cluster to the left. in the fuse panel lower left or right screwed to the cab frame. there is a black ground breaker on the firewall under the wind shield, and on the block in front of the starter, and there is a wire from that bolt to the frame behind the left steer tire. , and of course the battery box. The bulletin had use to remove the eyelets, throw the star washers away, and scrape off any heat shrink glue that may get between the eyelets, and clean the mounting surface before putting the wires back on. the ground on the engine block does work its way loose, and it is the main ground for the engine harness. Tools like these come in handy when repairing plugs and sockets. There are many options for these terminal release tools. There are also very expensive terminal installation tool kits.

PS-650 - DEUTSCH 645 Piece Solid Pin & Socket Kit for Size 20, 16, and 12 ContactsHDT-48-00 This is the High dollar stuff, and this is just a small sample of what is out there.  how deep do you intend on diving when it comes to wire harness repair.  I have used these tools many times and they are great, if you do a lot of low voltage harness repairs.

ok. well maybe just feel things out.  here is a tool that is cheap and easy to use. I use mine often when doing wiring repairs. I even fixed the ABS light in my wifes Avalanche. A wheel sensor wire broke in the wheel well, and I cut it clean, slid heat shrink over it then soldered the wires back together. that was over a year ago. th?id=OPHS.4lMc3rPvfcqVpQ474C474&o=5&pid=21.1&w=174&h=174 these run between $25-$35.00
