Jake Problem

Hey Guys,

I'm new here, just started driving a '98 RD688s, Mechanical E-7 350. The Jake works fine but will not stop itself at an idle. It just stalls the truck out. Is there a switch or something that could be messed up? Like I said however, other than at an idle it works fine, you can hold the switches on either the clutch or throttle and keep it running at an idle, but that gets old doing it all day long. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks! Matt

Idk about Macks but on the mechanical cats I drove they do not shut down automatically. you either got to put alittle pressure on the clutch to break any circuit. give it a touch of throttle or shut the switch off. They are not like electronics

There is an electrical contact in the governor section of the injection pump. As the truck slows to a stop and the governor takes over idle operation, the rack is pushed forward breaking this contact, shutting the Jake down. This is a very critical adjustment to work correctly. There are many different variations to the mounting and adjustment of this system.

On mechanical engines thats the way it is! Normal!

I rode in a Dm that had a jake my dad let the clutch out and it stalled with the switch on. Idk just every mechanical engine I ever drove or rode in if you did not shut the switch off or break some kinda of contact it would die.

Not knocking you but just shut the switch off when not in use.Idk how true it is but heard it is not good to be left on all the time. I even shut them off when not in use on electronic engines.once you get into the routine it doesn't take much time.
