Can You Help Me Identify This Part?

Hi guys, I was give the air system on my '62 B-83 some much needed TLC yesterday and while cleaning off the compressor name plate I noticed this part. Is this where I can add an air brake conditioner/antifreeze to the system? The part has a tube the sticks down inside the plastic canister and the hose appears to connect to the side of the gov. on the Tu-flo 500. Also is it a good idea to add a dryer to these older systems? I traced down the lines and it appears this system never had one. Did they not add dryers on some models?

That is an alcohol injector for the purpose you asked. They work well. It wouldn't be a bad idea to add an air dryer to the sytem but not needed for a hobby truck, (my opinion).

There are two types of alcohol systems, the injector and evaporator. You have the evaporator system that feeds evaporated alcohol into the compressor intake. Another type is the alcohol injector which injects alcohol downstream of the compressor, after the air dryer and into the wet tank. It is operated by the same dryer purge line from the governor. Bexdix makes both if you ever need to replace yours.
