  1. Breaking News!!!

We just hauled a truck in with a gasser...not sure of model or engine yet, but the water pump looks like yours!  I can get a guy to pull it off by this weekend and get some numbers off of it.  I will keep you posted...

    Barry,

Any luck getting the water pump off?

    David

  2. If it's cast iron, then it CAN be welded.

I can't see why it could not be fixed, and not for hordes of money either. If it's not useable...then I'd like to take a look at it and maybe see if I can do something with it.

    If Barry comes thru...that's great!

Thanks for the offer, I will take you up on that if what Barry has does not match up.

When I got the truck I knew the pump was bad so I thought "how hard could it be to get a new pump or have one fixed", I guess if it was just a regular E series Mack instead of a fire truck I might have better luck.

After one year of searching I have learned that old truck restoration is also kinda like being a detective, keep asking questions and follow all leads.

    Again, thanks for the offer!

WOW, that would be great! I will keep my fingers crossed.

  4. Ok, fill us in.............What does your pump need??  Impellar? Shafts, welding?

Ok, the fellow I got the truck from did not know what the grease caps were for so he never turned them. the bearings in the pump went bad while he was in his house and the truck was outside running. the shaft wore into the housing and it needs to be rebored oversize and sleeved so a new bearing can be used.

There are not any automotive machine shops near where I live and the radiator shop that repairs water pumps says they do not have the equipment to repair it. I sent it out to Gould's repair shop in NY, they called me when they got it apart and said they could not fix it either but, a few of the guys on the ATHS site tell me that it should be repairable and that the shop I sent it to may not have wanted to put in the time to do it.

I have been looking for a replacment or repair for a year now, I really want this truck on the road!!!

  5. there's a 510 posted in the classified section with a duplex for sale.

I saw that ad, it is in IL and I am in GA. By the time I got up there and back It would cost me another $500 for fuel with todays diesel prices!

That would give me a $1000.00 water pump, looks like I just need to keep looking for someone who can fix what I have.

    Thanks

Join SPAAMFAA (spaamfaa.org they also have a yahoo group)

Your truck might be listed on one of the registrys that are kept for Mack trucks.

Also there is a Yahoo group for Mack fire trucks (mackfiretrucks)

If your truck has not been scraped there is a good chance it is still around, I had to go to the city that originaly bought the truck I now have, they have a history center and I was able to get some info that gave me enough leads to get most of the info I needed.

It was a long process but I stuck with it and was able to track down all of the previous owners and get tons of info.

If you do find where it came from they should still have records of the truck.

As your truck was on the West coast I would bet if it is in private hands it is still around, you will have to act like a detective at times but it will pay off.

Go to the spaamfaa yahoo group and ask your question there, someone may know something or be better able to help

Welcome to the group, you will find that everyone here will at sometime jump in and try to help!

I have the same model truck you are looking for, if you have any questions feel free to ask me.

    Good luck!

  7. still looking for that?? :o  hasent it been a wile  sence you started looking? I asked a few friends first time I saw your post but with no luck I will keep asking around

October will be a year, I have sent the pump I have to Arthur Gould's rebuilders and they sent it back saying they could not rebuild it so, I am looking for another pump.

I have run into problems before with other trucks but none that have taken this long.

I am betting this pump was used on other engines, I did find that Mack made a few marine engines in the EN510 but later found that only six were made so that kinda rules that out.

    David

  8. Can anyone here tell me if parts from other engines were interchangeable with the EN510 engines?

I am still searching for a water pump for my ENF510A and IF I knew that other engines used the same pump it would make life much better at the shop.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. This would be followed by a double coating of an epoxy primer/sealer. Epoxy primer/sealers are not waterproof either but if the vehicle stays inside as you work with it, many years will pass before you have problems again.

    Thanks for this info Rob,

I was wondering if I was doing it right and you answered that question to a T.

Is there a brand of epoxy primer/sealer that I should look for?

  10. This is along my level of knowlege, but I need more information as to how much bare metal is showing, what grit of sandscratch are you trying to work with, what your final topcoat will be, and what your budget will allow etc.

    Rob

    Rob,

I would say about 45% will be down to bare metal, the other 55% is either original paint or primerd from the previous owner.

It might be better for me to back up a little and tell you what I am working with.

around ten years or so the truck body was sand blasted by someone else who did not take the time to do it right, then they primed it and let it sit outside for a few years.

Parts of the body has rust coming back up thru the primer and parts of it held up OK.

I am trying to sand most of the truck that needs work and prime it again and use a clear coat to get rid of what rust I can.

I will not be painting for a while and the truck is inside so I am thinking the primer with a clear coat should hold up untill I can get all the mechanical work out of the way

and get it running the way I think it should run.

Then when all that is done I hope to start on a real paint job.

My goal now is to try and stop the rust that is there now and prevent more from coming up.

    Thanks!

  11. Hello,

My name is David Waits, I am 44 years old and live in Roopville, GA.

I got into Mack trucks by allways wanting my own fire truck, when I was able to get one it was a Mack and now I have been bitten by the dog!

My truck is a 1948 S-75 pumper that is under restoration, I have my eye on a really good B61 that a friend has. I am planning to use it for hauling the pumper to shows as well as pulling my horse trailer.

I am married to my high school sweetheart who lets me do just about anything as long as it is not illegal or imorall or fattening we have a 13 year old daughter, two horses, one dog (who will ride on or in anything with me) and three (too many) cats.

I like the new look of the forum and the looks of the new board!
