I want a picture if this!Hay Albert,
You what to hang on the frame rail with the timing gun pointed at the balancer while I'm going down the track hooked to the sled? You still have a old hood we could cut a hole in? That will put a good load on her for a few seconds. Oh crap forgot no passengers per the pulling rules... LOL
Maybe a good use for a GoPRo camera and timing light rigged up under the hood??? Glenn got a solution just had to think about it for a minute.

Mack NA 673 (672 CID) diesel @180 HP in a B model doesn't sound too impressive these days either.
That was for a P engine (twin tuned intake manifolds), plain one was only 170!

This truck also has a hood scoop on it too. The scoop would be for the tip turbine fan. The second pipe on the air cleaner would more than likely be for under hood air supply in cold weather.I don't think the type of air cleaner has anything to do with the truck being Canadian or not. R model air cleaners with two air ducts coming out the front would be an indicator that the truck had a Maxidyne 285 or 300 with tip turbine / coolpower set-up. One air duct goes directly to the intake side of the turbo and the other goes directly to the cool air side of the heat exchanger. I haven't seen any other type of Mack engine using this type of dual duct air cleaner, but I also haven't spent too much time in Canada.
I only mentioned this at all because it would have been a non-typical powertrain combination to have a 12 speed transmission mounted to a Maxidyne 300 engine. The high torque and long powerband of the Maxidyne did not need so many gear ratios, and the whole selling point of the engine was to cut down on the number of gear shifts needed when accelerating or decelerating.
If in fact Canadian R models had two air ducts coming out of the air cleaner for some other reason, then I'd be interested in understanding why.

The first R models had air cleaners like that, there was a cable to control under hood air or external air.I've seen some in colder climate have an air cleaner with an intake tube routed from under the hood, to draw warmer, drier air. That appears to be the set up on this truck.

Don't let Randy see this!Grant Haulage was given a demo with a 1000 series Mack V8 (pre E9) in an RWS in the early 80's. They ended up accepting the demo unit as there own on the condition it was repowered with an 8V92 Detroit. They were unimpressed with the pre E9 engine and never spec'ed a V8 Mack in any of there trucks considering they rarely ever hauled less then GVWR's of 100,000lbs. The E6 350 did just fine for them hauling 110-120 gross.

How about some pictures, please?A somewhat local auto parts hauling outfit runs some high cube trailers with small drive tires on their tractors out of the auto parts plant behind my house.

First heads had 18 stud 9/16" studs (single corner studs)
First fix was to enlarge the corner studs to 3/4"
Latest heads have 20 stud 5/8" studs or bolts (double corner studs)

What are these two lines from the block?

The first fitting for the compressor is for water (oil feed on a 673 is internal through the auxiliary drive), does the cannister have any wires going to it?, how many hoses or lines going to it?
