  1. I transfer the title and apply for the antique license at the same time. I have my proof of insurance and the four pictures. I give all of that to the notary. The notary takes it all to Harrisburg. They call me to pick up the plate in a few days and the title comes in the mail with the antique title brand a few weeks later. I have done it with many titles from Pa along with one from Mass and one from Ca. I have not have any problems. If I don't have the insurance card and pictures the notary will hold the title until I do.

The only trouble I have had is with the pictures; lettering, gold leaf, rust, dents.

  2. You don't have to change the title into your name before you get the antique title. It can all be done at the same time if you have the four good pictures of your vehicle. Also, Condon and Skelly is not writing new antique policies for big trucks. I tried last week. I was told I need a CDL if I am going to license a trailer over a certain GVW. most of you probably have CDL's though. The rest sound pretty good to me. I cover any imperfections with paper before taking pictures and take a whole bunch in different levels of light and at slightly different angles then pick the best 4 to submit. Make sure the windows are up.

  3. If you can come in June you can come to the atca truck show.in Macungie, Pa. It usually has 500 or more trucks and the most prominent make is Mack. You can tour the Mack factory and go to the Mack Museum. There are some local collections too. Otherwise come.for.Mack Day the first weekend in October. It is in Lititz, Pa. You can still go to the Mack Museum and the Mack factory. You are welcome to come see my trucks. We have a couple dozen Macks. We are 30 minutes south of Macungie Pa.

  4. What kind of ignition is included? I'd check the coil for "saturation" at temperature, contact point dwell time, (gap) and change the capacitor, (condensor) for good measure. The coils, and the capacitors can be troublesome as they age, and heat problems are a very good indicator. Does it fire right off with a "sniff" of ether? If so look at the carburation, I still have the light bulb inside a heat sink for a "ballast" on my coil, but the truck starts right off now.

I'll have to talk to my father about these things. They are over my head. I've never tried giving it ether when it won't start. It starts on the first try when it is cold as long as it is choked and i pump the gas. Thanks for the info.

  5. Parallel six volt batteries solved that problem with my A-40. It wouldn't crank when the engine was at operating temperature.

    Rob

    Rob,

The truck cranks great with one 6 volt. It just won't fire. It some times takes over 5 minutes of repeated cranking to fire.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  6. That is a great looking truck. Yours is an A model and the other is an E model. The E model preceeded the A model. They used the same cab, but the grill is different. I don't know about the hood and fenders. I think you have the serial number wrong. Please take a closer look. Maybe it is 75A1001? Does your truck run? It looks pretty solid. A little rubbing compound should go a long way. Looks like you have a great location too. I have a very similar truck to yours, 405A1002. It is in original condition with a few modifications. The body is solid. It runs great, but does not like to start when the engine is hot.

  7. That is a really neat truck. I would love to have it, but it is way out of my price range. It is really hard to set a value on a truck like that. I had someone call wanting to know if I wanted to sell my H613. I thought it over for a while. I don't know what it is worth in non-running unrestored condition. I know what I paid for it and that I wouldn't sell it for that. My father said tell him $15,000. I didn't think it was worth that much, but was afraid that he might so I told him I wouldn't sell it. It is very hard to put a price on these one-of-a-kind trucks.

A couple years ago I was trying to sell two old International fire trucks for a friend. I had someone from Australia who would pay the asking price and send someone to get them. The owner didn't want them to go that far. I did sell them to the great International heaven in Canada, but I got a couple thousand less than the asking price and they still didn't stay in the US.

  8. There was a long thread on here or on the ATHS site with pictures a month or two ago. Also someone recently wrote on here that they spoke to John and he responded that he is no longer in the old parts business. I talked to him a while at Mack Day and he did not tell me that. I do not have a number for him. You could probably find it in the web, John Chalmers Cashtown, PA.

  9. The company my father worked for had 2 R models that looked really nice. One had the hood green with the depressed area that the top and back grey. They other was blue with grey. The cabs were white. There is an old picture of an R model in the recent gallery pictures that is red except for the depressed are in the hood that is white. Something like that would look really good on your U model.

  10. Yes your truck is an E model. There were a lot of different models that looked like this. If you look in my gallery under "macks" you will see a similar truck. Mine is a Type 55. Like they said, look for the serial number plate somewhere in the cab, probably on the passenger side seat base. And don't run detergent oil unless you drop the oil pan and clean it out. I wouldn't worry about an oil filter unless you plan on putting a lot of miles on the truck. They are not full flow any way. I have attached a Mack add from ebay that might work to show you a type 50, but maybe not.

I'll be at Macungie and Springfield. I might bring the Type 55 to Macungie, but not to Springfield.

  11. Doug,

That was a very interesting discussion. I thought it was a fire truck emblem to start, but now realize the difference. Will you post the pictures of the emblems that you mentioned? My 1950 LFT has Mack Diesel in an oval on both sides of the hood. I am told this was only for the trucks with lanovas in them. Not sure if that is true. As you know, most diesel L models have Mack and Diesel script emblems separate.

  12. I think I missed the boat on organizing the residents. They started tagging vehicles over 2 years ago. That is when I should have talked to the other residents. Now that they have all cleaned up their properties why would they want to help me? They will allow one vehicle under a tarp per property. We have 3 properties there so that is 3 we can keep. Also if they cannot see them they will not do anything. I am going to get a fence put up at my house to hide them. They are not doing anything about trailers, registered or not. I will put the trailer where the trucks were. I have more than enoough to fill up that space after I move the trucks. I have gotten a 2 month extension on moving them. As long as I am making progress I can have more time. They do not know that I am just moving them from one property to another, but if they cannot see them at my house they will not come looking for them. I know it is not a perfect solution, but I can live with it. Mike
