The 466 is a great engine just low on power. They run forever. At least the older ones do. Whats the deal with mack and renault? Did mack own renault did renault own mack? On the older macks a lot of the parts have both Mack and Renault cast in it.

My friends uncle just bought an 84 mack midliner with the renault in it. Its pretty quick. We raced that mack against an international with a 466 and 6 speed and the mack won by a long a shot. The trans they used behind them has probably the weirdest gear pattern ive ever seen in a truck
1 3 4
R 2 5
Its funny when somebody drives it that doesnt know the pattern. missin gears and such

Thanks for the pictures. I have one question for somebody though. What models are those flatfender macks? Are they B's or another model?
Thanks

Get a triaxle. Dont go with a tandem. In jersey you get 80000 lbs with a triaxle and a bigger box. More material= more money

I know theres good money runnin contaminated dirt. A big run is from New york city down to philly or other dump sites that take contaminated dirt. As long as you keep busy and go easy on the truck you should do alright. Would you buy a new truck or used?

That is one cool truck. That must be awesome pullin a load like that up those hills. That truck is built to pull.

Thanks for all the replys. I was just wondering how many people here just have trucks as a hobby and how many people drive/work on the them for a living. I plan on going to school in Lima, Ohio at northwestern ohio tech. So if theres anyone in the area I'll be out there in 2 years.
Thanks

Im just wondering how many people here either drive trucks for a living or are mechanics on trucks? Im 15 and I work for a diesel mechanic and thats what I plan to do when i get out of high school. What do all of you do for a living? I love being around trucks. Any time spent workin on or being under a truck is time well spent for me. One of our big customers has mostly macks which is nice. The oldest being a 96 RD and the newest being a brand new western star that didnt get delivered yet. You dont realise how well built macks are until you work on something else.

Every R model I see or hear of has a 6 speed twin stick in it. Did mack not like gears in the 80's? Did they put 10 15 20 speeds in these trucks or anything air split?

Thats got to be the best lookin picture ive seen in a while. If anybody asks me what truck i want I'll show them this picture. Good lookin truck, good looking trailer, good lookin equipment. Doesnt get much better than that. What model is that trackloader? My friend has a deere 440 that seems to be pretty uncommon. Are the machines restored or just painted? Either way they look great.

The switching over is the easy part. Its buying the new rims and tires that kill ya. Hubs are 300-400 bucks around here and you need 4. Aluminum rims are probobly near that and you need 8 unless you run steel inners. Then you have 8 new tires. Just make sure wheel nuts are torqued properly. Ive seen more axles hubs and bearings ruined by people with chisels tightening wheel nuts.

You want to work on computers? Im still in highschool and plan on being a diesel mechanic and i like being as far away from computers as i can be (exept when im on bigmacktrucks.com). I work weekends and my summer with a mechanic and all the computers seem to do is cause more trouble that their worth. The epa is the worst idea our government has ever come up with.

Cool pics but what a shame. That was a nice truck and its just completely totaled. The engine and trans are deffinatly shot but I wonder if the rears are any good yet? Or maybe that driveshaft was like a harpoon and tore them apart too. Like everyone says why do they blowup and crash test macks and not freight liners or internationals. Oh well the pics are cool.

I went to see the movie last night and it really was a funny movie. The people I went with thought I was nuts when i saw "mack" and didnt stop talkin about how they used a superliner in the movie. I didnt think the movie was going to be as good as it was. Larry the cable guy was a pisser in it. Everyone that went with me was into NASCAR including me so I think we got the movie more than anyone else in the theatar. We were laughin our @$$'s off at things when everyone else had no idea what was goin on. But thats because I live in Jersey and to people in Jersey NASCAR is just a bunch of stupid rednecks goin in circles all day.

What do the differnt numbers mean such as b-61 b-67 so on so forth. I read somewhere that odd numbers are Diesel and even are gas but other than that i have no idea.
Thanks
