General Motors Diesel pre Detroit Diesel with Gray Marine was a favorite for the U.S.Navy in small boats from my experience up to 100'in lenght. 6V-53in PBR's,12V-71's in Swift Boats and6-71's in about everything else small boat related worked well for the Brown Water Navy Boats. Biggest disaster I saw was 100' PGM's with 8- 6-71's,they were hooked 4 each to one shat 2 forward and 2 aft facing. Boats would go out with all 8 engnes running and sometimes only 4 on return.The U.S.Coast Guard used a lot of Cummins in their small63' WPG Patrol Boats. Joe D.

  2. Thanks Glenn. What was the application for a 16V-149 ? Is it a 2 stroke ? When I was in the Navy 1968 we had plenty of 53 and 71 Series Detroits in small boats. 16-278A was used for emergency generators on big ships and main propulsion for Destroyer Escorts and other small ships. Green Dash never thought about stickers being stuck on engine for cosmetic purposes.We ran Detroit,Cummins,Mack and later on a few Caterpillar all were pretty good the worst engine we ever had was a C-12 Cat it had good power,fuel economy but would develop head gasket problems on a regular basis.The 3406's we had were good.   3. Until you find exactly what you want go to hardware store and they should have a black or galvanized cap that you need. I did that for my missing one. You will not be able to use it on road as it will not have the lead inserts that melt. Joe D.

  4. I think the Mason-Dixon were B-67's with the hard nose radiator. A few other companies also used the hard nose B-67. I was told bigger radiator for cooling. There was one by me B-67 with hard nose 10 speed Roadranger from factory but it went missing awhile back. Joe D.

  5. Mike Latona does well pad work for the gas cdrilling companies.Pennsy Supply where I have my truck working did a lot of work for Latona and vice versa. I did do some work for Latona years back but now i stay with Pennsy, they treat me pretty good and have all the work I need so far.Northeastern Penna. is a bit different than other areas as you have to play ball.As you know Red Rock Quarry ships their material to quite a few States for landscaping material.   6. Macktrucks4 those are the newer ones that Popple has. He was still running some of the W900B with the flat hoods bringing coal down from simpson,Pa. to his breaker in Laflin,Pa. Tim I am unable to post pictures. When we get back to work in Spring I will try to get some. Maybe Macks can get some before. I think Popple is the last in my area that I know of to order trucks with spokes. Joe D.

  7. There is a company in Northeastern Penna. that runs a fleet of the T-800 B's with big power Popple Construction Laflin,Pa. They also own Red Rocl Quarry and some coal strip mines. I like the look of them with the big flat hood and set back axle. Another bonus on the Popple T-800 B's they run spoke wheels.They are silver colored with about 18-19 foot I think Ti-Brook aluminum bodies Joe D.

  8. I work for Pennsy Supply North Pittston,Penna. we are also part of the Old Castle conglomerate of companies.About all are company trucks are Peterbilt including low-boys. We still have some Mack water trucks and use DM600 and 800 for site work.They sold the last of the B-81's a few years ago. Joe D.
