  1. Vlad the yellow single axle could be an IH W-3042=L COE built in Emeryville,California non tilting cab. The one in center black and white photo is a IH W-4064-L COE. They were built in 1946 1947 according to the IH Truck Book by Fred W. Crimson. Joe D.

  2. Ernie when we bought a new Brockway in 1972 they had some spec. sheets advertising 8V-53 Detroits as an option. There was a W-9 KW for sale a few years back that had a 8V-53 in it.I asked why it was discontinued once and was told HP was overlapping 6-71 and 8V-71 Detroit. It made sense to me. There was a picture somewhere of a 12V-53 Detroit sitting outside a Detroit Diesel Garage or Distributorship somewhere.Joe D.

  3. Jim that looks like Tony Bullards Acar. Good looking Northeast style lowboy tractor. Single axle lowboy tractors were very popular and used in the Northeast part of U.S.until the mid 1980'S. Thanks Joe D.

  4. With 5.46 gears and 8LL trans your low gear reduction is 79.+. More than enough gradability and startability for your work.5.46 is not really a go fast ratio most likely around 60MPH without engine screaming. That torque rating of 1950 seems high for a Mack 427 but someone else will know for sure.I would think torque rating on a Mack 427 would be in the 1600 ft.lb. range. When in paver with asphalt light pressure on brakes just enough that you do not roll out of paver a big no no.If you are in a shoulder machine we chain our gate to open 5-6 inches. If you have high crowned roads like in Northeast,Penna. try to load near the ass of box if allowed.Pucker factor if nose is loaded heavy on high crowned roads. Good luck.Joe D..
