  1. That little tube you mention is the overflow tube. It should have a rubber hose attached to it and run alongside the radiator core to drip on the ground if too much coolant is in the system due to expansion. It is soldered in place and due to vibration, they can crack, or the brass/copper the radiator is made of can be in a state of weakening due to deterioration. Best to pull the radiator and take it to a shop to be repaired/recored.

The radiator is not difficult to remove after you remove the grille surround. If you remove your fender closing panels there are two cap screws, one per side close to the radiator shell the must be removed. There are then four capscrews across the top of the grille surround you remove next. Then remove the two bolts at the lower part of this shell across the front. The shell will then pull forward from the truck. You can then remove the eight large headed shoulder bolts that retain the radiator to the support but drain and remove the hoses from the cooling system before you do this. Have help when you go to pull the radiator from it's mounting as it is heavy and awkward to handle by ones lonesome.

On a fire truck you may have to remove the front bumper due to the diamond plate cover ontop of the bumper.

  2. I would be proud as punch to do it but, noboby wants to stay around long enough to help out. In fear of getting some on them I would guess. :D And further more Morgan and Rob was supposed to do a shifting video but I think Morgan was afraid Rob would fall off the hood of his truck while videoing......Can you see it.....Rob turned around back to back with the Mack Dog sniffing Rob's........well I hope ya got it so as I don't have to explain......maybe Rob was afraid of the BullDog on the hood. I just can't imagine why no action has been pursued yet?

I'll try an do better!!! B)

Ok Ok... I will get on this. and I don't think Rob makes a good hood orniment. The hood could be severly deformed by his girth in the wrong places.

As for restoration pictures and videos.. I take several pictures as I restore and work on trucks.. but I never felt that they would be worth sharing with anyone.. also it takes me some time to download pictures and such to the website.

  3. Well I was concerned when Rob told me that he was not using his "choice cut's" as the seasoning and ageing process will compensate. He was interrested in some sherews that my dog had dug up as they are not normaly found in Farmington. Actually, The chilli was his famous truckers blend. It has the oppisite effect I haven't had a "movement" yet!!! No stopping for trivial things like poop break's while on the hyway.

  4. I don't know if I have ever seen a b83 with budd wheels. I think you are already ahead of the game if you keep it the way it is now. The cost of a hub swap to budd wheels could be spent elswhere in the restoration. If you are like me I have to watch my cash input in my projects. Do you have 22 inch rims now or are the 24 inch rims?

  5. Very nice find, Fred!

I see it has the 2 stick 6 speed, must have pulled a trailer dump or lowboy.

Regarding that video, do you have a "Photobucket" account?

That's how I do it, just upload the video to photobucket, then copy and paste the link to the video in your post here, and to view you just click on the picture.

    Example:

Looking forward to seeing that once you get it posted.

    HI,

I cant seem to get it from the camera to the computer.. I can finalise the disc and put it on the comuter but there should be a way to get it from the camcorder to the PC via a cord or wire. I will have to take the time and try again.

Thanks for the kind words on the r 795. Due to the length and low hole trans and appers that it had a winch on it at one time I would say you are right on the money. I appers to have been taken care of most of its life but I think it had changed owners and didn't get the care it had before. The only reason I bought it was it was about ready to be sold to the people that send trucks to mexico and south america. I would say that It would have been parted out and junked because it needs some engine work, steering box and wiring repairs. I think I will fix the engine, steering and wiring and make someone a nice truck to enjoy fixing up, I have too many as it is. I just couldn't bear to see it junked.. I guess I have been listening to superdogs preachings from the book of mack!

  6. Well Fred did say you and he were going to mack video of the shifting of the B.......so I guess you will be invited to see this new member of Fred's family...... right ?

    mike

I made that video and never can figure out how to get it from the camera to the computer. I will have to try harder.

  7. Hey I thought I would post a picture or two of my newest truck, r797, 1973 model. Not to bad, need to repair one head due to a bad guide causing excesive blow by( note the custom road draft tube) After a valve adjustment the engine ran very well. I hope to have it lined out for the White River show in Elnora Indiana. Fred

  8. The cascade works great for blown oil coolers, it will bring the oil right to the top of the cooling system. For the most nasty cooling system problems I use muratic acid, It has not caused any problems in any systems I used it in. Make sure to use lots of water to flush with afterwords. I use about 1 gallon to a normal semi cooling system. It will really clean the scale out of the radiator, becareful to not leave in there to long I don't know what would happen about 1 hour is what I do with the engine warm, cap off to make sure no pressure build up.

  9. I got you covered, how many you need? you get to take the crappy tires that are on them though.

Anybody 1/2 way close have any 20", 5 hand hole, steel Budd wheels laying around they don't need? I've got three aluminum on my RL that are corroded almost through and the tires are good on them.

    Thanks,

    Rob

  10. With all the injectors physically out of the engine?

    Rob

It sure will , It will fire one the cylinder you are checking, The oil is the fuel source and the compression is restored by installing the gauge. The istructor at diesel school has a compression gauge with the hose blown to bits and the gauge face all screwed up and he said thats what happens. He said the the flex hose kinda stood straight up like a snake and then poof. I would have never thought it would have done it, but it makes sence.

  11. I have a old r-600 truck, It originaly had a mack 6 cylinder, I was wondering how much work is it to change to a cummins engine? I just happen to have a cummins 270 laying around and thought I could wring the last bit of life out of both the truck and the engine. Thanks

  12. Hi,

I think if you was to go back a few months on this forum there was a mechanic that was a v8 mack guru.. I can't remember how long it was though, posible that someone could rember who it was or he would come forward. Are you only going for only the e-9 engine or are you starting with a history on the v-8s from the b-model years, through their evolution?

    B61 fred

p.s. nice to talk with you at macungie... would have loved to see the b80 series truck up close..... may be someday.

  13. after a very nice Friday, the weather turned off wet, we still got a picture of the gang on bmt. although not a good showing due to the downpour, so here it is.

  14. Hello everybody,

It looks to be a nice day at Macungie, we are headed out to the show and I hope to have some pictures for you tonight, weather looks good today but saturday not so much. Thunderstorms likely.... crap.....Oh well, I will still be there and little b61joe has his mack shirt to model for the group picture. Going out to have some fun now, see you later. Fred

  15. Hey,

I have found a jake brake set up in arizona for a 220 cummins, The thing weighs like 200 lbs. with all the stuff that goes with it. I am not in a big hurry for it but I don't want to pay a fortune for these things. I had a auxiliery transmission shipped by fed-ex from indiana to north dakota. It weighed 375 lbs and it cost 400 bucks to ship it by Fed-ex. I would think there is a better solution.

    need some help
