  1. Well Rob,

I know you have drove my f350 with a HEAVY load on it. I think all the little trucks with diesels are fairly well designed, I like the ford 4x4 because the front axle is solid, the chevy is well... not. And if you put the two trucks on a set of scales you will find the Ford to be quite a bit heavier. For a work horse I recommend a Ford. The 6.0 can be a good engine and the auto is an awesome trans. The 6.0 needs a few fixes for superior reliability.

  2. So help me out. I'm new to this as I moving up from collecting cars. I was looking at this truck online. I'm concerned about the gas engine having too little power/torque. I've read the specs. How bad is it compared to having the thermodyne?

The Gas engine trucks would have much lower gear ratios, the advantage was to use the gas engines much wider power band and wind up the engine and use the power that was available with the higher revs compaired to the diesels. 9.00 to 1 ratio rears were common with the b 42's. and that truck with a tandem would really soak up the horseppower. Most gassers would travel about 50 mph to 55 max. not all but most. now if it had a 707 mack gasser, she would run with the big boys at the time it was built. pass anything but a gas station!

  3. I would like to attend. I can get to Bloomfield but need directions to your place. What can I bring for the pitch in dinner & what time will things start? ED.

The Bloomfield you want is zip 47424. It is approx 60 miles SW of Indy. From Bloomfield go north on Hwy.157 about 3 1/2 miles. Look for all the trucks in the front yard. Bring anything you like. We will start eating at 5:30 but the trucks and stuff will be there all afternoon. Hope to see you.

  5. I would like to recommend an 5 speed main box, like the ones in the R models, and then add a spicer 12000 series auxiliary trans. That way she will take all you throw at it. You would have some choices to make on the engine. The Injection pump on a low torque rise engine is set up different than that of thermodine engine. Also you would get a big double disc clutch with the 5 speed box. Just an idea.....

  6. Rob, I feel that this is normal, I have always used the clutch brake only as a way to slow down the input shaft while sitting still. I guess I am trying to say is it is adjusted correctly. during operation I just tap the clutch brake to stop it for a moment and then as it releases, and the input just starts to spin from the drag of the clutch disks I will drop it into gear. This will become easier as the clutch drag become less as it breaks in.

It starts on Thursday and ends Sunday, bring a tent, and golf carts welcome, Some camper spaces are still available. Check out the antique show web site at www.wrvaa.org Lots to do and see other than normal truck show activities. Saturday is the best truck show day. 8. I would have to think about this kinda hard. On one hand I am in the tight-wad camp with Mike, but on the other hand if this tire would blow out will it take out some other stuff like fuel tanks, quarter fenders, steps, back cab windows, ect. If this was on a trailer I would use it, If it was on a truck that you use on occasion or sits around then keep it on. If you plan to drive several miles to a show find better.

  9. Rob..... You will have to get the baby some of those Mack onesy things in pink that say intake on the front and exhaust on the back. Sorry... They dont come adult size though. Thought I might postpone the trip to your place after reading your post on Firday.. Figured you might be a little busy.

  10. Hi,

I talked with some guys out in Calf. that is all they do is sound proofing. The info I recieved from them to fix the shifter boot problem is to use closed cell foam chunks on top of your trans between the floor, the more the better. I have noticed that alot of the diesel pickups that are sticks have a giant foam block ontop of the trans, and if you leave it out it is load a all get out.

  11. I believe it to be a fleetstar, You could have your coice of cab in the begining of production. It also has the optional tilt hood. If equiped with a cummins engine the majority of the engine was in the cab with you. The Loadstars were a smaller truck and the largest one is a 1890 or 1895. If the truck is a 1900 or biggger it should be a fleetstar. I can always tell a fleetstar from a loadstar by the body line on the cab, The bodyline drops down hard on the cowl panel to match the cab belt line. The loadstar cab is much lower and this line is less destinct. You can see it clearly on the pictures of the four trucks on the previous post, three fleetstars and one loadstar.

  12. Sorry guys about the late reply, Started backing trough my old posts and for some reason they didn't update,

Thats the truck, I will get some more pictures up soon.

If I was to change my "handle" to superliner fred.... I think aunt "b" would get jelous! Although the old "b" has been getting a bit sassy lately. Need another truck around that I can take to a show or two to keep her in her place you know. I think I will keep the same handle though.

  13. Hi,

I need some info about the superliner/cummins motor mounts. My superliner originaly was equiped with a 6 cyl mack and has been converted to a 855 cummins. Who ever did this didn't quite have the front mount right. I think that I need a different front engine mount that is part of the front crossmember. The bolt holes don't line up and it needs to be slightly more forward. If you have one to sell let me know.

  14. I was happy to see that it had the 1100 FT/LB torque rating, I know of some cummins with the 900FT/LB rating trans. The forward control is what the f stnds for. It looks like the the opening for the gear shift is lever is farther forward than that of what was in it when new. It sure does move out in high gear though. The shift patern is a little different too... 9th and 10th (4th and 5th also) are flip-floped. I think someone might have switched something around inside to make it a overdrive, I assume it is possible. I wouldn't think that the patern would be that way in truck this new would it?

  15. Hi all,

Crawled under the new to me superliner this week end for a closer look at a few items. I was looking at the transmission and got some numbers off of the unit. I know this is not the original trans for the truck but it is quiet and shifts good. Now on to the detective part.... The tag has been scratched to the point that some of the letters are no longer visible. I think that it says RTF1110 I have never heared of the RTF trans. Any ideas abot this trans or if the F part of the number could be something else?

  16. Hey,

I boldly steped into the 80's! Due to increasing family pressure to get a truck that has a bunk and a little more comfortable to drive, I found a 82 superliner. I dont have any pictures yet but will soon. The truck is a rwl788. It has a cummins diesel beleived to be a 400(cpl tag gone), 9 speed trans, mack 4.17 ratio rears on a mack E-Z ride under slung springs. According to my research the truck had a e-6 mack when new but they did a decent job installing the cummins. When you live this close to Columbus IN and half your family works at Cummins it's not a bad thing. I found the trans must have been worked on also the two top gears have changed position, 8th and 9th have switched places on the shift pattern. I would suspect that the gears have been changed in the trans for a taller overdrive gearing. Its on 24.5 rubber and it goes down the road faster than I would like to go in my b-model. The cab and doghouse are a little rough, but not to the point of not being able to repair. I will have to get Rob to help me out in that department. b61mack a.k.a. Ron Bogan has some parts it will surely need so I will have to get up his way soon. I would like to put external aircleaners on this truck, I have seen it done on superliner II's but was it an option on the I's? I will get them pictures up soon!

  17. Well the true sound maker was the 275 cummins with the super charger, The cam is slightly different in the 275 vs. 290,300,320 hp versions. I think it might be reffered to as a thumper cam. The superchaged engines have no restriction on the exhaust, the turbo engines have the turbo to muffle the sound. The 200,220,and 250's can be fitted with a rear drop, and sound very good, but the King is the supercharger engines. The supercharged engines also have a lower compression ratio than that of thier naturaly asperated brotheren, with the efect of the pressure fed intake makes more bark noise.
