  1. The photos aren't 6x6's i was just trying to show what the Body looked like and what the wheels n tires looked like . . .

It was an RD's Body for sure no mistaking that and it sat up high enough to see that it was a 6x6 for sure.

So then if the RMM and the DMM are the only 2 factory 6x6's then it was a conversion or an old truck with a new CAB.

    Mike

  2. Is it possible the truck I saw was an RD 6x4 to 6x6 conversion ?

    Or

Dose a 6x6 RD semi tractor truck exist ?

The truck i saw had the wheels n tires of the Red truck on a truck like the yellow truck only it was a 6x6 there was a front diff and drive shaft.

As the front axle being a drive axle caught my eye and attracted my attention to it . . .

    Edit:

I was park sitting in traffic next to this for a bit of time but some of the traffic in my lane was moving ahead as they were turning so i slowly kept having to creep forward so i didn't have much time to catch a model number. . .

I do know when the light turned green i ran threw my first 3 gears hitting 4th and he went from 2 or3 car lengths behind my B61T to tail lights

So what ever Model it was it moved truck, trailer n D9 cat crawler up to speed rather rapidly :SMOKIE-LFT:

  3. Ok I was able to do a quick google search and I found 2 similar rigs to the one I saw it appears the body is that of the RD688...

I found 1 tractor only on Dayton wheels which looks identical to the rig I saw and a long wheel based cab n chassie truck with the bud wheels and larger tires that the tractor had...

I can't seem to post photos from my phone but I will once I get home.

Is it possible the truck I saw was an RD 6x4 to 6x6 conversion ?

    Or

Old rolling chassie with newer body ?

    Or

Dose a 6x6 RD semi tractor truck exist ?

    Mike

  4. Really ? I can't seem to find any of them. . .

Just wondering what the newer 6x6's look like i happened to be sitting next to a 6x6 Mack truck tractor looked like an late model R Mack say in the 98-02 year range it was slightly taller then the 6x4 truck but nothing to crazy. . .

It had a low boy trailer on it loaded with a D9 Cat crawler, I happpend to meet him coming up to a red stop n go light i was dragging Goose Neck loaded with Bobcat skidder's S-160 T-190 and 763 with my B61T so it could have been taller but it wasn't but a few inches taller then my truck tho i got them huge 12.00-24's on my B61 :SMOKIE-LFT:

  5. Really they are offering the Mil-spec Granite Rig in a 6x6 ?

    or

they using an older unit ?

I swear i just saw a modern looking R-model ish Mack 6x6 semi tractor pulling a lowboy, maybe it was a cement truck conversion to fifth wheel tractor ?

    Mike

  6. I'm guessing the reason you need to use the 673's pan is the 675's pan is too deep ?

you sure you couldn't fudge the 2inches of clearance from some place else ?

    edit:

I'm in the process of tracking down and M52a1 army 5ton 6x6 semi tractor which is powered by the same 673 i am planning on swapping either the 675=237hp 676=300hp E6=350hp :mack1: engines, and if this happens to me i am going to try and gain the clearances need from another location rather then go messing with the crank case :thumb:

    Mike

  7. I'll more then likely go with the Mack T2070 trans just to keep it :mack1: Powered and :mack1: driven :thumb:

Depending which engine they give me the best deal on when it come time to buy will be the one i use . a 237 is all i need a 350 is what i want so i may compromise and go for the 300 !

But the 237, 300 or 350 any one of them 3 should do the job perfectly well. . .

    :SMOKIE-RT: Mike :SMOKIE-LFT:

  8. the trouble is the only gearing option you have is 6.44's. i was going to simply swap the 11.00-20's for 11R24.5's which will give you about 5-7mph gain on the cruising speed more or less truck prolly won't run faster then 55-57mph maxed out in OD, it'll be toy just has to be tough enough to pull the slightly larger tires and push the empty tractor around...

The Spicer 5spd-OD has to be good to at least the 800tq as it the same transmission used by the 855 Cummins which had 3 rating during the it's use in front of the 5spd-OD which was 240hp n 680tq / 250hp n 735tq / 260hp n 800tq. . .

this same 5spd-OD came behind: 855 Cummins 673 Mack 465 Multifuel.

I want add some power yes but i was hopping to keep as close to original "looking" as possible Mack engine, i am thinking the ENDT675 would be the ideal option for this as it can be simply swapped in place of the ENDT673 :thumb: .

I was simply trying to be greedy by trying to stuff the 350 mack into this low geared truck but i'm sure the 237 Mack will be more then enough

    Mike

  9. I'm sure he was thinking the "deuce and a half" these are not a deuce i assure you. . . there is plenty of room for a 300 or 350 Mack, I wasn't sure as to how hard one could push the interchangeability of the 673 with 675 676 E6 aka 237-350 ?

would the 350hp Mack handle the Spicer 5spd-OD trans ?

    or

would the 7spd Mack trans have to be used ?

is the 7spd-Mack an Overdrive trans ?

  10. I would think there would be no problem whatsoever.

The 237 would be a bolt in swap as it's the same block as the ENDT673, you'd just have to swap any different accessories off your old motor onto it, such as flywheel & clutch, maybe the crank pulleys , water pump etc., as there were different length water pumps on various applications.

Regarding the reason for the Spicer 5 speed in that truck: Most of those Spicer 5 speeds were synchromesh. Perhaps they used those in military trucks since the average soldier may not be a professional truck driver, and the synchro transmission would not require special skill to shift, compared to the unsynchronized Mack transmissions.

    .

Now isn't the 300 n 350 horse power units also able to pull the spicer 5spd-OD ?

If they can fit an 855 cummins wouldn't the ENDT676 350hp unit fit ?

    Edit:

On second thought the 237 should be just fine on the spicer 5spd OD as I'm going from a 200hp n 600tq motor to a 237hp n 900tq motor the 250 cummins only had 800tq so I would be at about max power for the trans anyhow...

    Mike

  11. Good stuff thanks for the info :SMOKIE-LFT:

Tho i was also planning on swapping out the 11.00-20's for 11R24.5's which will bolt right up and clear perfectly, which would then get away from a split rim tube type tire no stock's but can special order to a tire that most truck shops have in stock plus it gains me 5-7mph in max road speed which helps on a 50mph. . .

Now will the 237 be able to pull the 2.5 inch taller tires with 6.44;1 gears and 5 forward speeds ?
