I just read a real good article in a magazine called Heavy Duty Trucking, about different factors that take their toll on tires. The main point of the article was that it is not the age of the tire, but it's overall condition, maintence history, inflation history that decide how long it is going to run. I always seem to get into arguements over recaps. They will run as long as anything else, if they are taken care of properly. The key thing to remeber is Proper Inflation.

I remember back in first grade, there was a kid in class whose dad drove for a freight outfit. His dad conned a case of Alf folders out of the company that printed them. Everyone in class got one. Pretty cool way back then. Brad

This is the best news to come down the pike in a long time. If you are from Illinois call the govonor and tell him to sign this bill!! Thanks,Brad

I guess it is good that we have a uniform speed limit, but I would have a uniform wieght law. The fact that there are state roads that you can not haul 80,000# down is crazy, because we (trucking industry) are paying for them.

Thanks for the kind words.....I will not be on the road in that truck this year, as I have had to go into dispatch for the season. For the time being it is parked in my shed. Thanks, Brad

I am 27. I have 3 kids, all boys(4,3,7 months). I couldn't find any "before pics of my truck, but I did have an "after". The other pic is of my 2 oldest, and myself out at Wolcott last summer.

There is guy in Florida that advertises on Truck Paper, that still gets them. I talked to him about it the other day, and he said that it is getting harder and harder to them. He can only really get Heavy front end Granites, set up for V-Mac III. He told me that Kenworth will work with you more. I then talked to my Mack guy(also handles KW's), and he is looking into it for me.

Good report! I have been saying that for years. My opinion is that about 90% of your tire failures can be traced back to the driver. Drivers tend to disagree and blame it on "those damn retreads!" Brad

We are based out of Northern Illinois area. We have been running B11 in our trucks for 2 years. We have all Macks, ranging in years from 1976 to 2006. We have not had any problems at all with it. In the winter we do back it down to 2% and run a winter blend. Thanks, Brad

This comes after our tolls went up 300% 4 years ago. Welcome to the Peoples Republic of Illinois!

I heard that the engine will be one of International's MAXXFORCE engines. Brad

I was telling one of our drivers that Cat would not be building truck engines any more, and I thought he was gonna cry! There goes his dream of a Kitty Kat under the hood of a 379. Poor guys dreams are shattered. Brad

Granite Fan.... Are you not going to vote for any Republicans, because you are not voting at all??? Most people consider myself to be a republican, but I don't. I told a survey lady on the phone the other night that I am a Conservitive first, Republican second. She told me that, that was not an option for the survey. I do not understand what is wrong with upholding strong ethics, strong morals, fiscal responsibility, individual liberties, and the Constitution that gives our government it's foundation. thanks, Brad
P.S. Check out our home made signs...

The visor on my RD came from JP chrome. It is a decent visor, but I asked when I ordered it if it had the same amount of drop as does the CH visor. They said it did, but it does not. Check it out in my Gallery. There also is a guy in Michigan that will custom build stainless visors. Hope this helps. Thanks, Brad

My Dad had Double Eagle "recondition" a 36" for his 87' R model, and had them install it. The seal you are speaking of only lasted a few years, and they were of no help in coming up with a replacement one. We thought that bellows type would be best , but we could not find one the right size. The quality of their "recondition" was piss poor. They forgot about all the sleepers they put on R models back in the day. It seems to me they only want to deal with show trucks. Thanks, Brad

My dad had one in a Crusie Liner back in the day. Multi speed reverse, spiltable gears. He really liked it. I haven't seen one since. I think it would be a fine trans for behind 237. Brad

Trent, He did just fine. I thanked him for helping us out, and he thanked me because he had never driven a B' before. So everyone was a winner. later, Brad
Got Some New Tires:
in Odds and Ends

Rowdey Rebel... All of the links you posted deal with Passenger/ light truck tires. That is alot like comparing apples and oranges. Modern commercial truck tires casings can make 1 million miles with proper care. In our situation, we have a lot of drivers who will never see virgins on the tractor or the trailer due to thier record of wrecked tires and blow outs. On the other hand we also have drivers that get nothing but virgins all the way around. If I was a one man band I would have virgins all around, because I would know the history of care.
