  1. It is a Louisville, I have to check when the title comes, but it looks like a 96/97 ish year, deep frame, 165,000 miles with one driver, Rex mixer with front pump, no booster axle, 8.3 cummins factory replaced 40,000 miles ago, 13 speed, double locking rears, very straight and clean, rear tires just okay - say 30%. Does that read like a used car salesman would type it? I did not think to check what size mixer it is.

I buy these from a local company that maintain everything at the dealership. They also have four or five larger mixers on IHC paystars they want to sell me once they wear the tires down - I never get a break.

My big idea was to find a used Jerrdann or similar machinery rollback bed to install on one, but I have not found a bed, and I would rather spend the time on a Mack. I have found that these trucks are in good enough shape to sell to other concrete companies with the mixer intact.

I sold three of them last year to feed/fertilizer companies that use the mixers stationary.

"That's right boys, this here mixer has only ever been run on days that end in Y. It can and will mix up anything that you put in it. ". I think you should add that to your sales speech. -Brad

  2. Agreed! I bought a real nice (is there such a thing?) 1996 Ford concrete truck last week and I had to buy a set of 425's for the steer axle just to get it home. If the rears had needed tires, it would have cost more than the truck did! Tires are getting to be the deciding factor of when several of the concrete companies around here decide to get rid of their older trucks.

We looked at that when buying the mixers for our plant. Those 425's are not cheap. Is your Ford a Louisville? I don't think those are the worst kind of truck to have. What type of mixer is on it? - Brad

  3. We just purchased a new to us wheel loader from a small excavator in the southern suburbs. Has been in business for 50 plus years. Since late 07' things have just been sliding downward. This was going to be the third year in a row that he was gonna take the money out of his pocket, loan it to the company, and hope he can make it back. He decided that at 76 years old, it probably would not be smart to try to wait this thing out. It was down to him and his nephews, they are in their late 50's/ early 60's. They are union, an operator cost him $75 an hour with benefits, and a teamster was $72 an hour with benefits. Now, I know that the going rate for a semi tractor with a dump trailer goes anywhere from $70-$100 an hour, you can't fuel, plate, insure and maintain a truck on $28 an hour. These are not the type of guys that helped get this country into the itis in. Thier equipment and trucks were very modest, and they didn't have anything that they really didn't need. They didn't help get us into this trouble, but they sure are feeling the effects. Really sad. -Brad

  4. And if you don't wind up with it Brad, I might be able to make so room down here for it. By the way, is the loft still open in the barn? If I buy another truck, I'll need it.

Rob, I forgot to mention that we could make room for you over here. Problem is, we would put you to work. -Brad

I have come to the conclusion that I can not drive every sweet ass R-model I come across. I would like to try too. This truck has an EM-7 300hp, Fuller 13 speed, on Mack rears with the older hendrickson style air ride. It also has air ride cab. The real cool thing is that it is set up with an air start. Very un molested truck. I also like the fact that it is an 81' year model, because I am also an 81' year model. I did noy talk to the gentleman that owns it, and he does not have his number on the for sale sign in the window. I do know that the truck was still on the road in March, because he was runnning the same route as we were at that time. -Brad

  6. Why doesn't Mack offer a powered glider with a re-man 98-02 Etech engine?I think they are missing the boat, big time.

Ditto! We have been kicking around the idea of a Pete rolling chasis. I just really do not want a Pete. We have also been talking about bringing in one of our 95' CH's and doing a refurb on it. The idea there would be if it can be taken off the truck then it should be replaced. All mounts, hoses, valves, wiring harnesses, rubbers, fuse panal, overhaul motor, rebush front and rear susp., new paint, replace worn interior parts, get rid of ball and seat wheels and replace with unimounts. The truck we would start with has 1,200,000 miles on it and has not had the motor overhauled and averages 6 MPG. A lil better than our 06' Granites that average 4.5 MPG just a thought. -Brad
