  1. Naw, she turned it off in and we had a long distance coffee "date".

Ya know, 31 years being married to that girl and I still enjoy her company.

    Rob

Mr. Romantic, that is a rare thing with these young people, seems like they when things get tough they want to bailout and get divorced. What happened to sticking it out and making it work? Oh hell I'm still a young guy myself but me and my fiance don't believe in divorce and get along just great! Couldn't ask for a better person to be with if I say so myself! :D

  2. I seen something I thought pretty neat this afternoon running around in OKC. There is a large freight yard belonging to US Express that they run bright red tractors that have been increasingly Volvo dominated. Today there were about 75 Volvo tractors with the corporate names stripped off and at least that many brand new Mack tractors that were as of yet unlettered.

    Kinda nice to see that.

    Rob

Did I just read that right? US Xpress is giving up Volvo for Mack? Are they giving up them Junkliners too? :P

  3. I actually watch a sermon every Sunday morning after making breakfast with my wife. THis pastor I kinda like cause he doesn't judge the depth of your faith by the generosity of your pocketbook. Since I'm away at technical training at OKC, I called her this morning to ensure she did not miss it and guess what; It was overridden by tennis on the airwaves. Now I don't know about the rest of you guys but any game that has two male individuals playing with each other, and LOVE is any part of the game/score, I don't need no part of.

    Rob

Sounds like to me she said "Since Robert ain't home I'll watch whatever I want this Sunday morning!"

  4. Damn, now I don't have to get out the poduim, nor purchase the air time, nor reserve the space to deliver my speech that will accomplish nothing in a great span of time.

The only negative impact is that I cannot further my own agenda.

Well shit. Now I gotta find something else to do on the Sunday morning.

    Rob

    Church brother, church! :D

  5. OK, you're starting off- 1st. in main, lo split in compound-shift compound to direct, then to hi split. Next shift main to second, then compound back to lo split ( we're talking Mack here, triplex or quadruplex, otherwise think of it as under-direct-over ), direct, hi split. Next shift is main to 3rd, then compound back to lo split, then direct, then hi split, then main to 4th, compound to lo-split, direct, hi-split, then main to 5th. Like Herb said... Now you're in the "big hole". Carry all your 170 horsepowers on down the road...

Thank you, I finally figured it out I think. :P

  6. No, Larry, you use the compound to split each of the 5 main gears.

    For example:

Start off in 1st lo split, then shift compound to direct, then shift compound to hi split, then upshift main to 2nd, downshift compound to lo split, then direct, then hi split, upshift main to 3rd, downshift compound to lo split.....and so on, all the way to 5th hi split, with the exception that if it's a double overdrive quad box or triplex, then once you're in 4th hi split, you just shift into 5th hi split.

Huh????? I'm totally lost!:wacko: It's better if I was shown in person, then I can get the concept of it! B)

  7. I wonder how many of these new school steering wheel holders can drive a twin stick? I know I would LOVE to drive one as long no one records it and puts it on youtube. It looks complicated but it can't be that hard! Just shift the 1st 5 and then put both sticks in neutral shift the auxiliary into direct and then the main stick back into 1st and do it all over again right?

  8. I recently took my first trip over the Rockies and into Spokane, WA. I had never travelled that far west before. I have studied trucking history so I was not surprised at the lack of :mack1: out west. Just regional preferences based on location of manufacture, I suppose. KW's and PETE's were originated on the west coast and still maintain popularity there. In more recent times, Mack has not had a big power engine to compete in the western mountain markets.

It was also interesting to me to see the different trailer and wheelbase configurations in various areas of our country, such as Rocky Mt. doubles and triples, and truck/ full trailer combos. Quite a few cabover trucks still in use as well, probably due to the longer trailers.

:mack1: err I mean Volvo now has the big power to compete with CAT getting out the market. :mack1: may not be a fancy truck but a work truck, I rather have me a work truck over a fancy truck any day!

  9. Once again the thread has been hijacked and steered hard into the ditch. Now I will attempt a corrective manouver and get back onto the original course, that being the business of welcoming Larry to the forums. These guys may try to steer you in a bad direction sometimes, you just gotta be aware. So far I think you'll be OK; you got past that Mack / Freightliner debate early in your career. That shows tremendous common sense unwavered by general consensus. :thumb:

    :WELCOME:

    Gregg

I noticed that and I tend to hijack some threads myself. Common sense is lacking these days!

  10. welcome to the group....There seems to be a anti- peterbilt sentiment here.. If you haven't picked up on it yet,Haha....

    Fred

I been around Freightliner's, Peterbilt's, and Mack's. Peterbilt can brag about quality and Freightliner about fuel mileage but you get the best of both world's with Mack! I compared the interior of a 99 Mack to the same year Freightliner and Peterbilt. My findings was that the Mack held up a hell of a lot better, didn't show any wear and tear besides the seat and is a hell of a lot easier to detail!

  11. Yup. That danged ole Other Dog is guilty of adding to that dilemma too.

I'm sure he hates it as much as you do, but a guy has to make a livin someway; no matter how low they must stoop; Even by driving a Pete.

    Rob

Ain't that the truth, but I'm about being different and when time comes to start my business it'll be all :mack1: and I was into a truck of another make then I jumped into that ole CH and I called myself crazy for liking that other junk.

  12. :WELCOME: We were hauling piling from Va. to Conoco-Philips in Roxana for a long time, all spring, but I guess it's over with. Hopefully they're just driving some of what they had on the ground and they'll need more later. Things are kinda slow now.

I don't remember seeing any F.L. Moore trucks out here, there is a lot of Arrow trucks out here hauling stuff in. They are making a lot of progress and what makes me sad is not one Mack is doing any of the heavy hauling, it's all Peterbilt! Oh yeah thank ya for the welcome! :D

  13. Where do I even begin, Name is Larry, I was raised around trucks my whole life mostly Mack's and Freightliner's but I'm a Mack man through and through. Rode in a 69 R model, 80's Superliner, several CH's, and a then new 03 Mack Vision when the old man drove for Beelman (CH's and Vision's were Beelman trucks). I worked at a local petroleum outfit in the shop and they only have one Mack CH in the fleet and drove that around the yard a few times, that had a Mack 10spd with the E-7 427. As of right now I'm waiting to start college to get my associates in management and from there I want to buy my own truck ( :mack1: ) and go into business for myself doing some local/regional/otr work. :D
