  1. Being there were no batteries to maintain what powered the lights on these trucks, solar power?

    Ron

Sorry about that --just couldn't resist!!!!

Probably just a cheap 12V battery. If I remember correctly, the trucks were only shut down on weekends. Most of the OTR trucks were "slip seated". Trucks don't earn any revenue if they are sitting. The local trucks were Ford C-Series with Cat 3208 engine and Allision transmission.

  2. Dave and Doug,

I don't remember (old age - my excuse)...What is the schedule (and times) for Friday afternoon/evening? Can I register on Friday? I am planning to be in the area around noon on Friday. I am staying at the Rodeway Inn in Akron.

Anyone up for breakfast at Lititz Family Cupboard (close to Gerhart's) on Saturday morning (around 6:30a)?

  3. Roadway's VP of Maintenance Don Dawson (RIP) was a forward thinking no-frills person. He knew what "made money" and what did not. He was one of the first to "recycle" oil. He plumbed a small line from the engine oil gallery into the fuel tank. They never had to change oil, just add oil and change the oil filter. There was no fuel gauge in the trucks. He knew how much fuel was needed to get from terminal to terminal and spec'd the fuel tank size accordingly (less dead weight, more payload). Air starters...no batteries to maintain.

  4. Must be they cleaned it real good, I dont see no oil.

Vinny...I don't see any oil (double negative). What are they teaching you in school?

Maybe the engines are just for show and don't run so there is no oil in them, hence no leaks. :D

  5. I also look forward to seeing "the pictures of the week" like the babe crossing the street, and the Marmon, always liked that model................................................Mark

always liked that model...are you talking babe or truck or both? :whistling:
