  1. I was right, it's a small granite and yes it's with a cummins :(

Shhhhhhhh, loose lips sink ships tongue.gif

A small granite would look very much like the Australian Metroliner, a short BBC (~108") Mack powered by either a Cummins ISC or ISL. They are light weight and popular as mixers down there.\

I hope the new truck is one of the following:

"Metroliner" -Compete with PB and KW in the premium medium duty class 7/8 market.

Superliner - who doesn't want to see this one come back?

Big power Vision.... er, I mean pinnacle axle back - Lengthen the hood and drop an MP10 in it.

  2. I think the last CL with an E9 is in Hagerstown at the powertrain plant. It is equipped with V-MAC technology and everthing about it is computer controlled. Many people have tried to buy it but as far as I know it's still there. I have been told that the E9 was going to make a come back in 2003, it was beating the six bangers in fuel economy on the test stands and conforming to all the EPA standards but the Volvo purchase took place in 2002 and the E9 program was canned to make way for the MP-10/D-16 engine.

Makes you feel a little sick knowing it was close to a comeback. I believe the V-MAC E9's were available in Australia and Europe.

  3. That's not fair, now you have 2 and I don't have any!! I went up to Cairo NY last weekend to look at the 71 F785ST but too much work for me. Well good luck with your addition and maybe oneday I'll stop in to see you. :(:(

I have seen that Blue F on Old Mack's site and it looks like its in great shape. I am just curious as to why you believe its too much work. Do you see any major problems?

  4. hello I have pictures off the mack standing next to the volvo. post-5263-0-00326300-1298308657_thumb.jppost-5263-0-25590300-1298308676_thumb.jp

OH man your killing me here! You are sooooo very lucky to find that truck, only 44 F8956's were made. Now I just NEED to find out what happened to the other 43 :D. I dont want an F model, I NEED one! And I would like it to be as unique as your F is.

I really like the picture of the Mack helping (or is it pulling LOL) the Volvo along with its its modular trailer and transformer load. Great history you have on that truck.

  5. Don't worry Leon, I got you covered :thumb:

How are you going to load a truck? Looks like a fixed neck and a high frame over the rear axle.

Even though this is a model, it clearly shows how this type of trailer is actually loaded.

  6. Just the other day I was thinking about how to recreate a classic Mack look using a CH or similar truck. Remove the hood and bumper, then build up from there. Fabricate a radiator shell, metal hood and fenders. Then top it off with an old school bumper, head lights and few bits of chrome trimming. It could turn out pretty good. Should also have spokes to complete the look.

  7. here are some pictures of the semy i`m working on.post-1715-0-31240000-1298230542_thumb.jppost-1715-0-64117700-1298230572_thumb.jppost-1715-0-70442400-1298230593_thumb.jp

    i hope you like them.

    mack4ever.

Nice looking trailer, what year is that Nooteboom? Looking good so far, you need to post pictures of it hooked to a truck with a load on her.

  8. Ok I watched this and have to ask, How does the transfer box get into the dump body when loaded?

Also, what keeps the transfer box inside when dumping?

Trucks should have a load to get real time. Unless they spread driveways that way.

They straiten out, unhook the trailer and back up over the draw-bar (thats why their draw bars are so low.), then unlock the transfer box and it rolls into the main box. There is a locking mechanism that keeps the box inside.

Supposedly they are good for operating on sites that are too difficult to navigate with a dump trailer. There are even doubles so you have a dump pulling two transfer trailers. Quite a sight.

  9. Puerto Rico might as well be the 51st state. The dollar is their currency, you can travel to and from without a passport, its like crossing a state line. Puertoricans are US citizens and can come and go as they please and they can be drafted during war time. Their local government operates like that of any other state.

It really is another state but they just dont want to mess up the evenness of our great flag. Where the hell would the 51st star go?

Check out this article for more of our past and present territorial holdings: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territories_of_the_United_States

  10. A company here had a Kenworth with twin steer axles and planetary rear axles, I think they were made by a manufacturer in Korea. When the planetary rear end(s) crapped out the truck sat for months before it was hauled away due to high cost of replacement parts/reman units for the differentials.

Korean Planetary axles? On a Kenworth? You sure they weren't SISU axles(Finland)? What a waste. They should have just swapped out the axles for a domestic set.

  11. CAT isn't out of the market. Their C15 "big bore" block is the heart of the International MaXXForce 15. That and their foray into the truck market with the help of International. Their CAT trucks are powered by CAT engines.

CAT saw themselves as the odd man out with Cummins teaming up with PACCAR and DD bought out by Daimler. Plus their Acert emissions didn't help them much other than give them a black eye. But CAT is a huge global company and could sell truck anywhere on the planet through their dealerships. So CAT is just taking a different approach in the new world of strict emissions.

  12. So, last year i bought a code scanner from amazon:

    http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/B001LHVOVK

It was on sale for 19.99$ or something ike that, and it works well for what i need. I was wondering though, do the electronic mack engines use the same cable interface and protocols to talk to this scanner, or do I need a custom version?

    Thanx.

Your Mack would have to have an OBD II port. I don't think any truck makers use OBD II yet but I believe they will under a new federal law. And the better question is, how does one obtain a code scanner for a Mack? Can any Joe plunk down the big bucks and buy one, or do you have to be a certified dealership/garage?

  13. You're on the right track, this thing was built and sold in mexico, but its neither a Dodge or a Marmon...Mark

DINA and RAMIREZ are the only two Mexican truck makers that I am aware of. Dina was the company that made the small Westernstar.

  14. Yes you can but I think the problem will be if you louse the trailer or a air line the flip style valve will not "pop out" to contain service air in the tractor?. IF you can live with that then all you should need is valves that will exhaust when you set the spring brakes. the other issue is it may not be DOT approved if you need an inspection?

Could be grandfathered in since the truck was built before the modern air brake systems were implemented.

  15. Looks close to an old Marmon or Dodge cabover but isn't. Possibly a Mexican built truck, they do have some manufactures down there. Westernstar once partnered with one (started with an R i think) and sold their class 7 chassis here as Westernstar. Only saw one.

  16. Not to sure what brand it is but You are most likely right in saying Renault. I only have 38's on pedestal So before I take them out to put 44's on eagle claw I thought I would see if the six rod might fit in without to much trouble.

    Thanks

Good luck in the transplant. I have seen some Superliners with the factory Renault hub reduction axles.
