  1. After a few days I finally had some time today to work at my project again. I already like the looks of that Bosch pump between the frame rails. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks for the comments guys! I was able to work on my project some more today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Kind of handy. The neighbor has a wrecker. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I am in the village of Avoca. Just down the street from the only gas station. The motor was making some pretty good blow by. I have never been impressed with the electronic motor. So I bought this mechanical off my dad. Hopefully I get her in and working right. This DM was rough around the edges. Makes a good parts truck now for his DM dump. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I am a couple days in on my project. I am replacing the etech motor in my 99 RD with a 94 mechanical e7. I wanted to post some pictures because I enjoy seeing others projects on here. Hopefully I can get the pictures to load. . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I bought an aftermarket from Stengel Brothers. Search them online they show many different styles for Mack trucks
  7. Thanks. Yes I will be doing the work myself. I am hoping the etech lasts through my busy time for the dump truck now. Then I will have more time when snow is flying. I am in research stage right now. Just trying to make sure I am not missing some major detail.
  8. Having some trouble with my 99 etech. I am getting some pretty good blow by and its leaving a spot of oil on my shop floor at night under the breather tube. I am not sure what's up with it yet. I am not sure I am going to get that involved in finding out. I have been into this motor so many times I could lay out all the correct size sockets I need before I start. This is not my favorite motor. The only thing I used to look under the hood on my old 86 with the e-6 285 was to check the oil and service her. Wish I never sold that old girl That being said, I have just purchased a running 1994 em7-300 in a dm690s. Its a fully mechanical motor. I am looking to you guys here for a few questions. My quick measurements show it to be the same size block, I don't even think I will have to switch motor mounts around. Am I right? I will have the donor truck here so I am thinking that most of the throttle linkage and pedal and other odds and ends such as shut off cable and mechanical tach can be used. I am thinking that I will have to do some new wiring to the jake switch and such to get that operating. Is there anything major that will keep this idea from working? I am thinking most of my gauges are just a simple mechanical gauge, or do they run through the computer? I am ready to be done with this etech, I love the chassis and dump setup I have and just want that mechanical running under the hood. Is the e7 reliable motor? I would be going from a motor with 18000 hours to one with 20000. My dad has had the donor truck a couple years and used it in the winter with a van box on the back making deliveries of his potato crop. I have driven the truck a few times since he has had it and it seems to run out good. it starts no problem when it is downright cold outside and seems to run smooth out on the road. I am looking for some input on the similarities and differences of these motors and want to know if the big mack forum says I am crazy or go for it. Thanks Guys!
  9. I have a 99 mack RD with a 400 etech. My viscous fan clutch is weak I believe. It is time to replace it. I was thinking of converting to a Horton air operated clutch. I am looking for some opinions on this idea. I still have to measure up mine to see if I can find the appropriate parts. Do the make a kit for this? Any input is appreciated. Thank you
  10. What about the sensor on the front cover where the cam is. I think it has something to do with the timing at which the EUPs pop. Could it have been damaged?
  11. Thanks 2 stack. I will look for those.
  12. That's great! Thank you. I would love to have books with this sort of info on hand. What is a good source? Or should I just start searching eBay?
  13. We are trying to compare some transmission ratios for trucks that need to go slow next to our potato harvester. Eaton has all the info for their trannys listed on their site. But I can't find anything for Mack. Specifically the t2080 is what we are searching for if anyone knows this info I would appreciate any help thank you n
  14. Told myself that if i ever have trouble with that 99 motor I will swap it out for mechanical. They are probably harder to come by now i would assume. Plus I dont know how that works with emmissions and all that. But I like to picture her all mechanical, puffing a bit of black on the shifts.
  15. Thanks again. Your dm's are sharp looking. I spent my first 10 years in a 1986 dm 285 with a 6 speed. Kinda will always have that warm fuzzy spot in my heart for an offset cab. Same thing I was thinking, when dad said mechanical I did not believe him until I saw for myself.
  16. Okay thanks. My 99 has the etech. Find myself sometimes wishing it was the old mechanical style though. Its almost like that computer gives up sometimes on a hard pull.... I think he should be happy with this motor. Also while I am posting here what's the difference between a 688 and 690. I see there is a decoder for vin and model numbers on wiki but the model number decoder seems to lack how to decode an RD? I am just curious thank you
  17. Dad just bought a 96 rd688s and I assumed it was going to be a v-mac ii with the econovance and all that jazz. When he got it home I see it is fully mechanical (with a pushrod from pedal to pump). Was this an option to get in 96 or is this motor put into the truck sometime along the way? I thought they were all electronic by that time. VIN is 1M2P267C4VM032876 if that is any help. Thank You edit- maybe a 1997 i will check
  18. Good point, my vibration did not throw a code. What code is it? Did you use your cruise control switch to make it flash? That is if he comes back to check the thread.
  19. Hey i have a 99 RD with a etech 400 also. I just got through chasing a similar vibration about a month ago. It shook the dash and steering wheel at the same rpm as your vibration (worst at 11-1200). My vibration ended up being a cracked clutch pressure plate. I took the cover off the bottom of the bell housing and looked up in there with the truck running. The shake was very noticeable in there. To verify it before pulling the tranny, I snuck my wrench up in there and unbolted the clutch from the flywheel and slid it back as far as i could, then I restarted the truck and was running without the clutch turning. This took my vibration away. So i changed the clutch. I am not sure if this is your problem, but it is something to look at.
  20. Thanks guys... I wish I had my old '86 DM back... No need for programs and passwords.. just screwdrivers and wrenches. Haha. Thanks again, Andy
  21. Thanks guys... Have the specs changed? I looked on Mack trucks website under service in the online publications section. That shows both the 350 and 400 for 1999/2000 having straight key, no color code. Is that something Mack has put a bulletin on or updated after it was published on their site? Also when trying to change user settings with the pro-link, It is password protected. My Mack dealer says they did not put the password on, would there be one from the factory, or Is there a way to get around that? Mack dealer says $150 to re-flash and change it for me. I am trying not to spend any more money on that... after $300 to make the truck the same horsepower it already was. lol Thank you, Andy
  22. I had my 99 etech 350 programmed to a 400 at my local mack dealer last week. They ordered a program from Mack using my VIN. Before the upgrade I was showing 27 psi of boost when loaded on a hard pull. After the "upgrade" I now show 23psi sometimes maybe get 24... no real different feeling when driving at all... I am doing 6 or 7 loads a day to the same place pulling the same hills so I have a good consistent run to compare. I know 50 hp is not a huge difference, but it seems like i should see some improvement. Are the new progams from Mack low emissions, is that a factor? I know they changed to a 400 because a private owned shop near me has a pro-link, and that shows the info as E7-400. I am surprised the boost went down. We tested my charge air cooler and it has no leaks. I just wondered if any of the Mack gurus on here could shed some light on this and tell me where I am goin wrong. Thank you, Andy
