  1. I have read other posts here in the past that mentioned welding up the end up of the auxiliary stick and grinding it back to factory shape. After so long the rod rounds off at the end causing the shifter to hang up or pop out of the gate without completing the shift. I have the same issue with the quadruplex in my B. It jumps out of the gates usually when crossing over the H pattern from LL-Lo to Dir-Hi. I'm not sure that the same applies to the Duplex, but this is what I've heard.
  2. Yeah I'm not exactly sure what's going on with this thing. The plastic line coming off the fitting in the manifold is just dangling off not attached to anything and the puff limiter line from the injection pump that goes to the reverse relay is also removed. It seems the puff limiter has been disabled, but they didn't clean up their work. Wondering if I should just finish it off and cap the lines to the manifold and maxi brakes. I can't imagine the reverse relay is doing anything at the moment.
  3. Well, it took some digging. But this problem was one I invented. Thanks again, BMT forums.
  4. Thanks Mark, that makes perfect sense to me now. I've managed to scrounge up the Mack service manual on puff limiters from another thread on the site. What I don't understand now is that if the reverse relay leaking/ bleeding air off into the atmosphere with the brakes released is normal, surely not right? There's no figure showing the different ports on the reverse relay, but it does mention a test port. Is that what is leaking on my relay and simply needs plugged? The only other thing messing with my head on this one is that the control valve appears to be removed.
  5. This is actually on my 77 R model, but regardless who knows who has messed with what. It's not an air can leak as it is leaking directly out of the plastic piece with the arrow pointing to it.
  6. It must be associated with the parking brake system. I had the brakes released on the truck to check slack adjusters and when I pulled the knob to set the brakes it quit leaking.
  7. Looks like the braided line runs into the intake manifold and the other tees into a pair of lines running into the cab and under the dash.
  8. What exactly is this thing? It seems I've developed my first air leak on the new R. Its leaking air out of the jet looking looking orifice under the 90° fitting. Not sure where to go from here.
  9. Got a couple of things done today on the R model. Got the clutch adjusted and it sure made a big difference on how the truck shifts. Thanks again Paul for the video from EZ. Also got the build sheet and rest of the papers from the Mack Museum. What a neat service they've got. The truck hasn't been changed too much through the years, other than of course converted from tractor to dump. It's not nearly as heavily built as my B61, but it's sure earning its keep. Looks like it was built in Canada and sold through the Mack dealer in Terre Haute. It was spec'd and ordered by Solar Sources, a mining outfit in Indiana. Kinda neat that it came back to a mining family.
  10. CL75 is a Spicer 14" ceramic 2 plate unit. My 77 came spec'd with one too.
  11. Thanks, Paul! I'll check it out once I get it back home. Got my first job with it hauling a few loads on an inground swimming pool removal. It's just an on site job, but I'm happy to have the chance to run it.
  12. I stand corrected. The Chevy is a 68 C70. Anyhow, I spent a day working on the R model yesterday. I thought I had tracked down an engine oil seep coming from the oil fill. After removing and replacing the gasket I think it might be coming from one of the plates on the side of the block behind the injection pump. Looks like a challenge. I also need to figure out what the clutch adjustment procedure is to determine whether I have a worn clutch or poor adjustment. Its not slipping, just engaging pretty high up towards the top of pedal travel. The cable/linkage setup is unlike any I've ever fooled with, aka never a big truck.
  13. Thanks, Paul. We just call it generational hoarding.
  14. Yes, the black tandem dump is a Chevy. I think its a C90, which is, according to my quick google search, the same thing as a GMC 9500. There's also a 9500 GMC Short Hood at the farm that's a tandem tractor. The black one has a 3208 and twin sticks, the tractor is an 8v-71 13 speed. The old GMs are neat in their own way. I wouldn't mind having a few more runners around.
  15. Just the ol dogs parked up with eachother. Need to get the B fired up again and out of the weeds. The other R was my Dad and Grandpa's first Mack, it was a good runner until a rod went. Would like to find another e6-300 for it.
  16. Well, for a breif time there, sure. Life can do that to you. One minute you're changing tires and the next thing you know you're changing diapers. But, sometimes life is funny and tells you it's time for another bulldog, and that's what happened. Just brought home a '77 R686 today. Another ENDT676 but with Maxitorque transmission. This one's ready to go to work, so that's what I'm going to do. I still have the B, hasnt changed much since my last post. I have plans to repaint it soon. For the meantime here's a short clip of me and my son in the new to us R. Snapchat-2135430133.mp4
  17. Just delivered the first load of dirt today to the church up the road, making it my first run in the truck with a load on. Once I made it onto their paved parking lot I started hearing a noise from the back I haven't heard before when running unloaded. It was a clunking noise that I was only hearing when turning to the right. I'm really hoping it isn't an axle. A gentleman that works for the church, used to be a coal miner, said he heard it and sounded to him like a loose wheel. The truck has Daytons. Does this sound like a possibility? I haven't spent much time around these old dogs so everything is a mystery.
  18. Just got back from my first drive in the W900L. Wow that's a big truck compared to the B! I did manage to run it up the road pretty successfully and probably drove it for half an hour or so. I'm not 100% sure that's what I want to take my test in however, I think I might try and press on with my B and take the test in that. It might have a quadbox, but it's a whole lot less intimidating for some reason.
  19. Hope I'm not the opposite....I can parallel park my pickup 😵
  20. Thanks for all the help! I won't take it for granted. Thinking back on it I probably wasn't letting the RPM drop enough from 2nd to 3rd. I finally lined up a truck to take my B class test in and am going to go practice in it this weekend. It's a KW W900 with a Super 10, should be fairly simple. I would have liked to use my B for the test, but I think they require interstate driving here and I'm not sure how the truck is geared. It came with 4.66 originally, but I don't know if my rear ends have ever been changed. Plus, I've only got until the end of May to test before my permit expires and I don't know if I'll have the truck 100% legal by then.
  21. This will also allow me to address the question of what the heck is that "beeping" as the truck goes past. Anyone heard that before?
  22. Finally got to drive my truck for the first time yesterday, boy was it interesting. I'm a complete novice when it come to truck driving, this one is my intro. So the quadruplex was and will continue to be a big learning curve. I could shift from 1 Lo to 2 Lo and run the aux through second, but catching 3rd was evading me constantly. I only managed it once with a 2 Lo to 3 Lo shift. I was able to single clutch the 1 - 2 main box shift, but no matter how I tried 3rd main it didn't really want to go. I'm positive this was all my doing as I did manage to get it the one time although I was in such a frenzy I don't remember how I did it. Also, the truck smoked quite a lot on the initial part of the drive, which lasted maybe 10 minutes, but it has seen a lot of sitting around idling and short fire ups without ever really getting hot. It cleared up pretty much completely clear on the way back, although I think I wasn't pressing as hard on the go pedal. My dad recorded a short video, I'll post it up here as soon as I can.
  23. There's my answer, but it wouldn't hurt for us to continue to discuss any other differences for others who may come across this. Were the Maxidyne blocks the same as the Thermodyne? Also, here is a link to the page where I found the info on the pumps. https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/6985772/remanufactured-diesel-products-ambac-number-to-customer-number
