Yep. But there is another way...
Question: How do you make a small fortune?
Answer: Begin with a large fortune and use that fortune to start up an airline.
Reminds me of a line I've heard all my career... How to become a millionaire in trucking... Start with 2 million!

My take away from this article is, if you're an independent contractor and you are not making what you deserve, what is stopping you from changing jobs? Every trucker knows port haulage is a rat race. Also in the article it seems these independent contractors were doing better until they were forced to purchase newer trucks in 2008. Now they are trapped in lease-purchase agreements that they can't afford. So the government that caused the problem by interrupting free markets is now supposed to bail them out, creating another segment that can't function without subsidies. And the rest of us get to pay for it.

As the air is cooled it gets denser yes, but it wont achieve any extra power unless that air can be put to work by burning more fuel
We all reckon things go better at night as the air cools but I think it mainly has to do with breeze dropping so the wind resistance is a lot lower
Anyway thats my understanding but I could and most likely do have this all ass about
PaulMost of you folks down under are all ass about anyhows... You all drive on the wrong side and your toilet water spins backwards.

The American consumer is very fickle. Manufacturers design and build a good product, and we are off to the next fad. I always thought the Flex is a smart design and size that makes sense for many people, especially families.

Oh, he forgot to mention it comes with $4500 in the glove box............
That's good because apparently you won't find a title in the glove box either.

Has anyone considered an axle mounted steering box , like the early superliners or cruise liners? I know the systems were not perfect, but if mounting on the frame is an issue, this might be a solution.

They are a cool looking ride. Even have a Cruiseliner in the background
That cruiseliner is Mack's turbine powered test truck. Cool piece. I need to get back to the museum to check out rubber duck.

Just purchased a 2012 cxu613 pinnacle and noticed that the built in usb charger below the radio doesnt work, I have looked at some of the wiring diagrams but can't seem to figure out which fuse powers it. I checked the fuses under the panel on top of the dash and they are all good. thanks
IDK how it is supposed to work, but in my 2015 Volvo the USB port was not powered. It was only for linking up for music and such. It would not charge my phone.

Old trucks are great to collect, show, and run in a relaxed manner. But work them? I remember the disaster that Hostess transportation became when they didn't get any new trucks for 8 years and finally shut down and liquidated. By then the average fleet age was 18 years, and the bankruptcy creditor's list included most every truck rental company!
OMG, I'm way behind! My fleet average is 39 years! I better run down and buy a new truck! Oh wait, it's Sunday... Damn, I won't be able to sleep tonight until I sign up for the new Volvo tomorrow...

But to just outright sell this truck just doesn't seem right? I want an FJ and I can afford to buy one but I would feel like I had sinned and sentenced to hell for buying this one!
Seems it should be where it can be enjoyed and appreciated by many folks. I know you would treat it right, Dan. Maybe even loan it to the Mack museum, or Keystone?

Damit, now you tell me... I should have painted my MH brown. And do everything else UPS does.

That truck was super clean top to bottom no rust.

A 2000 model isn't quite an "old truck" yet. Macks and any well built machine with proper maintenance have a reliable service life of at least 20 years... Please give is an update after 2025.
Liberal game plan. Change the question if you're not getting the answer that fits into your agenda.

Key words "I've never owned a truck" you said it yourself, teamster... I've owned new and old for the last 20 years and I've made my choice on what works for me. Or maybe you weren't paying attention when I said that 10 times already. I'm not blaming anyone for my troubles. I am being proactive at taking care of myself and my family. Isn't America great that every individual has that opportunity?

If you had a newer truck you'd be out makin' money instead.
You'll never understand... It's not all about money all the time. I can afford to take a month off. And I will return to work doing what I enjoy. Can't say that about the job I left. Maybe a snowflake liberal college professor would call it a sabbatical.

Long hood and no aero= 5 MPG... Could pay for a new 7MPG truck with the fuel savings alone!
I fell for that line once... Traded a E9 MH for a brand new 2000 CX. Good truck, but not worth trading my soul to gain 1 mpg on a good day. And all the MPG in the world would not cover the downtime I have seen with anything newer than 2004.

Oh, and by the way, I wouldn't be able to take a month off to build my truck if I had a payment due.

So far my '85 MH build hasn't reached the $10k mark, including a spare parts truck. That doesn't even touch the FET on a new one. Been there, done that. Don't want what they're selling nowadays.

Ken, you sleep in your trailer, could the Roll Hauler be classified as an RV?

But we don't pay "our fair share" to maintain the roads that we use. Another good reason to keep an old truck.

Here's my little jitney, does a lot of work for me since I don't own a pickup truck. Titled as a 1975 homemade trailer, put together by a mechanic friend of mine. I purchased it from him almost 10 years ago. New bearings and lights at that time. I got lucky, my Jeep wheels fit right on the hubs.
