What is this baby used for and why?

Well the truth is it was built in conjunction with Hitachi for use in Japan building nuclear reactors until the quake happened a few years back. Since that happened

this crane {other than going through testing} has not been used. Lampson was paid in full by Hitachi and Hitachi is looking for any local work they can muster.

If any of you folks know of any jobs for it you might drop Hitachi a line.^_^

    Yes, it is.

Are saying it is a Mack or it's a nice picture?  The reason I want to know if it is a Mack in this pic, it's in a logging museum and the curator wants to know what year it is

and the make.    Thanks for the replies.

I would think these would sell like hotcakes at truck shows such as Matts Macungie etc.

Again I appreciate your input but I live in Walla Walla, Wa. about the only close truck show is in Brooks, Or. Plus when you do those types of things most

shows require a vendors license or business license. Plus some shows charge a fair amount for a booth. So by the time you include the gas, food

and motel you might brake even.  The ones who make money at truck shows are the food vendors.

  4.                                              I don't know about Macks guide lines for frame repair but I will throw in PacCar's approach and by their book of guide lines.

The cut should only be vertical, the insert rail should extend no less than three feet from welded frame joint and no less than six 5/8" flange bolts

spaced equally apart vertically and no more than 2" from splice or weld. I have always done them this way, 70 plus of them. And I always preheat

the rail and stick weld with 7018 DC. The weld is usually 5/8" wide.  It's always worked well for me.
