If you are really going to make it nice take the hood and assorted parts to the local chrome guy and have them stripped then redone or if you have a good polish guy get that done.  The hood piece is aluminum new like $999.00.

If you need a two stack cut out sleeper with new vents and floor I got one for sale for what I got in pm and I will send you pictures.  I was going to put on my 1978 but decided I couldn't cut the hole in the cab

The plan is for it to be a parade truck/ when the boss has to go out to the job sites. So we will be taking it down and doing it right. I think it's going to stay a day cab but we are going to stretch it to a 240" wheel base.

Nice find. I don't think the prognosis would of been good if you guys didn't take her.

An RW600... Does that mean it was a glider?

The guy it came from had it sitting in the back for 7 years. My boss told me he wanted to build a flagship for the company (all freightliners). Something that will turn heads. I told him nothing that has a freight liner badge will do the trick. . He laughed and said what are you thinking? I told him there is almost nothing that looks as good as a superliner but that they are hard to come by. And we should find a needle nose Pete or kenworth. He started looking and found this truck a few days later I went down to get it.

As far as the glider I have no idea.. I think the badge is generic cause if I'm not mistaken it's a rw613

    The strips look nice.

Did you spray them right on the gray paint and than clear coat all together or made the main paint first and than put strips?

The stripes were a after thought. The truck is a single stage urethane. then I taped off the area sanded it and painted the stripes one by one taping off each one and cleared just over the stripes. If I would have known I would have base coated the truck. Painted the stripes then cleared the whole thing. That way you don't have a ridge.

    Nice work.  Love those stripes.

I am working on a hot rod and the painter is also there.  He works on everything from daily scrapes up to Ferrari restorations.  I hear all the hub bub about painting today and the technology.  I'm used to a can of Enamel, some hardner and a spray gun!  It is crazy today.

I always enjoyed laying down paint.  Prep work, not so much!

I agree it's crazy how it's getting I hate the prep but the paint makes the prep worth it. I also enjoy laying paint down.

I think your a bit modest. That's some nice work for someone who doesn't do it for a living. Good stuff!

I thank you sir. My dad held a high standard when I was in the shop doing anything. And it stuck with me over the years. I look at my paint and still see all the flaws. And things I could have done differently. I laugh cause my dad stopped by and he still holds me to the standard and will point out the stuff. I guess it's a tough love.

    Nice work.

Thank you, I am no painter. I usually paint a couple things a year and when I go in the paint supply store I am shocked by all the new products. It's def a info overload. My hats off to the guys that do it everyday and are able to keep up with all the new tech. Being a mechanic the basics never change. As a body guy they change weekly.

So you don't use a primer under por 15?

The frame looks great! I can't wait to see final product. I actually really like the fact you didn't hide all the wear.

Sorry to hijack, They make a por primer but it's more of a metal prep than a actual primer. In my oppinon the stuff isn't worth the label it's printed on.. I put it on my truck frame of my pickup with all the por prep products"$$$" thinking if it works half as good as they say the frame it'll look great for a long time. It spent one one winter in nd oil fields very very little salt. And it's rusting right thru it.im pretty disappointed. I think the best way to do it would like ranchhopper did and seal over it with something else.

  8. So the rear drive on the super liner is broken and we bought a frame cutoff with the suspension and and a empty front drive and the rear is good and in it. The guy we got the cutoff from said the ratio was 4:42. That's what we need. But the housing is rusty and I cleaned it up but I can't make out any numbers on the tag. Is there any other way to tell? If I pull it out are the gears marked? I want to take the guys word for it but we all know what happens if I did that...

  9. I'm told this is a good combo and it will pull better than the c12 430hp engines in our freightshakers. So I guess what I'm asking is, We shouldn't need to "turn it up" to compare the two right? The boss is worried that the 300 won't do the job as well. I said we can always give it a bump. After we see how it does.

A 44.000 camelback is going to be ALOT rougher ride than that taperleaf.   terry

For the miles the truck will see, ride prob isn't a big deal. The truck is in the works to be a parade/back up hauler only for when he goes out. I would just hate to have problems with the taper leaf.

We had bad experience with them so did other gas company's with  broken leafs Amoco had a spring brake and catapult the truck over with trailer and alignment problems with eccentric anchor pins we kept them on T.B.A trailers .

Maybe we will just swap it over to the trusty camelbacks and not worry about the taperleaf. With a air ride cab the ride shouldn't be too bad?

  12. Thank you good sir's. So it might be best to leave it there on a truck that is more play than work. The trunion is cracked and the boss got a cut off with a hd one and 44k camelbacks. We were going to just swap the whole set up onto this truck but if the taperleaf is a better ride then we might just swap the trunion and reuse the taperleaf.
