  1. I saw this truck again this week, I guess heading to Atlanta. It is a dark blue; pulling a dark blue race car hauler. The only markings on the trailer is the #37 (no sponser decals). It has some writing on the door but I'm always going the opposite direction and can't read it.

  2. Over the last few weeks there have been a few times when I thought the clutch slipped. My clutch is 5-6 years old and has never been adjusted. It is a Lype and even now it has about 2" of free travel and hits the clutch brake fine, so I don't see how I can adjust it any better. Tranny is a T2180B, could the clutch pack in it be going bad? Or could the power divider be slipping?

  3. Unless those are new hour meters that sounds about right for the mileage.

    slpwlker,

do you mean those hours would be correct for engines that have over a million miles?

  4. I'm taking my vacation the first week of August and i'll probably go to the ATHS show in Lincolnton,N.C. July 30th. Just wondering if anyone else might be going-David? Mark? Mike? anyone? My no. is 434-664-7847. I left there last year about the time Mike got there.

Man I hate I'm going to miss that show. It's only about an hour from my house. We will be on our way back from Chincoteague, VA on July 30th. Taking the family up there for the pony penning(Mom still runs a horse farm). Maybe I can make the one in Cherokee, NC.

  5. Can anyone tell where a truck was sold or to whom by the VIN # anymore? I thought my local dealer used to be able to tell that but they say they can't anymore. I would like to know a little history about the 2 MH's I saved yesterday from the crusher. If anyone can help it would be greatly appriciated.

    Truck #1 1984 MH613 1M2AR08Y4FM003260 E9440, 2100 10SPD, 3 LEAF SUSP. 4:17 RATIO 11375 miles, 6777 hours.

    Truck #2 1984 MH613 1M2AR08Y5FM006409 E9440, 2100 10SPD, CAMELBACK SUSP, 4:17 RATIO. 112704 miles, 9064 hours.

I know the mileages are probably not correct unless they have rolled over the million mark, but how many miles would the hour readings be equal to?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bubbamobilin

  6. nope! if i did it should be by the 3 oil fiters correct? bobo

Yep the oil temp sending unit should be in the oil pan. My Superliner does not have one either and I've always wanted one. A good welder could put you a fitting in the oil pan, but I guess I have too much of my dad in me to drill a hole in a pefectly good oil pan. And I'm not sure teeing off the oil pressure line will give an accurate reading. You be the guinea pig on that deal and let me know how it works.

    Thanks,

    Bubbamobilin

  7. Good save.

Thanks yall, I just couldn't bear the thought of those E9's going through the crusher. Hurts my feelings to know all those E6's and one Big Cam 855 will be gone forever. And I'm not a Cat fan but 6 more of those will be gone as well. Such a shame.

  8. A man near my home town has a fleet of about 9 HM's. Due to bad health he quit trucking a few years ago. Ever since I have been trying to buy the 2 MH's that had E9's. He would not sell them to me, said he might need them again one day. I asked him to give me first opportunity to buy them and he said he would. Yesterday I heard through the grapevine that someone had bought the trucks and was chopping them up, so I rode up there today a sure enough that's what was happening. The scrap man was very willing to sell me the two I wanted so I was able to save them. As for the rest of the MH's and about a 6 exFoodLion flatback Freightliners with air to air B model Cat mechanical engines the crusher will be their fate.

Stay tuned for further details. My plans are to part these MH's out and help my fellow Mack enthusiest keep their legacy vehicles up and running. Both have E9 440's, 2100 ten speeds, and CRD 92/93 carriers on 38K rears. One is a camelback and the other is a three leaf. I will keep yall posted as I begin to catagorize the parts. Who knows, I might even fix one up.

  9. Hi, have emailed you. I rebuilt the transfer pump today. fuel pressure went up 10 lbs. found some sort of plastic in top of transfer pump, it has come out of the new hose. hopefully this will help its drain back?? also got an inline primer pump to. will try get it on the dyno in next couple of weeks.

    Grant

I have a new turbo for an 866 still in the box. Bought it several years ago from my local Mack dealer(excess inventory). If you are interested I'll get the part # and you can check to see if it will work on your application.

  10. Have a mack rd model and trying to find out what the gauges should read on the air conditioner LOW pressure side and HIGH pressure side ?

want to make sure its not over charged, because My clutch unit is not kicking off automatically..

temp in my area in the summer is 70-90 degrees

    its blowing very cold air..

    any help would be great

At high idle (1000 rpm's) and the fan engaged, the high side should be between 250 and 450. The low side should be between 30 and 40.

  11. Has anyone installed one of the r or rw drop visors that are for sale on ebay? Just wondered what they look like on a truck, pics on ebay listing only show them on a roof that was cut off of a cab. If anyone could post some pics of one on a truck it would be great for the rest of us, thanks. Sorry, I should have given a better discription. I was talking about the 13 inch stainless drop visors.

Just my opinion but DON'T DO IT!!!. The fiberglass visors are what make R models stand apart from other trucks. I think the factory stainless R visors don't look as good as the fiberglass and the stainless gives the impression that your trying to look like a Pete or KW.

  12. Well it's great to see the UP is still running some steam excursions as a public relations tool. The only things left of the Norfolk&Western or should I say the Norfolk&Southern steam program are sitting cold in the museum in Roanoke, VA. Such a shame to see those beautiful pieces of equipment and history sitting cold. I did take my boys there a few years ago and it's a great museum, well worth the time, but I wish they could see the N&W 1218 and 611 come through our home town like I did.post-199-0-21666500-1307333330_thumb.jpgpost-199-0-93680600-1307333349_thumb.jpgpost-199-0-39047900-1307333368_thumb.jpg

  13. 53-55 degree discharge air from the duct closest to the evaporator core is right on target for a properly sized HVAC unit for a given space. This provides the correct amount of dehumidification to the ambient air, along with heat removal. Ensure your blend doors are actuating correctly within the ductwork. Also door seals tend to leak more as they age.

    Rob

Thanks Rob. I did check the evaporator today and it was stopped up pretty good. Also the drain was stopped up as well as the drain on the sleeper. I went to a local HVAC supply store and purchased some cleaner. I cleaned both evaporators and uncloged the drains. I did not give it a test run today but I'm sure there will be and improvement.

  14. I know it's hot outside but what's up with my A/C? The older my truck get the worse the A/C gets. I put a new compressor on late last summer along with expasion valve and dryer. It did OK until winter but not great. Charged it up a few weeks ago and still the same old thing, 55 degree air. That's alright when I'm by myself, but now that school is out my two boys like to ride along and with three people in the cab 55 degree air don't cut it! Is it time for a new evaporator? Any help will be appreciated.

  15. First time I've ever seen a pic of this one. Anybody know the story ??

    28hered.jpg

There were two Superliners and two Cruiseliners. One of the Superliners was involved in a wreck and the other was just scraped out as well as one of the Cruiseliners. The last surviving Cruiseliner is at the Mack Museum in Allentown.

Turbine technology was just not ready for street use. These trucks went on US tour and impeeded traffic everywhere they went. When at a stop light, you had to build boost to get rolling, by the time you got the turbine spooled up to roll the light was red again.

  16. Hey Gambi

I'm looking to sell mine. It's a 88 Ravens 48' x 96" spread axle. I have a side kit (new panels acouple of years ago) for it too. The tarp is a rollover tarp. I know an 88 is old but it has good arch to it. New tires last year and brakes are fairly new and it has the dump valve for the rear axle. I don't pull it very much and when I do it's to haul grain so I figured I would just get an end dump.

    Thanks

    Larry

How much you want for the '88 Ravens? You have any pics? If so can you email me some? My email is bubbarandolph@hotmail.com

  17. Why?

I never had any problems with the early V-Mac systems- they cold start better than the mechanical engines and give you cruise control to boot.

I don't want to invest in the tools to read codes and I sure don't want to go to the Mack store every time the malfunction/shutdown lights come on. We got rid of most of our computer trucks with the exception of 1 '98 with a ETech. The rest are E7 and E9's, all mechanical. Duct tape and baling twine will get em home.

  18. I cant believe Randy is running a Freightliner...when I drove for him he had 5 Petes and a Western Star. The Pelletiers were running doubles all the time back then pulled them with what Andrew uses as a crane carrier now, all wheel drive RM's with E9's making 600 + horse - those guys know full well how to make a Mack run......Rick

Amen Brother! I do wish Eldon woulda spoke up in defenses.

  19. Anyone see American Loggers last night? Did I hear the conversation between Eldon Pellitier and Randy Bergoin correctly? Sounded like Eldon is still fond of a Mack Truck. He told Randy if he had a Mack he would have had enough fuel to run all week. Randy said a Mack wouldn't run. Eldon needs to get one of his E9's right or one of those MP10's and go spank that yellow Freightliner!

  20. Has anyone ever changed a truck with a VMAC injection pump to a mechanical pump? I have a '96 CH with a E7 427 and VMAC II system that I would like to convert to a mechanical system. I have several spare mechanical Bosch injection pumps. Someone told me I would have problems with the instrument panel, that once I disconnected the VMAC computer none of the guages would work. Is this true?

  21. That number doesn't come up but 1M2V121C2CM001201 does. Says its an RWS721LST. Build Date 4/8/82. Built with an EM9 400, TRXL1070A transmission, Mack 92/93 series differentials with 5.32 ratio (looks like automatic power divider, no lockout), FAW537C Steer axle, looks like axle mounted steering gear, 3 leaf front springs, and Neway rear air ride suspension.

Thanks for the info. Truck has an EM9 400 acording to the ID plate on the valve cover. Tranny is now a T2090 which raised concerns with me because I didn't think the 20 series were in production in 1982. Suspension is still Neway air but the rears are now a 4:17 ratio. The cab is very rusty in all the usual places for the non galvanized cabs, rockers, corners, drip rail. The truck still looks nice except for the rust. If I can get it bought for the right price it might make a nice piece.

  22. Came across an RW today for sale. VIN plate was missing on the door. VIN # on the frame is 1M2V121C2C4001201 best I could tell. There was a lot of paint on the frame and I didn't want to take my knife out and rake the paint off with the owner standing there. Owner says the truck is a 1982 but doesn't know the model. Going by just the VIN can anyone give me any further info on this unit?
