Looks nice and somewhat near me, but luckily I'm leaving for St Josephs, Michigan for a week to hunt for an abandoned B model. No one here lives near their so I have to go myself.

I am not far from St Joseph.  You just never asked??🐢

  2. Ah, a final resolution to the issue I finally met up with my villages zoning officer. Plans are in the works  for a 26x36x14 addition to my current barn to keep the Mack and trailer inside of. Life is good and I have some time as construction beings depending on the weather . 🙂

Also found  the source of complaint .

Apparently a swift driver was trying to park his rig in front of his house and few blocks over and was complaining about why I could have mine and he couldn’t .

Slightly different parking situation than mine mine I would say

  3. Loctite on the races and I put the large radius bearings in as Vlad’s reasoning makes sense.   All should be good. I have to set the bearing preload tonight then onto the other side seals and bearings.

Swishy ,  I do plan on changing the fronts to grease after I am done with the  drives .

  4. Ran into an unknown this afternoon when replacing the wheel bearings and seals on the f-model.

I ordered based on the timken book for my axle, hub casting #’s  and year a 382-372 cone cup for the inner bearings . These has a “Mack special radius” according to timken.

Now the glitch is  the bearings I took out are 380-372 set.

Both the 380 and the 382 are identical in dimensions, but the 382 has a larger inner radius. See pictures.

Which is the right one for my f-model?

Should I go with the timken catalogue or what was installed previously?

    Thanks

  5. I know on the don't break the windshields.  I have a tiny chip in the drivers and it is worrying me.  I had to search quite a while to find a good  replacement for the all chipped and cracked passenger window.

I think the main difference between the F-model and the R-model is  the cab is  considerably wider.   I may have to break down and buy two R-model gaskets and splice together enough width.

  6. State Farm insured it as a recreational /pleasure vehicle with limited miles per year.  Definitely non commercial and it states it on the proof multiple places.

The mack is registered at a 13,650 pounds weight and the plate fee was based on that.   I have no idea what it really weights  that is just what the 685st Mack info says.

On the ordinance, I am not sure but I have next week off and am trying to set up a face to face meeting with the zoning officer. I want everything agreed on and in writing on if I am good or not.

  7. On a happier note.  The F-model is sporting the first coat of its new look.   I need to do a second coat and then re-do the former accent white design in smoke grey in addition to the fuel tanks and all non chrome trim pieces smoke grey as well. B)

A new slack adjuster, a wheel seal an oil change plus a few odds and ends and it will almost be road worthy.  Yeah time to build some diamond plate rear fenders as well.

  8. Yeah ,  zoning is a pain.  I think I have a good plan settled on though.

Cut a 12 ft  tall x 10 wide door in the north end of the barn on my week off next week and tuck it in out of sight.  Only costs me a new over head door.

Also picking up plates and insurance of some type tomorrow. 🤔

Till then it’s getting a quick scuff/ wire wheel and a black and dark silver paint scheme. Should hide a bit better than red and white. 🧐

I’ll either redo the same scheme it has or try to create this one from the Mack brochures .

  9. I am going to try and get a meeting set up with the zoning officer and see if I can nail down an exact resolution to the situation.

My plan of attack is try and get it registered historic first and convince the village it is a minimal use vehicle no different than an  RV.

If that fails,  I move to plan b and either remove the cab to fit it into my current barn or put up a 20x 28x 12 addition to the north end to house the Mack.

They can attempt to tell me I can have a "commercial" vehicle in my barn, but I think that the out of sight out of mind would work against any complaining neighbors.

The property lay out isn't ideal for neighbors. "I have a few"

  10. Thanks guys,  lots of good ideas.

As far as more info.  I own 2.5 acres “the entire middle of a village block”  so I have a ton of neighbors all around my back yard.

I haven’t used the semi or trailer since I moved here over a year ago. I just fire it up once a month or so and do a loop around the back yard.

It isn’t currently registered but I am leaning towards a vintage or historical type plate.

I talked to the zoning officer,  he seems slightly accommodating.  I think I just have to get it agreed that isn’t being used for commercial purposes and is basically a really short RV.

Here is the zoning I am up against:
