  1. what unique features does a liberty edition have? i've never heard of them, sorry
  2. I take 20 everytime to get to marengo, and once in a while I have to stop and look around. That big orange truck is so bad ass
  3. I know what you mean. I've noticed that if you listen between shifts for the gears to slow down, and then shift, you have less grinding. But for the upper gears, there's just no help it seems.
  4. Take my word for it, its a 10 speed. I've seen this exact same tranny in several of the same era macks and they are all 10 speeds. The winshield visor gives the shift sequence: 1D 1H 2D 2H 3D 3H 4D 4H 5D 5H, in that order. Besides, if you just leave it in high or direct and go through the gears, the gears are spaced too far apart for a heavy load.
  5. I just started driving an 88 R688ST with a 10 speed, the one with a 5 speed box with direct, high, neutral, and reverse for each gear. Often it grinds when I pull it to the next gear. For example, when shifting from 2 high to 3 direct, I shift to direct and pull the lever to neutral and I starts grinding in Neutral. It does the same thing from 4th to 5th. Is this common, or am I doing something wrong. Don't get me wrong, I've driven several eaton fullers with gear splitters, so I understand the concept. I'd like to know if there are any tricks to the trade. Give me a break and don't laugh, I'm a newbie!
  6. What years were the E9 V8's in production, and what ranges of hp were they offered with?
  7. What are the differences between a Superliner and a regular R model? Weren't they both available with the same engines and transmissions? Also, what is an Ultraliner?
  8. Its an E6 350 hp and I wouldn't call it efficient
  9. Thanks a Million man, that explains a lot!
  10. Anyone here familiar with Allen's Towing on Rt. 20 in Hampshire, IL? I've driven by there several times and stopped in to look around once in a while. I wish I knew more history on that place because the must have had quite a business there. They have some of the heaviest duty trucks I've ever seen. If anyone knows more about them please tell.
  11. I have a 1988 R688ST and it says "Econodyne" on the hood. What does econodyne mean?
  12. I have a 1988 R688ST with the E6 350 hp. Is there a cheap way to increase the power possibly by turning up the injector pump, or is that not recommended? Also, I have the 12 speed mack tranny, does anyone know what model # it would be? Thanks
