  1. Hi not so far, I also have a 49 Chevy 4400 series 235 six cylinder and it takes exactly the same rotor cap and button as my Mack ,also the per Tronics was the same as I put in my Chevy . everything else is just Standard turn signal relays. I changed it over to negative ground from positive and only had to reverse the wires on the temperature gauge and it still works today , went to a one wire alternator and did away with everything else on the old charging system in 04 and haven’t had a problem with electrical at all .
  2. Hi I thank everybody for the answers .the timing is part of the problem the first time the engine blew I did Have the timing advance too much the book and I have the original book calls for 2° and that’s what it set for with regular fuel I have a pyrometer on it now to keep an eye on the internal temperature of it but it’s still getting too hot I’ve triple check the Intake for vacuum leaks nothing there in process of drilling out the jets on the carburetor but it’s slow going and with winter I don’t get a chance to run it that much thanks everybody for all the suggestions will keep you informed merry Christmas
  3. I’m using regular 88 fuel with the 10% ethanol in it it’s about all I can find around here the water temperature doesn’t go up it’s exhaust temperature melts the pistons
  4. Hi this was a 70 R608 firetruck pumper 707C gas engine I took the bed off and built a 55 style Chevy bed with a air rod mark rear under it The drop down MACK tailgate are 2“ x 2“ by quarter inch square tubing
  5. Yes I believe you are right on both of them call for 3 to 4 pound pressure on the fuel put a pyrometer on it a few inches past the exhaust manifold and watch your temperature it will go to 1500 degrees real quick
  6. Hello I have a 7707 c that exhaust temperature melts the Pistons rebuilt the motor 40 over new pistons rings and it’s still running hot put a pyrometer on it ,tried drilling out the jets in the carburetor it’s still running way too hot ,unless I pull the choke out better than halfway to keep it temperature down any advice is this common with them or should I put a four barrel Holly or anything else on it. It is the original carburetor yet

Thank You for sharing the picture ,, yours is Nice! Mine has a 237 Mack Diesel, 5 speed. It was originally from Baltimore, then a volunteer fire department in East Tennessee got it. A friend of mine owns a rock quarry here in Western North Carolina, he got it because it made his insurance go down, maybe 15 years ago, it was all working. Then the fire department built a sub station near by and they didn’t need it, they let it freeze a lot of the pump. And let it set out and rust the chrome, paint is bad, I removed the bed and had a drive shaft made, I have a reg flatbed on it now, but you gave me a idea, yours looks great. This thing only has 89,000 org miles. But I have WAY too many projects! Not sure what I’ll do with it.

The hood is good, but the paint is cracked terrible, I have been trying paint remover to loosen it up .

Hi my first pick up at 1970 was a 55 Chevy half ton and since mine is a 70 mark I decided to make a somewhat copy of a 55 pick up bed it is actually extended wide fenders for a 55 pick up made it a lot easier to put super singles air ride from a 93CH truck under it it’s all quarter inch plate.  Made it fairly easy to build it then  thanks buddy enjoy

  9. Yes mowerman a 70R 608 fire truck I removed the pump and bed had a 14 ft dump on. It took it off and am building a pickup style bed on it now. Will get some pictures of it on here soon thanks
  10. Thanks everyone for posting your thoughts about this,I will let everyone know when I get it back in 👍👍🙏
  11. Thanks guys for the thoughts on it I’m leaning towards the carburetor was too lean that it in , plus I might’ve had the timing off too much. OK appreciate input I’m going to try it one more time and see what happens thanks a lot I’ll let you know ,hopefully get it back running in the next two weeks
  12. I will reply to everyone who answered thanks again
  13. Sorry it won’t let me put any more reactions today
  14. Hi thanks all for the replies and yes you’re all right I should I give more information here’s the story I bought the truck in 04 . 21,000 miles on it took the fire bed off put a dump bed on it started hauling Sand and gravel ,at 24,000 miles the Pistons melted down through the side on one piston all the way through the rest of them was halfway burned through, sent them to a machine shop on the West Coast, they tig welded them up re-cut the rings ,supplied rings and racing shop that I had put it together took the cast strings and threw them away and put in chrome Molly, I run it from 24,000 miles to 27000 and they broke all the rings in it every cylinder , had it board out ,honed 20,000 over with no’s pistons,in a machine shop in Harrisburg PA , he had built these engines in the 60s did a great job on it brought it home ,started it up had less than one hour on it idling and running part throttle, and all six cylinders cracked the rings all three sets of rings ,I believe I had an out of time too much ,so it’s my fault ,I was just wondering what everybody else thought about it thank you very much for your replies and the help
  15. Dang auto spell I know I corrected that before I posted it breaking rings 707 gas engine it broke the rings initially at 24,000 miles and again at 27,000 miles what could be breaking them
  16. hi is there any old-school mechanics that work on the 707 engines particularly 707 say having problems breaking ranks I have a seven day or 608 was 27,000 miles and it’s broke the rings twice and it wondering what could be doing it any ideas thanks
