I agree with you 100%, your not becoming a dinosaur you just have respect for yourself, others, and your job. I never have claimed to know everything about trucking and probably never will, but you have to be willing to learn the job. That's what a lot of the New drivers don't wanna do. My whole trucking career i've always watched others, asked advice and picked up on a lot. The whole backing up deal to me is set yourself up, look at everything around you. I'll be the first to admit i've screwed up a few times, but I learned from my mistakes and a lot of these new drivers don't care if they do. I agree with farmer and maint1, practice......it's really getting sad out here anymoreI respect and understand DCR's opinion, everyone (including myself) did indeed start somewhere, but these "driving school drop-outs" are becoming the bane of the trucking industry! One difference is that I WANTED to be a driver like my Dad and Grand-Dad,was'nt a "last ditch effort" after failing at everything else. I do more and cover more ground in a day then most of these nood-nicks do in a week! And therefore cannot afford to be held up at every stop by someone who doesn't have the skill or desire to do a proper job. My Grand-Dad used to have an expression for this,"If you want to be a Lumberjack, you should be able to hold up your end of the log"! I am sure some of the big carriers have some decent drivers, problem is I just don't see them anywhere? Not everyone is cut out for life on the road, and that has never been more apparent to me then in the past few years, some of the things I see people do in a truck on almost a daily basis scares the S**T outta me! Some of what I see getting out of trucks isn't much better, what happened to pride in profession? Bathing? clean clothes? Deoderant? shoes? I manage to get cleaned up everyday, one way or another? Don't own flip-flops,sweatpants,or anything of the sort.
I may be a dinosaur, but I represent my company in a professional manner, respect my customers, and my equipment to the tune of 3.5 million miles safe driving! run clean, safe equipment, and do what I say I'm going to do,right wrong or in-different!............Rants over, back to your regularly scheduled programming!.............................Mark

That is 96b, 20mph hill for trucks, last July a truck runaway coming down that same hill and run into a building killed the driver and several othersJoe is right. Before the days of Spring Lock brakes there were a lot of runaway truck accidents in the citys of northern PA and Central NY. Long Steep down hill into town and no where to go at the bottom!! Usually an intersection with a turn in it.. Blow one brake diaphram and NO AIR!!! or transiants getting the brakes hot.. Aurora Street hill (96B?) coming into Ithaca NY even had a sorta leveled railroad crossing by Morse Chain which created a ski jump effect.

There goes my idea then....uh what about 60 series Detroit's?No 2-strokes allowed. The town has noise, air and ground pollution ordinances.

Glad you, the Truck and the load was ok buddy. I don't think I can count the times over the last couple of years I've had that thought run through my head "this is not cool", but as slpwlkr and Mark said Shit happens and it coulda been a whole lot worse. Hope your week got better

"If you build it they will come".....What about overnight parking for Detroit powered units? To help offset costs we do have a small fee for parking. We don't have a fuel island but we do have showers for a small fee. F.W.D. trucks can park for free and drivers of F.W.D.'s can get free showers. We also have wireless internet if you can figure out the password (we'll give that to you for a small fee.....)

Thanks to everybody on here for the birthday wishes, and I would like to apologize to everybody on here for my lack of participation on the site. I've been working a lot here lately and still look around on here, but i'm just usually tired to try and post replies. When I do think of a reply and bother to type it out, I just feel like everyone gonna think "this dude's on crack or something". Anyway my birthday went good, and I really appreciate all my friends here on BMT

Did you get mad and kick her out whenever the "Kool Aid" didn't take effect?Yeah, she just moved in next door. I was just sitting here watching the Cosby show and got an ideer. Jo had to go to the store and as soon as she got out of the driveway I ran next door to invite the new neighbor over for some kool-aid.

I think that Corbitt was started by associate transport to fill there needs for trucks, then sold trucks to the public. Don't quote me exactly on that of course, but there was a story about it in the wheels of time quite some time ago.

I just watched that on the news myself. Glad I'm not up in there this week
