That's why we run older stuff. Just cant pay a decent wage, supply benefits, have new trucks and make money at the same time.
Thanks for the advice! Let me give you guys a little more info so that I can be rightly guided! I have $20K saved and put aside for so that if things are kind of slow I have a cushion for payments! I have another $20k set aside that I can put as a down payment if needed! I own my House its free and clear. I hace a wife and two children! I have 1 dump truck its a Tri-axel freightliner 84! Right now i'm the only driver! I run right now in and out of the landfield dropping slag (LMF) from the steelmill! I ususalluy averege at least 30K a year from this job alone! The thing is that stuff is nasty!!!! Its hard on trucks to go in and out of there! I would never want to put a new truck in there! The reason I dont think I get the burn I could from KOKOsing or Shelly and sand is because of my older Truck! How I see it with the older trucks I had and Bad drivers I was spending $15 to $20K a year in Maintance! Thats why I down sized sold most of my older trucks and put my Hide back into the drivers seat! I just think with a new truck thats covered from bumper to bumper for a year, me driving it, and plus having the little cushion in the bank that I can Make it out here! I'm ready to out work anyone in my area and I KNOW that will take me having a dependable piece of Equipment! Thats why i'm on year talking to you guys who have had years in this business! I KNOW ONLY A MACK TRUCKER CAN STEER ME RIGHT ON THIS ONE! I was thinking about a used one! But then I would have to worry about break downs again! I feel If I can get that 1 year of no worries and work I can make it! What do you huys think?

thats a pretty std truck, mid level interior, front aluminum, steel rear wheels, aluminum tanks, single exhaust, not a Rawhide but not a plain jane work truck either, he told me an MP8 Rawhide Granite tri axle would be around $178,000.

Ok Fellow Mack Drivers heres where i'm at! I live in Ohio and I'm in the Dump Trucking Business i've come up through the ranks Hauling what ever I could to survive in this game. I just established Credit and want to buy a New Granite 713 or 813 dump! My question is Pound for Pound what is the safest bet on a single truck! A Tri, Quad or 6 Axle? I dont have one solid company I work with because before I had order trucks and was limited! But now that i'm buying new should I start out with something big or small? I'm ready to work my butt off and i will be applying to asphalt companys, construction companys and be willing totravel the state of Ohio to keep the money rolling in. I just need RIGHT guidance in this time being that i'm stepping out here and i need to know what will be The best all around Truck to bank on! Many thanks lil Mack pup!
-
Thank you for the great response you have giving me a lot to think about! In Ohio Tri weight is between 60 to 62 ton gross weight! And I plan to first try to get work with asphalt but I need a truck that's really set up to do anything if necessary! What do you think is best time to purchase truck

Thats ur call just remember u are damned if u do and damned if u dont!
In your opion how does motor look? I mean from pics it look a little dusty opposed to some other used engines I've seen unless its a way to clean them up and make them look good? What does that warranty mean when they say #7 injector? What is consider major components
-
-
its not bad but u can probably get a new 2014 granite with your spec and automatic for 30k more with a new truck waranty, ur color,
This one comes with 150k mile warranty on #7 injector and 500k mile warranty on all major components.
Do you think I should wait a few more months of running and go new? What type of warranty comes on new truck?

The only thing I can say is make sure it burns the DEF. They started using it in 10 sometime. The MP8 motors seem to be doing alright but there are some issues with truck components. If possible get a horton air engage engine fan clutch. The 08 to 10 with the DPF and no DEF will cost you a fortune to keep on the road especially if in severe duty service. The camelback suspension with the greasable brass trunnion is also something to stay away from. They went back to the rubber trunnion sometime in 11. Another Volvo deal where there was nothing wrong with their design, so they say, but then went back to old style that works.

Sir if you can't afford new steers please please get out of trucking its not worth your life your drivers life or fellow drivers life! That action your talking is DANGEROUS!

Thanks for the detailed info! I've been driving for about 3 years had a few older Rd's and one Cl-713 "99" with the e460! I've decided after drivers abuse slow my roll and to sell all equipment and get me one newer one and put my hide in that seat for a year! Work hard and then get another newer one and find a good driver! Right now I'd like to stay in the $130k range! Also I'm really thinking of getting a Automatic with at least 405hp! I'm in Ohio so I think a steel bed would be best so if things get slow on the blacktop at least ill be ready to do anything (demo) if needed to make that payment! I've kind of been learning by trail and error being that I've had no teacher I thank God I found this website so I can learn the correct way to be successful in the dump business!

Nice truck! How do they do on rust? How many trucks you have? I'm thinking on getting a 2010-12 granite just trying to decide on auto or manual have you had any autos? If so how do they hold up and how do they do on hills?
-
.When think auto in a big truck i automatically think of the old 4spd allisons. But the new autos do very well, a local excavating company went to all autos and i know a guy that works for him and he had the same thought i did but he said he was suprised at how nice the were in a dump truck. And ever sence they quit breaking rears, drive shafts, and u joints plus he said in getting in and oult of places to dump and get loaded it was nice. Personally i like my gears and shifter. But i know if i ever would buy trucks for other people to drive theyd be autos. Also there is a youtube video by allison that shows two granites in a pea gravel pit the truck with the standard started hopping and got stuck the auto truck hooked to him and pulled him out. I was impressed with it.
How does Allison do on a hill?
-
Where was that video of pea gravel? And how does Allison do when your on a hill?
-
Yes trying to find out from Mack truckers what bed is best bang for the dollar but most of all which one will hold up the longest! Getting a new truck and just trying to in vest right! It will be for a Quad or Tri axle Granite.
-
Yes can someone tell me what this means?
-
Is there a reason why you say Rd? If so what year? I really want to get into something nice dependable and not as noisy as the older trucks!
-
Yes I'm about ready to buy me a newer Truck looking at Mack Granite 2010-12. A Tri or Quad and was thinking about getting an Automatic and was wondering what you guys think vs a manual? I will mostly use truck for Milling, black top, dirt, and Gravel. So I will probably get a steel bed! But I'm willing to take any suggestions on truck set up (bed, tarp, tire size, rear end, suspension set up! Many thanks!
