Nice truck. It seems strange to hear the word restored involved with a 1985 truck. In my little mind they are still new. Or at least they were when I was working on them. I think this my mean I am getting old too. Chuck

Rob,
It looks like you found your way there. I didn't have the site address handy when I posted last. I've always liked those old 2 stroke Detroits myself. I have several of them in Allis Chalmers crawlers. Good luck with your project.

Rob,
Have you been to the Detroit Diesel message board? Someone over there will have your info. As I remember most all that stuff will interchange on a Detroit.

I have a missing lf vent window latch and the right side doesn't work too good on one of my B models. Anyone know of availibility or a good substitute?
Thanks Chuck

Don't take this the wrong way a 237 is a great engine but it's not the right choice for a 13 speed. The 237 pulls torque from 1200 to 2100 the 13 speed will keep the rpms 1600 - 2100. The 237 was made for the 5 or 6 speed. That was made the maxitorque combination amazing when it came out in 1965. Also the 13 speed may not be able to handle all the torque of the 237. Generally the 13 speed is rated to handle torque at 1600 and when the 237 starts to pull at 1200 you will hear the gears whining (untill they eventually fail). A 237 with a 6 speed works real nice in a DM. 5 reverse gears are great for off road or backing into a paver box.

Do you know who made the haul? The Autocar looks like Marino Crane's. They have some good looking prime movers. I've seen them at shows and working.

Does anyone know what the torque should be on the brake lining to shoe bolts. Four bolts per block , iron shoes.
Thanks Chuck

Hi folks,
I'm putting together a new engine for my R model. I'ts based on a 300hp tip fan + water intercooled engine. A 12 speed overdrive trans will behind it. I am looking specs / suggestions on fuel settings and turbo size to make maximum reliable hp. We are planning to use Robert Bosch pump and nozzles.
Thanks in advance for any help. Chuck
Need Speedo Info

I've been busy lately working on one of my B models. I am trying to get it ready for my son to practice for his CDL and take his test. I need to get the speedo working and I need some help. First off it never worked since I had it (I didn't care). It seems the original owner may have removed the cable and possibly the adapter (it only shows 1 mile). It has a quad trans and I can find the drive but a cable wont fit the pencil gear has a very small square drive. Do I need a adapter ? Any info would be great.
Thanks Chuck
