  3. Big thing to look out for. I have 4 b models with dumps and they all had multi layered floors that can make allot of different and all had a few tons of dirt, rock, or trash in them.
  4. Back in the day I remember seeing R models coming down the road with the driver side front bumper torqued obviously higher than the right side even when stoped not under power, old men would tell you that indicated that the driver had the fuel turn up on those engines. There where also stories of 237 macks running with 350 cummins. One tanker company "Branch Transfer" was noted as having the fastest trucks on the road with 237s and 300s later, when their trucks made it to the mack dealership, I remember the exhaust manifolds being white. I also remember drivers using a "Stingers" for the fuel pumps. Also a trucking company "FW Groves" had F models with V8s and all truckers knew they wouldn't stand a chance against one of those souped up V8s. they hired a talented mack trained V8 mechanic just to keep them on the road. Great days
  5. Thanks maddog. Was it lugging or too hot operation is that what was killing the 711s?
  6. Nothing wrong but my dad had a manager that use to own a mack dealership in GA He came home from a Carribean cruise in the 60s to find 75 b61s with 711s that customers had return because of head gaskets . He later lost his dealer and everything he owned but a new yorker car . I know 673 aren't 711 but did they have any problems?
  7. thanks I've heard its a tight fit. Have you ever checked the fuel milage? and what transmission did you use?
  8. When i was younger I use to see the Edge comb steel R model Macks around Greensboro NC. They seemed to be a dark blue wondered if anyone knows the color code. They always looked Great.
  9. I have a 1965 B613 with tandem 4.17 axles. I'am installing a 28' jer-dan rollback, I plan on taking it to shows up and down the east cost while hauling antique tractors or small dozers. it has a 673 turbo with a triplex. with this extensive restoration I'm considering if I should repower. I have a 237 maxidyne with 5 speed and also a few dt466s. with fuel prices being so high I'm wondering witch might be the right choice. any thoughts would be appreciated.
