Alot of the old school guys(me included)don't like the front brakes because they way they handle in slick conditions. They used to put front brake limiting valves on trucks,a flipper switch on the dash in most cases,so you could control them.
I didn't know that, thanks!

Wow, don't think I've ever seen that truck. Must have been hiding up north all the time.
I think it has been parked for some time. My buddy talked to the guy, he says the cab is newer and the truck has a 6 speed. The motor is a ETCZB1005A. A breakdown of mack v-8's was posted in another thread, it doesn't seem like there are many of those motors made. On a different note, nice catch of the groot truck, that is hard to do while driving! I used to live about a mile from where you took that.

that is nice shape,it is very possible not to have front brakes depending on the date it was built,as I recall, anything built after Jan.1,1980 had to have front brakes, anything prior was optional on a 3 axle tractor.
I didn't know that. Was there a reason guys didn't order them with brakes? A weight saving thing?

I really want the trailer. A buddy is interested in the truck. Little to old and long for me...

I like the lights under the headlight. Where did you get those from?? And you can't go wrong with shiny red paint, that truck looks good!

And I noticed this truck about a year ago. Apparently the owned passed away. The guy that owns the storage yard has acquired the truck. He is looking to sell it. He wants $15,000. I didn't talk to him, a friend of mine did. He said it is an '80, v-8 with camelback. I took these pics on Saturday, and didn't want to get to close without permission. It looked like a solid mount cab. No idea of trans or rears, the guy doesn't know much about the truck. He said it isn't equipped with front brakes. Is that possible?? Anybody know anything about this truck?

I went by Northern Illinios mack today, and I the superliner I asked about earlier was parked out back. If I am not mistaken, this is the ex-Doetsch truck that was the sister to the Alan Smith truck that burned up. There was also a nice looking service truck, I have always really liked r model service truck. The Tanzillo pictures are cool, I hadn't seen the Pete since he got it. It really turned out nicely.

The Pete is a really sharp truck. I always heard P.J.s RD referred to as the "Million Dollar R Model" because of how much work he put into it. None of the old guys could believe he put so much into that truck. I have always thought his stuff was really nice. I used to work around the corner from Tanzillos yard at Doetsch, so I used to see all their stuff around a lot.

That truck had a 300L with a 6 speed. It was a 62mph truck untill the pump was tweaked. Last time I drove it it was turning 2200rpm and was good for about 73mph.....75 if you pushed real hard on the floor boards.
Was that one of Pats old trucks? Or did P.J. pick it up somewhere else?

This is the truck my Dad started out with when he went out on his own in 1986. 1979 Mack F-model: 300hp, 5 sp., Camelback. -Brad
I just looked through your photo bucket. You have some really sharp trucks. I have seen some of them around, but never realized how big your fleet is. Nice stuff.

The black tank look really sharp!

They keep the 359 really clean. I have a picture of it from when I moved their 350, but I will have to post that in the "Brand X" thread! Rossi still has quite a few older macks, don't they?

I learned to drive a truck in the Alan Smith truck. Doetsch traded two superliners in for an ex Sanken CL. Northern illinios mack kept the other tractor to pull an equipment trailer for awhile.
-
The tractor Northern Illinios Towing had was the sister truck to the Alan Smith superliner in the "superliner" thread. I was wondering what happened to that truck. Do they still have a superliner wrecker? That thing pulled out an old d-8 I had planted. I always thought that thing was cool!

Magnum has or had a yard on 35th st. not too far west of Sox Park. I think they run all mack.

That's right, thanks for jogging my memory. I have seen that Scania a couple times down Archer Ave, gotta be the only one in northern IL.
Petersen Excavating in Gurnee has a Scania roll off truck. Cabover, I think it might be 300 horse with a nine speed. i will see if I can get a picture of it.

Any idea where the Tanzillo r model with the aluminum tanks and wheels ended up? That is a sharp looking truck.
