Don't know Roger but maybe worth a call on old and new parts

If I remember correct,,,, They use to sell the odd spec Mack test trucks 20 some years ago

This is not the first Mack (for sale) ad listing the engine as a volvo engine :(

  2. I've seen seveal of them, especially on the rear of minivans. Kinda funny to. Although these devices are employed, there are still a large instance of people backing into things!

I do agree they are a useful tool but should not replace common sense and prudent judgement.

    Rob

    MORNING ROB,

True and very true,,,,, but in today's world of 80mph traffic at 6 feet apart (not that I agree with this style of driving or endorse it) its nice to keep eyes

on the horizon for a brake check and the camera see what car is trying too take that 6 feet in

front of you (IT IS A VERY IGNORENT WORLD)

  3. I really dont like the looks of any hood/fender mirrors BUT I wouldn't drive a truck with a trailer without them. They are a must have for the long trailers you guy's pull. I do see them on dump trucks but I think you could get by without them. Maybe one day they will perfect a camera system with heads up display. We have a new GU813 just delivered (Rebublic Waste) with a roll off body that has cameras looking down both sides of the truck but you still have to look at that small display screen to see anything.

I have been using 2 Backup cameras,,,,,for blind spots in right front and side,,,,,, 7" LCD screen

mounted in the sun visor,,,,,best little investment for heavy rush hour traffic

  4. I am working on a project. I recently removed a cab that was layed over and removed it from its chassis. I put a new cab on the same chassis. It is a 1996 CH 613 with a E-400 Manual fuel pump. Now this cab was a test cab and I finally got the girl running. I took the V-Mac computer out of the old cab and put it in the new cab, and also changed the computer harness outside of the firewall. The electronic malfunction light is on and stays on and the truck runs fine. Wierd thing is that it wasn't on with the old cab. So I got the fan on all the time and every wire is connected. So feel free to help out.

What year is the new or used cab,, you put on?(is the cab new from Mack or new to you)

found dash panel wired different, when Mack went to E-tech

Since you are working in the cab,, check to see if the jumper wire didn't come out of the plug for the fan override switch in the center dash,,,,it will be marked fan override

  5. The previous owner has ALL the paperwork, and I mean all... heck he even has the original wiring diagram, from MACK, laminated.

I am definitely a custom / unique truck junky... I have to have what others don't, and this seems to fit the bill. I love the old A model KWs too, but they demand a premium that a part-time guy like me can't afford.

Can you folks venture an opinion on fuel mileage if driven responsibly? I am getting 5.8mpg w/ my COE if I stay at 62mph. We haul dry van trailers. I idle as little as possible.

I'm also interested in your opinions on engine longevity... can I expect 500K or more out of this rebuild, even with performance enhancing mods?

I am a little concerned about the engine being only 12L (732 cu in.) - especially in comparison to my 855cu in Cummins, or the CAT3406, and I am very interested in opinions in this realm as well.

My friend who has an excavating business swears by Mack, and says this 350hp will absolutely outrun my "fueled" 855Cummins. He is also telling me that Mack rates their horsepower at the rear wheel, not the flywheel. Is this accurate as well?

Any reference materials / websites / books that would be beneficial please point me in that direction.

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,

    TOM

Just keep in mind you are trying to compare a big block with a small block engine,,Cubic inches

will win in the long run,,, Especially if you crank fuel to the 350 Mack to run or out run the 400+ cummins or Cat.

    Old Mack wise tail

You have 350 hp at the flywheel with your short wheelbase you can expect 280 something to the ground and little less as your wheelbase lengthens.

The truck looks like it comes from a good home and going to a good home.

Said this before; the Superliner will forever hold its value,,,,If you care for it,, In 20 year from now that RW will sell for $20,000 if not more,,,,, Its Macks trophy truck for 16 years

  6. Update as of 4/15/10, the maroon Titan is set to be a dump truck. It's currently at the body company with the hoist cylinder attached, and is waiting for its box to arrive. I can't wait to see it when its complete.

Its around the corner here in Shavertown PA,, It has a old style rib post(painted grey) Bibeau like my blue one.

    Will try to get pic.

OH,AND BEFORE YOU ASK,,,,,,,NO I DIDNT BUY IT

  7. I believe that is a Goodyear Racing Tire MH. I saw one the other day still lettered.

    Thanks Doug,

That is the reason why I felt Ive seen it somewhere,, must have been in a magazine or something.

Then I remember,,,after I posted,,, A stripe package on the (I think) 1990 MH and RW was White with blue stripes and one red pin stripe but cant find pictures.

  8. Looks like a nice restoration not priced out of line for what it is. I like how the seller states that it will run 80mph but not comfortably. I also like the auxilary panel placed forward of the shifters in the usually wasted space of a small cab. I may have to plagiarize that for my own use.

    Rob

Are you going for the licence plate lite and the toggle switches with the James Bond anti bump protectors (don't know what they call them) or just the console idea :D

O.K,,,I have no problem with this truck taking them ten years to complete and literally removing

every nut and bolt on the truck,,,,,,,,,,,But in ten years, they could have called Barry once to

get the Correct gauges, switches and flaps...

  10. Will someone please get this kscarbel a chair and a cold beer^^^^

I follow what you are preaching (even tho you are preaching to the choir)

All we can do is remember what it was ,,,,,,and hope for new owners, but the damage is done.

My Dad has had Macks for years.

My first paying job was washing Macks at the dealer.

Turned 18 bought Mack Trucks and Mack had my back for years (now they are all gone).

I know nothing but Mack but volvo is destroying,,,, MANY,,,,,, Loyal customers and employees.

Kscarbal Did you work for Mack???

  11. IMHO the damage to Mack was already done by Renault and the chances of there ever being another true American built truck are likely gone forever. The sad truth in all of this is America has been sold down the river by the very people we elected to represent our interests . Our government has never been very fond of the Trucking Industry or the independant minded people that engaged in it and they have lost all sight of the spirit and ideals that brought this country the success it has gained in its short existence . Is Volvo good for Mack? Volvo is not good for anything. The euro truck makers were chomping at the bit to get into the American truck market for years , and now they are here , in force , and they are not going away. They are here for the money and that is the only reason. To push their ugly generic Power Units on us and take our cash back to their banks in Europe while we have to tow their to engineering marvels to their service facilities to have them fixed. Hopefully the Wrecker Co we call has an old Mack to send out or we'll have to call a wrecker for the wrecker . Ahh we can breath easy , he just pulled up in a 1970s R model with a chain drive Holmes 800 twin boom . I guess that 60 ton rotator Sterling with the Mercedes engine must be in the shop again, at least we can be sure this euro swoop nose VGT common fail injected junk will get to the shop. Gotta remember to write the tag # down so I can pick it out parked with all the other euro clones in the parking lot if they ever get it fixed. Well gotta go get the ol' 2 stick2 stack Mack outa the barn out back . Lookee there she didn't even turn a full round and fired right up! Nothin like the sound of that 500 V8 comin out those 8" straight stacks, don't need a radio in this old truck , whats that? ,say you like your music loud? Just flip that switch that says DYNA on it and let off the throttel ! That loud enough for ya? Yeup I thought so. I think I understand how this emissions reduction stuff works now. Dang thing makes less emissions cuz it only runs half the time. Its all makin sense to me now . Takes two trucks to haul a load too. Yeup I see why they sell so many trucks too. Somebody needs to tell them euro fellas the 'Granite' is supposed to go in the wagon . This ol' Superliner got every bit of room in the cab as a CH . Say you want flash codes? You just hit that long switch lever on top there on the left , that'll flash the 'thank ya ' code fer lettin me know i'm clear to come back over , and the ABS is built into this right leg of mine . Sure theres electronic stuff in these old trucks, one of them electronic flashers in the corner socket behind that panel over there that looks like a glove box. Naw, I keep my gloves over here by the door, so i dont need no glove box anyway. Whats that other stick for? That is an ipick. That's where I pick what gear I want , Ain't no Ranger on this road . Check engine light?! What I need that for? I know I got an engine , don't need a light to know that! Sure its got cruise control, just turn that knob a couple turns , that button in the end of it turns it off too. Well I gotta go but if you ever get that lectronic autoshiftin power unit to run long enough maybe we'll run into each other again ,if not i'll be comin thru in about a week , I'll stop in and see ya .

Renault was a good partner that worked......TOGETHER WITH.... Mack.

If it wasnt for them,,,,, Mack would still be running a E6 2-valve 350.

The 4-valve head, the E7 and the E9 (that you love) are all here with major help from Renault.

  12. Ok guys number on right frame rail IM2V230Y3FM001471 door tag build date 2/13/86 there is another# on the left bottom box on door tag 3-2-7 frame# and door# are the same. thanks for any help Ernie D.S.

The date on the door tag is most likely when the truck was put in service,,usually punch stamped by the dealer with the date

  13. usmcjimbo said: The yellow dump trucks belonged to Kearney Development in Tampa, FL. At one time ran over 100 dumps of their own. Filed CH11 last year.

And probably never seen an oil change,,,,,I just feel bad for the future owners

You really have to do your homework when buying anything today

  14. Nothing special but someone will ask,,,,,,, Did Mack put a cummins in a Granite
