  1. I know this may be a dumb question to the old timers, but what is the proper rpm for upshifting a 1981 R 611 ST with a 250 horsepower engine and 6 speed tranny with an extra low deep reduction gear ? Thanks !
  2. Yeah, you guys are right. 7 inch would definitely look kind of goofy and be too loud. Sticking to a 5 inch would probably be best. Thanks for the tips !
  3. Hey Jaime, with the 5 to 4 inch adapter, is that "inside or outside diameter" on the adapter ? Do you remember where you got yours?/ Thanks, Mike
  4. Thanks, guys for the good advice as usual. Where did you get that chrome top on your air cleaner, Macks ?
  5. I'd like to replace the stock muffler and exhaust on my 1981 R 600 single axle dump (former state truck) with a 7 inch monster stack. First of all, will this make the truck too loud, and where's a good place to purchase this online ? Raney's Truck Parts has some but they are only reduced to a 5 inch inlet on the bottom and the pipe on my truck is only 4 inch. They don't have any 5 to 4 inch reducers, neither. Any suggestions, guys ?
  6. Okay, thanks, guys. I don't know what the heck the problem is with the Mack dealer (Sheldon Mack) up here is Vermont. I called them on three separate occasions asking questions on parts, and they never have an answer and then never get back to me. If they don't want my business I'll drive to freakin' Albany (NY) to the dealer down there !
  7. Does anyone know if the cabs, mainly the rooflines, are the same on a 1981 and 1994 R model ? Raney Truck Parts has a 7 1/2 visor that will fit a 1994 but they don't know if it will fit a 1981. I contacted the Mack dealer up here and they're useless as they don't know and aren't interested in finding out.
  8. So are you saying that there is no muffler at all from the engine to the stack ? I want to do that to my R 600: just replace the stock muffler and curved stack with a monster stack but don't know if that's legal or not.
  9. I went to a high end auto paint store and they had a book with all the OEM Mack colors in it. They could make it up any way I planned on applying it (spray can, brush on, or air spray). Ii was Auto Paints Plus in Middlebury, Vermont. I could check next time I'm in that area and see if they have that green color. MIke
  10. Thanks, guys. Nice DM 800, by the way, Big Dog. Is that just a straight pipe on your chrome exhaust, or is there a muffler attached somewhere ?
  11. Does anyone know if external 7 inch fiberglass sun visors are available anywhere for a 1981 R model ? I want to paint it to match my truck. Thanks.
  12. I love the Rosenfeld dump truck ! I grew up in Milford, MA, and a friend of my mother's drove for them. He gave me a ride in one just like that when I was a kid and I've been hooked ever since !
  13. Thanks, guys for the tips. But that is not my truck in the weeds. I found that truck on Craigs list and wanted to buy it but the owner never returned any phone calls. Hey, Superdog, are those horns you fished out of the dumpster any good ? Mike
  14. Does anyine know where I can get the rectangular air horns with the "Mack" snow shield for my 1981 R611ST, like the ones on the attached picture ? Thanks !
  15. Did you say it was an "R 300" ? I heard of an R 400, but never a 300. Does it have a smaller engine ?

  17. Does anyone know where to find the chrome "R 600" emblem that goes to the left of the driver's door and the black plastic gauge covers with the Mack emblem on them that fit over an empty gauge hole in the dash ? Thanks !
  18. Ha, that sounds like a good idea ! But I'd have no idea where to get one or how to hook it up. I've only had my first Mack for only a month now am just getting to figure everything out !
  19. Does anyone know where to get the covers that fit over an empty gauge hole ? They're black plastic and have the Macl logo on them. Thanks !
  20. I think it's an all wheel drive model, Truck Nut. A DM600XX, or something like that.
  21. Thanks guys, for all your suggestions. They were a big help.
  22. Hi Truck Nut ! You can find the colored mud flaps on e-bay, and the black and white ones at "Watts truck center" .
